A former U.S. Army helicopter pilot admitted to serving as a paid agent of the Chinese government, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Thursday. Shapour Moinian pleaded guilty to making false statements during security background checks and also admitted to accepting payment in exchange for passing aviation secrets obtained from his defense contractor employer to Chinese agents, the DOJ announcement stated. Moinian now faces 15 years in prison and a fine up to $500,000 for his crimes at his August 29 sentencing.(Snip)After serving in the U.S. Army between 1977 and 2000, Moinian worked for the Department of Defense and various defense contractors, according to the DOJ announcement.

Comments:

Our various Patriotic Agencies are far too busy trying to frame our previous president and planning domestic unrest events to bother much with military secrets being sold to their spiritual sister nation.

Everything seems to indicate that he was born here. Don’t go crazy over his name. Armenians flooded into America during the Turkish genocide. This was in the World War I era, so many have been here for over a hundred years. Many settled in the rich, fertile parts of California because they reminded them of home. Generally good people, good citizens..

Re #15 that was just one charge. There’s more: Moinian faces up to five years and a $250,000 fine for the false statements count. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for acting as an agent for the Chinese regime. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 29. Re his military service and retirement work: Moinian served in the U.S. Army from 1977 through 2000. After retiring, he worked for various cleared defense contractors in the United States and the Department of Defense. A “cleared” status indicates that “a contractor is permitted to work on projects that involve classified information,” according to the press release. According to his plea agreement, while Moinian worked as a defense contractor on various aviation projects used by the U.S. military and intelligence agencies, he was first contacted in 2017 by a Chinese national who claimed to be a recruiter for an online employment service. The individual offered Moinian the opportunity to consult for China’s aviation industry.

The United States—long a beacon to reproductive rights activists in Latin America—will now start to resemble those countries without Roe’s guarantee of a right to legally access abortion, say campaigners. For activists in places such as El Salvador, where abortion is entirely banned, and Venezuela, where there exists on the statute an exception to save the life of a woman though in practice is equally criminal, the decades-long success of campaigners in the US was often an inspiration. For women in Argentina, where “Green Wave” activists succeeded in their own landmark victory to secure legal abortion in late 2020, there was support from counterparts in the US
