Rape victim ordered to pay child support
to alleged attacker

A Louisiana judge gave an accused rapist custody of the child conceived from the 2005 attack and eventually ordered his underage victim to pay child support, a report said. Crysta Abelseth told WBRZ that she was raped at 16 years old when a man nearly twice her age promised to give her a ride home from a local restaurant after a night out with friends. “Instead of bringing me home, he brought me to his house,” Abelseth said about John Barnes, who was 30 at the time. “Once inside, he raped me on his living room couch.”

Something just doesn't add up with this story. Heard it being discussed on the radio earlier. My bet is there's more to the story; we'll see.

Could be more misleading. The “victim” was unable to get any law enforcement to believe her tale. The father was cleared of any wrongdoing. The “victim” is a woman who lost custodial custody of her child, which is darn near impossible in the USA family courts unless she is a frequent grippy sock wearer or a drug addict.

Given enough adverse publicity, I hope the good ‘ole boys in the Louisiana justice system (the rapist has political connections) be forced to turn this shameful travesty around and force the b•stard to pay back all restitutions to his victim and her now teen-aged daughter.

The crime here is rape, not being a bad mom, etc. She was 16. He was 30. All else is irrelevant. It was statutory RAPE as the age of consent in LA is 17. He is a felon. The living daughter is proof of that. Open and shut. But the good ole boy network in the South is at it again. This story sounds like it came out in the 50's or 60's for goodness sake. I do not know if she is a good mother (and in terms of the crime here, that is irrelevant to anyone with a brain) but I do know her biological father is a violent FELON!

If he picked her up in a bar she had a fake ID saying she was 21. He took her home. She says rape, he doesn't. Police don't pursue charges. He's well connected or she's not credible. Here's the most interesting part to me, though. The child is a teenager and is living with him. Teens have a voice. Presumably the judge listened. There's much more to this story than we're reading here. Don't rush to judgment.

Bizarre story as printed. I don't know what the law says about stat rape. If she's underage but presents herself as older (has fake ID to get drunk in that bar) then is that a valid defense? I have no idea. The cell phone thing and him getting child support are super weird. But like most of these stories there won't be any follow up from the press.

Great headline. Not so great in investigating the charge by the newspaper. I'm not in the "She must be believed" camp. Without proof beyond the charge, I'm not buying the charge.

She was at a restaurant with friends, not at a bar using a fake i.d. She was 16, he was 30, there's no she said/he said, it's rape. He's a well connected rapist who should be in jail and the judge in this case should be unemployed.

For what it's worth, the child in this case is now 17 and at the age of consent in Louisiana.

When was she ordered by the courts to pay child support? Not at age 16. She was underage. According to the article, charges were filed in 2015 when statute of limitations was about to run out. She never filed charges sooner because he had connections. When did she turn the child over to the man? The attack took place in 2005 when she was 16 and he was 30. Today they are 33 and 47. When was this ruling? It had to be after 2015. Strange case.

So this woman got blind drunk at a bar when she was under 16 breaking every law about underage drinking and is now claiming she was raped? Is there not a legal issue of "clean hands" when you accuse someone of such a nefarious crime. If she were able to convince the barmen that she was old enough to drink and keep drinking to the point of getting drunk, did she also convince her "rapist" she was "of age" for "consensual" sex? Why would a court grant custody to the rapist father if she declared had declared all the circumstances of he daughter's procreation when it is well know that family courts nearly always defer to the mother in child custody matters.

Though she’s made multiple appearances on our weekly tribute as an honorable mention, there had always been someone else whose knuckleheadedness had exceeded that of ‘The View’ co-host. This week, however, we simply could not ignore Behar’s idiocy as she appeared to be hellbent on taking the KOTW top spot. Therefore, congratulations Joy! You’ve done it… how proud you must be. It wasn’t that long ago when the left’s narrative on ‘gay rights’ was simple, straightforward, and easy to support: Let’s all be tolerant of one another, live and let live, and don’t discriminate. Tolerance is, after all, one of the fundamental tenets of the philosophy which drove America’s founding. But as the saying goes, “give someone an inch and they’ll take a mile,” which is the situation in which we find ourselves today. The message of ‘tolerance’ eventually morphed into ‘acceptance.’ At some point late in the Obama Administration, our culture decided that it was inadequate to merely tolerate the shenanigans of the LGBTQ community, we needed to welcome them.

One of the more irritating aspects of modern life in America is the utter inescapability from major pop culture news. Whether or not we’re interested in the latest shenanigans from Hollywood, we’re going to get pummeled with details anyway. With the recently concluded Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial, for instance, the only way to avoid such bombardment would have been to take up a lifestyle similar to that of Ted Kaczynski. Now that the trial is over, we can mercifully move on with our lives. However, we would be remiss if we didn’t take at least a moment to recognize the complete stupidity that

The contrast in the levels of taxation between Red states and Blue states is well documented. Folks in Democrat-run states like Massachusetts and New York pay exorbitantly high taxes, apparently for the privilege of living in a state that disregards basic freedoms. Whereas those in Republican-run states such as Indiana and Florida typically pay far less in taxes. But when it comes to citing the most extreme example of high tax rates – whether we’re talking about sales tax, gas tax, income tax, or property tax – California is almost always at the top of the list. After tragedies like the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, we learn a lot about our political figures. In the aftermath of 9/11, we saw the epitome of leadership with then-Mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani, earning him the unofficial title of “America’s Mayor” and the recognition of leftwing Time magazine’s “Person of the Year.” When Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi’s henchman blew up Pan Am flight 103 in 1988, killing scores of innocent Americans, President Ronald Reagan didn’t just retaliate, he bombed Gadhafi’s house, and Gadhafi went into hiding for decades. Those are examples of true leadership following a tragedy. And then, we have clowns like Beto O’Rourke.

Chicago is a mess, and the staff at The Blue State Conservative has been documenting the city’s descent into complete lawlessness for months now. Violent crime is out of control in the Windy City under Mayor Lori Lightfoot, with almost 800 murders last year, record-breaking violence in its most problematic neighborhoods, and more murders than any other city in the country despite only being the third-largest. Chicago has been run exclusively by Democrats for over 90 years, and Illinois, the state in which Chicago lies, is run by a Democratic governor and legislature. Republicans in Congress have called for more domestic production to increase the supply of oil in order to reduce the cost.
