ROME—Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Pope Francis has floated the idea that he wants to take a trip to Kyiv to try to broker a ceasefire. But now he says he would prefer to go to Moscow to try to talk some sense into Vladimir Putin, who he has not outwardly condemned in the now nearly 3-month-old war and only did so lightly in a lengthy interview with an Italian newspaper. “I feel that before going to Kyiv I must go to Moscow,” he told Corriere Della Sera in an interview that ran on Tuesday. But the

Pope Pius XII was hesitant to be critical of Hitler, Mussolini, so Pope Marxist I has some precedent. But Pope Pius XII is said to have done background work which sort of canceled out his public statements.

For once, the antipope is not wrong. FTA: "Francis repeated comments he has made in general audiences and in other interviews that the war is nothing more than a giant opportunity for a “trade in arms” and that it is still ongoing because of the constant shuttling of weapons to Ukraine."

There is no rational explanation for even the existence of any pope.
Period.
If you do not believe the Bible then the pope, for you, is irrelevant.
If you DO believe the Bible then the pope, for you, is based upon a gross misunderstanding of a few words that Jesus spoke to Peter, commending him for recognizing that He was the Messiah. It was not PETER that the church was to be built upon (that makes absolutely no theological sense at all) but rather, the TRUTH that Christ is the Messiah. That is a worthy foundation against which the gates of hell will not prevail. No man, pointy hat or not, can pull that off and this current 'pope' makes that abundantly clear. No pope has ever been anything other than a standard issue man who played his cards right politically to attain an office no man was ever meant to fill. The papacy is the Peter principle on steroids.

Given the stupid political and environmental statements made by the current pope, I am disposed to ignoring (if not condemning) most anything he does. However, I take issue with the comment made about Pius XII. As I heard it, after he condemned the Nazis, they wiped out a Catholic village and asked him if he wanted to comment further. While that changed his public face, the reaction to him by Israelites following the war indicates that they knew he had been an invaluable friend. While I was in the seminary, I was told that during the war, one would greet half of the nuns and priests in cassocks one met in the Vatican with 'Peace be with you.' For the other half, it was 'Shalom'. For more: https://www.catholicleague.org/the-truth-about-pope-pius-xii/ (I don't think there'll be similar entries about Frank)

NATO, has not yet started a war.
If I start shooting at my neighbor's annoying dog, I, as a private individual, would be arrested - and rightly so.
Russia's neighbors are reacting to the lawlessness of Putin's regime. His aggression and his willingness to assassinate critics in and outside of Russia. Were I a political leader anywhere bordering Russia, I'd at least consider joining NATO, useless as it is.

#7, right on. For the first time, I agree with the Pope. Ukraine is the battle of Armageddon between individualism/nationalism as represented by Russia and collectivism/globalism as represented by NATO.

I cannot understand why the US wants Ukraine in NATO other than to put nukes on Russia’s border. That seems provocative. I thought saddam hussein’s provocative threats regarding weapons of mass destruction earned him everything he got. But that was then and this is now. Now Russia is threatening nuclear war but that doesn’t matter because roe v wade, leaked opinion, global warming, white supremacy. The dims are in Ukraine promising our unlimited support. Some of them want US troops involved. Hopefully somebody somewhere will do something. The dim party is mad in the worst possible way and the president is a fool turned zombie. They say putin is a madman and that he’s away having surgery or maybe he’s getting the bunker set up. We have fools who have negative competence in charge and the public is Gullible about it all.
Oh well. What’s on Netflix? Megyn and hairy?

I egree with that NATO bears some blame by continuing too poke at a mad animal after backing him into a corner. I have been told for 2 decades that Putin is mad so why is everyone shocked at what he did? Putin let NATO know Ukraine was a red line yet NATO continued to poke the bear. Had any NATO country said they would not accept Ukraine into the alliance this could have been avoided.
Why are there no intense peace negotiations happening instead of arming Ukraine which will result in more death and destruction? Because Ike was right.
Why are Russians acting as intermediaries in negotiations with Iran if they are evil and not to be trusted?
Why is bidet spending more on Ukraine than our disabled vets and our own border defense? I coukd continue ad nauseum.
Because it is globalist goals of a Great Reset and NWO?

The Pope should have remained neutral on the Ukraine-Russia War if he hopes to have any chance to stop the war by way of a visit to Moscow with Putin.

I’m not a fan of Francis, but this time he’s right. We almost had a nuclear war when Russia put missiles in Cuba, 90 miles away when I was a kid. It was our redline. NATO on their doorstep was their red line. They removed their missiles. All NATO had to do was stay out of Ukraine. What a unbelievable diplomatic blunder by the Biden administration and unelected NATO bureaucrats. This will go down in history as the totally unnecessary and totally avoidable war. It all makes me so angry.

I can't agree. Ultimately Putin made the call. But taunting an ill and crazed bear was not wise. There was no upside.
And now, today, where are we? If Russia fails nothing is gained, if Russia prevails nothing is gained.

No Francis, appeasing a thug, bully, and madman is NOT smart policy. NATO has its faults but it is a defensive organization. The countries around Putin has good reason to worry about their safety. The only threat NATO makes to Putin is that he would not be able to invade neighboring countries in NATO without significant consequences.

When the Dutch bishops wrote a letter to be read in all the Churches, condemning Nazism, the Nazis then rounded up every single Jew in the country without exception (including Edith Stein) and sent them all to death. usually there was a way out, not this time. It is easy to tell other people to proclaim your views but sometimes the big mouth you pine for kills people. Actually Pius XII saved very many and it is for this reason the chief rabbi of Rome converted to Catholicism after the war. Not during because he did not want to be a traitor. So the message is: Sometimes you are unknowingly cram full of bigoted lies, this was one of those days. The other message is: Rejoice when you are slandered, fear when yo are praised because that is the way they treated the false prophets.

Just when I thought I couldn't despise him more.
So this explains mass murder, Francis?
You talk as if Russians have no human agency. In effect, you are dehumanizing them. You are reducing them to a mathmatical algorhithim. If "A" happens, then Russians must necessarily do "B". They have no choice but to do "B", as they are nothing more than single-cell protozoa reacting to outside stimulus.
In effect, you have absolved them of the responsibilty of choosing between right and wrong. John Paul II would've known that. You don't.
