The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) announced on Tuesday that it will officially rename the monkeypox to address concerns about the stigma and racism associated with the word. Monkeypox has thus far infected over 1,600 people in more than two dozen countries, first breaking out in the United States this past May in Massachusetts and possibly having originated in Canada. W.H.O. director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Tuesday that the organization will be “working with partners and experts from around the world on changing the name of monkeypox virus, its clades, and the disease it causes.”

Naperville police released a graphic video Tuesday that shows a veteran Naperville police officer fatally shooting a 28-year-old Naperville man who came at him with a hatchet on June 3.
Police said the officer was conducting a traffic stop around 11 a.m. on June 3 near the intersection of Bond Street and McDowell Road when another vehicle pulled up and a man armed with a hatchet got out and charged the officer.
The officer, who is a 22-year veteran with the department, fired six shots, striking 28-year-old Edward C. Samaan, police said.

In her June 18/19 column at the Wall Street Journal, Ms. Noonan takes Hillary Clinton's "deplorables" slap at Trump voters and goes one — nay, two better. She refers to voters who question the results of the 2020 presidential election as "kooks, crooks, and freaks" and then smears the citizens who went to Washington, D.C. January 6, 2021 as "[t]hose poor stupid people."
What is the basis for this criticism, which, arguably, is less ad hominem and, more accurately, descriptive of her mindset?

Near the end of an especially tumultuous week in his tumultuous presidency, Joe Biden gave his first media interview in four months to someone who wasn’t a late-night comedian. For a public hungering for answers, it wasn’t worth the wait.
The president chose The Associated Press and the sit-down lasted a little less than 30 minutes, but that was more than enough time for him to demonstrate again he’s got no new ideas or even a new way of packaging old ideas.
Biden acknowledges America is in a funk, but shows no sense of compassion or determination to turn the tide.
Multiple people including a police officer were shot at a social justice-inspired musical festival in Washington DC. The officer was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition, police confirmed. The conditions of the other victims remain unknown at this time.
