New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell pulled the drapes off an art display of an oversized black fist afro comb on Friday in celebration of Juneteenth — the holiday commemorating the ending of U.S. slavery.
Cantrell, who tweeted a series of photos of the display, called the artwork “breathtaking.”
“This sculpture is very fitting for this time & place as we celebrate the freedoms that we have gained,” Cantrell said on Twitter. “We know that it doesn’t come without struggles, fights, and protests for 200+ years.”

I read 'LaToya' and that saved me from having to read past the first sentence.

I remember when a lot of black kids would walk around with the hair picks still in their hair. I thought it odd but my black women friends tell me that taking care of their hair is pretty difficult since it tends to be dry and fragile. Anyway, this piece of art is silly as can be but let's face it, most modern art is.

Curious that LaToya fails to mention things like, "hard work," "strong families," "intelligent life choices," "patriotism," and "honesty" among the things black people should be celebrating. Instead, she elevates a giant fist-handled Afro pick as representational of the apogee of black American culture. At least she is being truthful, another quality of black American culture that is generally absent, so that's something to note before passing on. I would have spent more time commenting, but I was late for work. Wouldn't want to get docked for being late because I am a white American man, and that's part of my culture.

White folks heritage was based on Judeo-Christian values and the Magna Carta. Black folks heritage is represented by an Afro hair pick? Explains a lot. 9mm Glock and a knife may have been a better choice.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. While the Blacl community can certainly relate to a pick, can't some say it is a racist symbol of oppression? Blacks forced to pick out their hair to be accepted as clean the White oppressor? Black forced to meet western standards of beauty?

So public racist art about killing white people is breathtaking.
So tired of this garbage.

If nappy makes them happy, I'm OK with it.
Back during my UISAF days, we all had short hair, black or white.
It took me about one minute to 'fix' my hair for the day, but black barracks mates spent about half an hour to do theirs.
I never understood that.

Many black women straighten their hair or wear wigs. No one is is singled out for it. If a white woman wears cornrows and large hoop earrings it called cultural appropriation, and blacks throw a fit. It's a very busy one way street.

None of which had ANYTHING to do with the slaves gaining freedom. It was WHITE MEN who fought and died to bring about the end of slavery.
Afro-Picks were a "thing" from the 70's and impractical. They're certainly not a symbol of the end of slavery. Besides, real Africans cut their hair extremely short.

To think they removed a confederate statue to replace it with this 'work of art'. Stay away from New Orleans it's a gutter.

I think the more appropriate word than “breath-taking” for this hair-pick icon of Black oppression would be “wind-breaking.”

Black culture is crap culture. Why? Because blacks reject everything white (except Benjamins) and choose the opposite: Classic music of great composers, our legal foundation, our Judeo-Christian heritage, our family values (black illegitimacy rate is now unavailable in my search engines), and our respect for lawful authority.
They do love that straight hair, though.

A bit premature; blacks are still slaves to their own delusions and will take another generation or ten to break those chains. Why should they when they are now given everything they want or need to get through life by somebody else?

Give LaToya a break.
She's still a bit confused and bewildered at having Juneteenth and Father's Day happen in the black community on the same day.

NOLA is in the process of devolving into a third world Hadeshole of crime and inept goobernment. We got thugs, both man and female, dragging white women through the streets until they literally ripe the woman's are off. But that wasn't a hate crime. We have enough money to tear down 'offensive' statues while wasting money putting up 'offensive' statues. All in the name of racism. Some racism is more equal that others.

As one commentator noted on Tucker. An afro comb is a stupid way to celebrate the end of slavery. Seems Jan. 1st might be a more appropriate day to celebrate the end of slavery since Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation in late 1862 after the battle of Antietam to take effect on Jan. 1st, 1863. But that of course, would mean teaching and learning the history of the Civil War and that would take too much time away from CRT and this George Floyd day.

A poster on another site said when he was in school, the black kids used these things with the metal tines (?) as weapons against the white kids. That ought to bring out a lot of love if you were on the receiving end of one of these things. /s

So the Muriel Bowser of New Orleans shows us what an idiot and racist she really is. It's nothing new coming from one our expertly democrat run cities. Remember folks this is the same city who had Ray "School Bus" Nagin as it's mayor.

We poor stupid white people only have Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, Leonardo's Mona Lisa, Rembrandt's 'The Night Watch", Caravaggio, George De La tour, Winslow Homer, etc only to be outdone by a giant black "Afro" comb. I am so ashamed.
