As Johnny Depp’s highly publicized defamation trial against Amber Heard continues to play out in court, his film, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” has seen a surge of views — propelling the film into Netflix’s Top 10. The 2005 flick — directed by Tim Burton — found itself sitting at No. 8 of the streaming giant’s Top 10 as of Tuesday, Entertainment Weekly reported. Based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 book of the same name, Depp stars as the eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka, who allows five children to tour his factory.

Comments:

Nowhere near as good as Gene Wilder.

I have only seen the original with Gene Wilder. I never was much of a fan of Depp, and Wilder's version did a fine job, no need to see the "Deppy" version, IMO.

I doubt it has much to do with the Depp/Heard clown show, and everything to do with Netflix's pathetic offerings lately. I'm only hanging on until the third season of "Derry Girls," and then I'm giving Netflix the heave ho.

Depp did a good job, but his Wonka was, as #3 said, creepy and disturbing. Not Depp's fault, that's what the director wanted. They were going for a darker version of the story.

When it comes to innovation from a global perspective, the ideas and products from America’s Silicon Valley are second to none. And when we consider which of those Big Tech companies has been the boldest, it’s difficult to argue against Apple. From producing the very first home computer known as the Macintosh, to its iPods and iPhones, to the Apple Watch, there is no doubt Apple Inc. has been on the cutting edge of technological development for the better part of four decades. But their latest venture into electric vehicle manufacturing has just hit a major pothole.

Former President Donald Trump didn’t waste any time in making his feelings known regarding the announcement by billionaire Elon Musk that his blockbuster deal to buy Twitter had hit a snag. On Friday morning, Musk tweeted, “Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users.” The news came as a surprise to many, coming less than three weeks after the Twitter board of directors approved the $44 billion deal to have Musk buy out the company. Within hours of Musk’s tweet, Trump weighed in from his own platform Truth Social later on Friday:

The rhetoric from various Democrats last week regarding the leaked draft of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s purported majority opinion regarding the potential landmark case of Dobbs V Jackson was predictable. Democrats called those voting in the majority ‘radicals,’ and they lamented the demise of Roe V Wade. They also claimed that their position on abortion was aligned with most Americans: it’s not. In fact, it’s not even close. But this week, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the Senate Majority Leader – for now – couldn’t help himself, as he insisted on enshrining that disconnect for the ages.

A pro-choice protester in a “Handmaid’s Tale” getup justified rallying outside Amy Coney Barrett’s home by saying the Supreme Court justice doesn’t understand what it’s like “to carry a pregnancy to term” — even though she’s given birth to five kids biologically. The unidentified protester was one of six in red smocks and white bonnets who marched outside Barrett’s home in Falls Church, West Virginia, on Wednesday, according to video obtained by Fox News Digital. The protester initially argued that Barrett, one of the justices expected to overturn national abortion rights given by Roe v. Wade, was biased by her devout Catholicism

In one of the more memorable lines from the original movie ‘Ghostbusters,’ Bill Murray’s character Dr. Peter Venkman was explaining what was about to happen to New York City due to the ghoulish upheaval they’d stirred up: “Human sacrifice! Donald J. Trump was the best POTUS in my very long lifetime. His policies were effective, making America prosperous, energy independent, and lowering minority unemployment to record low levels. Everything he did, with the possible exception of the COVID lockdown, was quintessentially Trump; competent, encouraging, and salutary for America and her people. We were blessed to have him in the White House. Although many Americans cringed, we nonetheless put up with Trump’s coarseness and his inflated ego because he gave America back to the people.
