First, let's not forget all the people who insisted that officers on site should not be allowed in public schools. I work in a middle school and my son works in an elementary school (my husband retired from an elementary school). This is on my mind more than you might think. We have four locked doors a person must pass through before they can enter the school. While I realize that is no guarantee of safety I am glad for those barriers. I would like to suggest that the doors be replaced with bullet proof glass or mostly metal (perhaps bars) so that they cannot be shot out. And we do have officers on site. But once again the dems will make this a gun issue. It is a mental health issue, and some people are just evil. But they will turn this into a gun confiscation discussion and believe that everyone who possesses a gun is a threat. Dear, Lord, please, somehow help these people through the hardest time in their life.

ONce again the result of no doubt a bleeding heart liberal who did not get mental health assistance for the shooter there is no doubt in my mind there will be many who let this child down and grew a hateful monster. Shame on those who turn this immediately into a gun problem this will be proven to be a mental health issue.

Going for law abiding citizens' right to self defense and deliberately ignoring root causes and their solutions is exactly what politicians will do. Just watch them make political capital of this horrible tragedy. Meanwhile, our hearts bleed for the families who have lost their little ones who are not coming home tonight. Simply unimaginable.

Democrats will rush to call for gun control and blame everyone but the shooter. The media will wildly speculate and point fingers at the NRA and conservatives blaming everyone but the shooter. In the end, this tragedy is the result of a disturbed 18 year old killing people with a gun. If he didn't have a gun, he would have killed his grandmother with something else then moved on. Maybe the school shooting was unplanned and only happened because he was caught by the police. Nobody will ever know so quit speculating, wait until the smoke clears and more concrete information is available. This is not an episode of CSI or Law and Order. All of the clues and facts will not be found in an hour.

Tonight these innocent children are in the presence and arms of the God. People will ask why did God allow this. Here's my thought: God gave man free will. Our nation (mostly) has turned away from/against God. After that, only the Lord can explain evil. But we do know children are innocent until the age of accountability and they are in heaven tonight. That is a comfort and if their parents know Jesus Christ as their Savior, they will see their children again.

Another 18 year old “nut job” (a person who was mentally ill) popped up and first murdered his grandmother, before ending up in a public grammar school murdering a large number of small children. He then obviously committed suicide by cop. Now because of that the leftist Democrats are already pushing to abolish the 2nd Amendment rights of over three hundred million law abiding Americans. One question, what percentage of Americans murder their grandmothers? Maybe one out of ten million or more!

I know 2 families with children with serious mental disorders. Their lives are hell. The adult children are not capable of living on their own but can not be forced into treatment. Only “ if they harm themselves or someone else.” That is often too late. And even if treatment was given, it would likely be a prescription for a SSRI and sent home. Our mental health care is a disgrace and hurts so many. I am betting that this fellow was deeply troubled and his grandmother was left to deal with him.

#21 and #29 Re: the grandmother There is a high probability that there was no father in this young man's life and the grandmother was left with the kid after the parents abandonded him. The kid was of the age when a mean streak is manifest from fetal alcohol syndrome or when schizophrenia sets in. The grandmother was not going to be a match for a psycho. She was probably too "nice" to call the cops.
