Have you heard? Former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has a new book coming out, and the focus is once again on the bad orange man.
Alright, you probably haven’t heard because who cares, right? These books are all a dime a dozen, they all say the same stuff, and most of the big “scandals” they “reveal” turn out to be nothing. That looks to be the case again with Esper’s tell-all offering, which is being heavily promoted by the media.
One of the major “gotchas” the press is running with is a claim by Esper that Trump once asked about bombing the drug cartels. Wait, am I supposed to be upset

The fake news media keep treating things that Trump ASKED ABOUT as if he actually ordered them. While they treat things that Biden does as if they never happened at all (unless they can claim that Trump did them, that is...)

Apparently, thinking outside the box is frowned on in D.C.

Our militarys number one job is to protect America. They should be on the border doing their jobs

First off.....Esper is almost 100% certain totally lying. But second......
I always thought that bombing the drug cartels was a fairly reasonable response. Sorry, but in my veiw, killing a bunch of Americans with anything, should get a full court press response, gloves off. These are not 'state actors', just criminals, and in a country where little law exists - so, direct action never seemed entirely unreasonable. Have to work through all the various "associated issues" of course, but it shouldn't be rejected entirely out of hand.
Remember the Clancy novel Clear and Present Danger, we used a laser guided glide bomb to destroy the head of a major Columbian drug cartel. It always seemed like a pretty good response, frankly.

Who appointed this loser to be Secretary of Defense? The same lousy judge of character who populated his administration with back-stabbing losers from Day One to the bitter end.

The article states "Honestly, I actually think the former president should have owned the drug cartel thing instead of putting “no comment,” but the rest is hilarious enough."
To the author - Trump may very well be president again. Why would he confirm or deny an action he may still someday order?

Once again to those posters who criticize Trump for some of his hires. Remember that the ones requiring Senate confirmation were usually the ones that really turned out bad because he had to nominate, with McConnell's blessing, RINOs.

oh, Mr. President, Sir, I would like to nominate myself to be your Secretary of Defense in your next Cabinet. Respectfully Submitted,
I know I can do a better job than anyone you've had in that office prior

# 6...Yeah your 20/20 hindsight is a great thing when crap hits the fan. You and I weren't in the fray and have zero knowledge of what goes into the picking process. Finding a perfect fit in the DC sewer is an impossibility. Yet President Trump fought through the mud and came out a winner for America and our future.

The War College in Rhode Island games every possible scenario they can dream up to come as close to the next conflict. While they use intel from real countries they fight the orange team against the blue team as countries since real countries get huffy if you war game them. This is no different than asking what would happen if and is this legal if. No more.

I’ve thought for years that bombing the cartels would be a great idea. As noted, all he did was ask about it. IIRC one of the articles against Nixon was that he THOUGHT about using the IRS against his enemies something the Clintons did routinely.

The bottom line is that the people trust President Trump. It’s not going to cause us to wring our hands if we know that he is questioning possible scenarios to deal with the cartels. In fact, that enhances our support and respect because it proves that he is, at least, willing to take these murderous drug and human trafficking thugs out which should make us all sleep better at night.

When I was in industry this was called "brainstorming" any idea was worth discussing. The original idea may not be the best approach but something useful could result by examining it.

What matters is what was done, not what was considered. Throwing out a lot of possibilities is actually a very good way of making decisions.

I kinda like the idea. Sorry President Trump didn't do it. Probably should get Mexico's permission first though. Bet their President would be happy for the help. And this is from a cautious Christian patriot.
And why not? 100,000 Americans have died from the fentanyl that has come over the border from the Mexican Cartels.
But, hold that thought about the bombing the cartels for when President Trump takes office in 2025. He may do it then.

Under a Democrat president, the USA invaded Mexico to chase a Mexican bandit who had invaded the USA and killed some people on US soil. Remember Pancho Villa? My late grandfather (who I never knew because he passed away before my birth) served in that campaign. I think a Republican asking whether we could bomb crime cartels is not unreasonable after Pres. Wilson set a precedent of pursuing a bandit gang across the border.
