Anthropogenic climate change will be a

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that so many of the most hysterical climate-change/greenies are based in urban regions. A big city represents the heaviest human footprint there is, something that misleads people into believing that man can ride herd on nature. (Snip) Whether it’s earthquakes, floods, droughts, hurricanes, or just inexorable greenery (e.g., kudzu, every jungle), when nature gets a head of steam, we’re tossed about like ants after a careless human foot kicked their anthill. And surely the most stunning and destructive example of nature’s power is a volcano. That’s why volcanic activity in Antarctica is a bit unnerving.

Comments:

As she says, there are no preparations at all for any kind of climate change. There are actually anti-preparations -- making sure we don't have the capacity to either heat or cool, or produce what may be needed.

She makes some good points. We should be thankful for today's climate since it won't always be so favorable. Calamity can strike with little or no warning.

Anyone who knows history is aware that many civilizations have been disrupted or destroyed by Mother Nature's drought and flooding before the industrial age corrupted the environment with plant food. What caused those events thousands of years ago at places such as Ankgor Wat ? I reckon the ancient aliens took their SUVs back to their home planet with them.

I know it is much worse than what America currently faces from the depth of horror brought about by our failed political system, but somehow Pompeii seems pleasant by comparison. The last report written by Pliny the Elder (passed along to his nephew, Pliny the Younger), was his notes on viewing the volcano aftermath as he neared Pompeii. The elderly naturalist and author, so overcome by fumes, died on the shore approaching a nearby town. His body, they say, never properly buried, was lost to the ages, while hundreds of other ash-encrusted bodies have been found and examined in Pompeii.

Interesting article but a slight correction. Mt. Saint Helen's erupted in 1980. It 'woke' up in March and finally erupted on May 18th, 1980.

Lots of huge volcanoes on planet Earth, hundreds of very large ones. And we are NOT in charge in the slightest as far as what they "decide" to do. If the super-volcano under the Yellowstone region ever goes up, it would be a cataclysm, too. I first saw the beautiful symmetry of a large, clearly volcanic cinder cone many years ago when traveling through Washington state, driving down from a long visit to Alaska, in 1979. My wife and I saw it at a distance, commented that it was "clearly a volcanic cinder cone with the perfect symmetry that it showed" and it had beautiful snow on the top 1/3 of the peak - a lovely view. We looked it up on the maps and found it was called Mount Saint Helens. Less than 8 months later - we again heard of Mount St. Helens - when it blew up catastrophically, killing 57 people even though there was a month or two of warning. It blew hot ash at supersonic speeds for, IIRC, 15 miles. And this was a smallish, relatively minor eruption, compared to what has happened in the past. https://acidcow.com/pics/39912-last-pictures-of-robert-landsberg-15-pics.html

Last night, there was a fire at a food processing plant in America. It was the 18th such “accident” to hit our food processing plants and distribution centers in 2022. Eighteen such incidents in only four months is an unprecedented rate. Usually, there are a dozen, or less, in any calendar year. On April 22nd, there was an “explosion” at Shearer's Foods in Hermiston, Oregon. On April 21st, an "unidentified small plane" crashed into the General Mills plant in Covington, Georgia. On April 19th, a mysterious fire destroyed the largest independent food distributor in the United States. On April 19th, a mysterious fire destroyed the largest independent food distributor

 Since about 2018, Chinese officials have been talking about the moon and Mars as sovereign Chinese territory, part of the People's Republic of China. This means that China considers those heavenly bodies to be like the South China Sea. This also means that China will exclude other nations from going to the moon and Mars if they have the capability to do so. We do not have to speculate about that: Chinese officials say this is what they are going to do.  (Snip) They do not want to "compete" within the international system. The deal that Musk has crafted to buy the social media giant is fragile and could unravel as fast as it was put together. One indication is the market — usually a pretty good indicator of what’s going to happen. Twitter shares plummeted after investors began to look more closely at the deal. Musk also has a history of changing his mind. (Snip) There are a lot of moving parts to the Twitter deal and investors aren’t convinced Musk can

For a couple of years toward the end of the last century, David Horowitz contributed a regular column to the online magazine Salon. In 1999 he gathered those columns in a book entitled Hating Whitey and Other Progressive Causes. To return to this book today is to recognize that it could’ve been published yesterday, for the issues it addresses are now even more urgent, and the bizarre ideological tendencies now even more extreme than they were then. When the Soviet communists’ hammer-and-sickle flag was lowered at the Kremlin for the last time on Dec. 25, 1991, some said that the last refuge of Marxism was in the academic institutions of the West. They were right. That totalitarian ideology has infected American colleges and universities and other institutions that are purveying cancel culture, wokeism, censorship, and gender dogma that rejects reality. But students, parents, and others are fighting back. And two colleges—Oberlin College and Shawnee State University—recently got exactly what they deserve: large legal judgments against them for defamatory and discriminatory misbehavior. The CDC just decided to continue the transportation mask mandate for another two weeks. Dr. Bob Wachter, Chair of the Department of Medicine at UCSF, concurs with the CDC decision. This doesn’t prove that masks work. Instead, it proves that the CDC, Wachter, and most mainstream scientists (who claim masks work) are incapable of differentiating solid science from a sloppy study. There have been only two randomized trials to test whether public policy using masks to mitigate the spread of SARS-CoV-2 can reduce the spread. The GOP-E preference, we’ve been told, based on fairly indisputable evidence, is to manage the devolution of America into a Social Democrat utopia—managers of the Revolution. Following the unprecedented leak of a Supreme Court initial majority draft opinion to undo Roe v. Wade huge controversies begin to surface! The document, first obtained by Politico, outlined the potential demise of the landmark 1973 ruling. The revelation sent shockwaves across the nation. Protesters gathered at the fenced-off Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. on Monday night. The leak is likely the product of an ideologically leftist law clerk seeking either to halt a nixing of the abortion ban or to engender support for court-packing, Alan Dershowitz told Fox News.
