Senate Gun Deal Looks OK [Updated]

Original Article

A bipartisan group of senators have announced an agreement on gun legislation. I am not sure whether their deal has been reduced to legislative language, and I don’t know whether it will get through the Senate, or whether Democrats in the House will vote for it. (If I were a Democrat, I would think that the deal is extremely weak, and its main effect may be to take gun control off the table in November.) As summarized by the senators’ press release (link above), the deal sounds pretty good to me. There is no foolishness about “assault weapons.” It includes a focus on mental health, recognizing

Sadly, you know that fascist lie-berals will take an inch now -- knowing they will not rest until they have everything they truly want!!!! But they have to get that first inch first. Honestly, it sounds like Republicans may have gotten more than the Demon-Rats than this. But what concerns me are the "red flag" laws being federalized. That screams of abuse by the same Demon-Rats and RINO's that are on the January 6th committee and who allowed Ashley Babbett's killer to go scott-free!!!!!

Red flag law. Oh goody. It's great to think someone could make an accusation against you without your knowledge and have the police show up at your residence and take your stuff without a warrant or a conviction. You'll only get to spend several thousand dollars to hire a lawyer to prove your innocence (since you're already considered guilty) and get your property back. And that's assuming the judge 'thinks' you're not a whacko at his / her discretion.

Red Flag Law??? Does that mean that every single person who marched with Red Flags and Red Banners while rioting all across the country since 1968 will get banned from firearms for Life? No? Then stuff it.

If the communists are for it, good Americans are against it. There is no acceptable gun control because it is another foot in the door. They are addicted to taking away freedom. It will never be enough.

Every gun owner will be at the mercy of anyone and everyone he/she might have offended over the years. Red flag laws are revenge therapy for the offended. And courts aren't going to let juvenile records be opened for this.

"Mental Health" is the next black hole of social spending. We already have armies of social workers and psychology graduates in society. As the eye doctor asks, is it better or worse?

There is no “bill” yet. It’s an “agreement” on a “framework”. It’s time to flood your representatives’ offices with telephone calls and e-mails telling them this is unconstitutional and unworkable. Not that they care about little obstacles like that.... but they want above all else to be re-elected.

Red Flags laws can be used on anyone who follows or comments on any conservative site, including this one. Like something on Facebook, Twitter, etc., expect the anti-gun Gestapo to kick in the door. Unless you are a POC ganbanger, different rules apply.

Reading over the bill it is almost entirely a bunch of bland nothings which will accomplish nothing at all. Frankly, with all the immense pressure, this may be a master stroke....a nothing bill that, at very most, tosses around some words about mental health and such and accomplishes nothing.....ESPECIALLY not actually taking away anyone's 2nd Amendment right. So, perhaps this is a good example of "DOING SOMETHING"....while actually doing nothing, while so many in the Enemedia are screaming at the top of their lungs to "DO SOMETHING!!!!". Maybe this is the pressure reliever that will not cause any real harm. Unlikely to do any real good, too, but if it does something real on mental health issues, that isn't bad. From what I have read this is FAR, FAR away from Nutty, Nasty Nancy's crazed antigun bill from the House. Now.....will any of her normal capacity magazine ban and other REAL infringements find their way into the final bill "in committee"? THERE is the real danger. Mark my words - in the Joint Committee, they may take the innocuous Senate bill and the radical House bill and come up with a radical "compromise" bill.

Did the Russians attack a Texas energy plant? 13 replies

On June 8, a potentially disastrous situation was mostly averted at the Freeport liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) plant outside of Houston, Texas. An explosion at the plant took place after a leak in one of the pipes released a cloud of natural gas into the area and it burst into flames. Fortunately, the gas dissipated quickly and the blast didn’t extend past the enclosed area of the compound. Local firefighters had the flames extinguished quickly and there were no injuries reported, but the plant suffered damage that will limit its output for much of the year. Normally, a story like this wouldn’t raise many eyebrows. LNG is notoriously challenging to work

We haven’t even had the 2022 election yet and talk of 2024 is already heating up. Naturally, Donald Trump remains at the top of the conversation on the Republican side, but Ron DeSantis has become nearly as talked about as a probable challenger. The latter has burst onto the scene the last two years as a no-nonsense, fighter of a governor who also has a knack for making the liberal press look ridiculous. Those are skills that GOP voters love, and they’ve earned DeSantis high marks nationally from the Republican base. Yesterday’s Rasmussen survey of likely voters finds that 57% consider Joe Biden’s performance on the economy to be “poor.” That strikes me as a death knell: there is no way a president viewed in such a negative light on the economy can be re-elected. No matter how unappetizing their alternatives–Kamala Harris? Pete Buttigieg?–the Democrats have no choice but to put Biden out to pasture and find someone else for 2024. The voters’ antipathy toward Biden is driven in large part by the fact that 52% say he is mostly responsible for sky-high fuel prices. The majority is right, but the real problem for Democrats is that there isn’t

President Biden urged Congress to suspend the federal gas tax in a speech at the White House on Wednesday. Biden explained that the federal suspension, if enacted, would pause an 18 cent-per-gallon tax on gasoline and 24 cent-per-gallon tax on diesel. While those tax revenues are generally directed toward the Highway Trust Fund for upkeep of American roads, Biden claimed the tax could be suspended without harming the fund. “With the tax revenues up this year, and our deficit down over $1.6 trillion this year alone, we’ll still be able to fix our highways and bring down prices of gas,” said Biden. “We can do both

President Biden on Wednesday will call on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months as Americans contend with record-high gas prices. The gas tax holiday would cost roughly $10 billion, according to a fact sheet released by the White House. However, Biden will ask Congress to enact the suspension without harming the Highway Trust Fund, which receives funds from the tax revenue. The president will suggest Congress use other revenues to make up for the loss, the New York Times reported. “Look, it will have some impact, but it’s not going to have an impact on major road construction and major repairs,” Biden said earlier this week.

CNN averaged only 56,000 viewers between ages 25-54 on June 17. The last time CNN had a smaller turnout among the critical category was July 10, 2000.  Friday was also CNN’s smallest weekday audience among total viewers since June 2014, as the network settled for only 283,000 average viewers. By comparison, Fox News averaged 1.4 million total viewers and 209,000 in the key demo. The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down a Maine education policy that made K-12 schools with religious instruction ineligible for taxpayer-backed tuition aid. The 6-3 decision broke along ideological lines, with the court’s six conservatives ruling that the state’s so-called sectarian exclusion violated constitutional religious protections. Maine law gives school-age children the right to free public education. But because many rural districts lack a public high school, a workaround was devised that allows these students to attend nearby qualifying private schools with public assistance.
