VP Harris botches Juneteenth history lesson
about ‘400 years of slavery’

Vice President Kamala Harris bungled a history lesson about the Juneteenth holiday Monday, telling kids that black people were enslaved in America for 400 years—overstating the actual time period by more than 150 years. “I think that we all know today is a day to celebrate the principle of freedom,” Harris told a group of about two dozen elementary school-aged children at the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington. “And think about it in terms of the context of history, knowing that black people in America were not free for 400 years of slavery.”(Snip)A White House official acknowledged Harris’ error,

Comments:

They've been slaves a lot longer that that when you include them being captured and held as slaves by fellow Blacks in Mother Africa, well before it occurred to sell them to whoever was collecting them and selling them, with the vast bulk of them going to Brazil and the West Indies. Speaking of which, did Kamala (who is not African American) point out that her father's family owned slaves, and that she is thus a benefactor of human bondage and personally owes reparizzles, if not reparoonium?

Remember, the United States was not a country until 1783, and many other countries were in "the New Land" like the Dutch, Spain, and French. And, the United States banned slave trade between nations in 1800, and banned the African slave trade in 1808. It became illegal to bring slaves into the United States. So, very early-on it became something most determined was not right. Lincoln declared slaves to be free on January 1 1863, and only due to the Civil War and the inability to travel during that time did it take until June 19, 1865 for the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas. It is not the day all slaves became free, just the last remaining outpost, Texas. It was Democrats under President Andrew Johnson who did all they could to return the South to the Union and allow them to handle their own matters. Then, came the 1877 compromise which ushered in the Jim Crow laws.

Gotta lie. The truth isn't good enough for these whiners, want ever more handouts for something that none of them were ever subjected to, or their parents, possibly a few grandparents might have been slaves. The last living slaves died half a century ago if they lived to be 100 and were a slave for a week or two as an infant. Slavery was over 151 years ago. A century and a half ago, and still they whine. Gimme, gimmme, gimme.

Funny how liberals are so against slavery but do NOTHING about global slavery. Slavery still exists and yet I never hear about libs denouncing that. They just hate America. It really has nothing to do with slavery for them. Dems still are the party of Jim Crow and the KKK. They are the racists. Ever wonder why the inner cities, run by dems, never get better? They still believe in keeping the POC on their plantation. They hate Trump but love biden, who literally gave a eulogy for a dem senator KKK member.

The population of the U.S. was 36 million people. Alaska and Hawaii had not become states. Half the states did not have slavery. Plantation owners were largely absentee Europeans. The slaves from Africa were sold by their parents in exchange for metal pots. Parents didn't abort them like the Democrats do now. Slavery was supported and defended by the Democrat Party. The Republican Party argued to end it. Lincoln did free them, but they would have been freed anyway, as technology developed more efficient ways to harvest the cotton and cane, and they were no longer required. Very few of the current population have been descended from slaves. Those that were have received many benefits of living in the U.S. to more than compensate them. Their cars, tvs, phones, homes, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ipads, internet ---all invented by white people. Every thread on your backs has been made in Asia, or the shoes on your feet. Is there any gratitude? Any thank yous?

Hey Kammie, the slave trade in the world has existed for thousands of years and is still in existance in places in the current world, including the Mexican cartels with the current human migration. Slavery was employed by indigineous Americans. Slavery as an institution in European America existed from 1607 to 1863 when Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation. Officially slavery was dissolved with the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution in December 6th 1865. That isn't 400 years Heels Up. She must have learned her history in Canada, not in the US. What a complete dumb Stored High In Transit human being.

FMA: "“I would argue it is our God-given right to have freedom. It is your birthright to have freedom. And then during slavery, freedom was taken. And so we’re not going to celebrate being given back what God gave us anyway, right?”" Who took their freedom away in the first place and then onsold them into slavery? Who ultimately gave them out of their slavery and gave them their freedom back after the expenditure of a great deal of lives, blood, and treasure to secure it for them. Which political party in the United States viciously strove violently and through legal warfare until the mid 1960's to prevent them from exercising their freedoms in an attempt to turn the clock back and keep them within their plantation?

The English were the slavers. The Colonies became the dumping ground for British "undesirables" from the streets of London, mostly orphaned children and debtors, but also sailors/passengers from other countries' ships, and to rid Northern Ireland of Catholics. An Irish Catholic was worth LESS than an African slave in the Colonies. Irish could be worked to death (literally) with NO repercussions, because they were free of charge, with more on the way, and as disposable as trash. The African slaves came at a price, so they did NOT work them to death. When the Colonies won our freedom, England began using the land of "New Holland" as their dumping ground. We know it today as, "Australia." The true history of slavery has never been taught in American schools. That needs to be done, before it's too late.

Jerusalem—Israel’s outgoing coalition government will fast-track a bill this week to dissolve parliament, setting up the country for its fifth elections in three years, a Cabinet minister said Tuesday. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Monday that he would disband his alliance of eight ideologically diverse parties, a year after taking office, and send the country to the polls. A series of defections from his Yamina party had stripped the coalition of its majority in Israel’s parliament, known as the Knesset. Bennett cited the coalition’s failure earlier this month to extend a law that grants West Bank settlers special legal status as a main impetus for new elections.

At some point President Biden’s delay in building any significant new sections of border wall will cross the line into being an illegal obstruction, congressional Republicans warned in a letter Tuesday to the White House demanding answers about the stall. Mr. Biden halted construction more than 500 days ago, making good on his campaign vow that “not another foot” would be built on his watch. But his administration insists he hasn’t actually blocked the money Congress approved but is instead figuring out how it should be spent. That explanation no longer holds water, said Republicans on the House Budget Committee, led by Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri.
