Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center

West Village, Manhattan—As Pride weekend nears, the groundbreaking of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in New York City marked a landmark achievement in American history. The 3,700-square-foot building at 51 Christopher St. sits right next door to the Stonewall Inn, where the current bar is located. It honors the queer people who fought for equality at the Stonewall Uprising back in 1969 when police raided the popular gay club for serving liquor without a license. It became a turning point in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.(Snip)Organizers said the visitor center will offer an immersive experience through in-person and virtual tours, lecture series, exhibitions

Comments:

Plot twist: the place was raided not because it was filled with deviants, but because it was not licensed to sell liquor. A slip of the narrative not often seen. Down-low Barry declared it a national monument to mock the USA, but the joke's on him because most people seem to have no problem with their tax money used this way. Not long ago the virtual tours and exhibitions would have been strictly adults only, but this is America, so young children are encouraged to be exposed to it all.

I worked the late shift in lower Manhattan, the company I worked for would pay for a cab home, so you didn't have to take mass transit at 3am, even in the 80s that was dangerous. Anyway, the cab would go through the Christofer St. neighborhood. It was pretty gross and the street was filled with deviants some barely dressed.

San Antonio—There were 27 patients scheduled to receive abortions Friday at Alamo Women’s Reproductive Services in San Antonio. Some were already waiting outside when the clinic opened at 9 a.m., doing their best to ignore a group of protesters at the parking lot entrance, shouting at them through a loudspeaker. “You don’t have to go in!” the activists pleaded with the women. “They murder babies!” The clinic’s longtime owner, Dr. Alan Braid, was back in his office when his daughter, Andrea Gallegos, the executive administrator, ducked in. “It’s out. The decision’s out,” she said. “Full overturn.” Braid cursed. Then he began to tear up.

Pfizer announced Saturday that tweaking its COVID-19 vaccine to better target the omicron variant is safe and works—just days before regulators debate whether to offer Americans updated booster shots this fall. The vaccines currently used in the U.S. still offer strong protection against severe COVID-19 disease and death—especially if people have gotten a booster dose. But those vaccines target the original coronavirus strain and their effectiveness against any infection dropped markedly when the super-contagious omicron mutant emerged.(Snip)Moderna recently announced similar results from tests of its combination shot, what scientists call a “bivalent” vaccine. Guard soldiers have until Thursday to get the vaccine. According to data obtained by The Associated Press, between 20% to 30% of the Guard soldiers in six states are not vaccinated, and more than 10% in 43 other states still need shots. Guard leaders say states are doing all they can to encourage soldiers to get vaccinated by the time limit.
