The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the city of Boston violated the First Amendment by refusing to fly a local organization’s Christian flag in front of city hall, though it had flown other groups’ flags.
The decision in Shurtleff v. the City of Boston was unanimous, with the Court ruling that Boston should have allowed the Christian group’s flag because the flags did not represent government speech.
“We conclude that Boston’s flag-raising program does not express government speech,” Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the court. “As a result, the city’s refusal to let (the group) fly their flag based on its religious viewpoint violated

Despite the lack of any definitive proof that the President has the authority to simply cancel student loan debt without congressional approval, Joe Biden is reportedly in talks to do precisely that and he claims a decision will be coming in a matter of weeks. The progressive lobby in Congress has been pushing Biden to take such an action, but he supposedly isn’t prepared to give them everything they want. The target figure for progressives is $50,000 in debt relief for everyone. Biden said he’s not going that high and there are expected to be income caps associated with any proposed relief. What the exact figures

Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter has made all the right people mad, and that includes a lot of the talking heads within the mainstream media. Initial reactions were as overwrought as you’d expect, with cable news setting its collective hair on fire.
But, if anyone thought the passage of time would bring about some moderation, I can assure you that hasn’t happened. CNN held a hilariously composed roundtable on Sunday morning with figures like Brian Stelter, April Ryan, and someone named David Zurawik. While obviously being an avid political observer, I’ll admit to having no idea who Zurawik is. Yet, my first exposure to him has certainly left an impression. Namely, that he’s deranged.

Russia threatened a dramatic escalation of its war in Ukraine Thursday when Russia’s Channel One featured a video depicting Russian missiles reaching Berlin, Paris, and London.According to the UK’s Express, Channel One’s 60 Minutes program, one of the most popular TV shows in Russia, featured “the chairman of the nationalist Rodina party, Aleksey Zhuravlyov,” who “suggested Russia could launch a Sarmat missile attack on the UK.” This was not, however, Zhuravlyov’s eccentric view: “Producers then cut to a map of Kaliningrad and seemed to suggest that missiles could be launched from the Russian enclave between Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea.”
Zhuravlyov declared: “One Sarmat [missile] and that’s it

Just days after Hillary Clinton emissaries Christopher Steele and Michael Sussmann approached the FBI in September 2016 with dirt that would infuse the Russia collusion probe, the campaign's opposition research firm sent some of the same information to New York Times journalist. "Gents good to see you yesterday," a Fusion GPS executive wrote the reporters. "Sounded like you might be interested in some of the attached russia-related material. these are internal, open source research drafts, as agreed, pls treat this as background/not for attribution. as you'll see it's all easily replicated anyway."

The New York Times is running a three-part expose of Fox News show host Tucker Carlson. sub-titled “American Nationalist,” delivered by a staggering ten-person research/reporting crew led by reporter Nicholas Confessore, including an exhaustive analysis of 1150 episodes of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that ran from November 2016 through 2021.
Confessore relied on anonymous sourcing and hostile characterizations of the host’s populist- conservative opinions to bluntly declare both his show and Carlson himself as racist. The headline to Part 1, blared on Sunday's front page, set the tone for this extraordinarily long and completely hostile series, one of the longest things your scribe can remember reading from the Times: “How Tucker Carlson Stoked White Fear

Two successive Manhattan District Attorneys, Cyrus Vance, Jr. and Alvin Bragg, have dug for dirt on Donald Trump, looking for something – anything – on which to indict him. And they have failed. The Washington Post:
A six-month grand jury that was convened late last year to hear evidence against Donald Trump was set to expire this week, closing a chapter in a lengthy criminal investigation that appears to be fizzling out without charges against the former president, people familiar with matter said.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D), who took office in January, inherited a probe launched by his predecessor, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., who was convinced that there was a case against Trump

Today’s doom scroll for Democrats comes courtesy of the NPR/PBS Marist Poll, which was out in the field last week with a survey of 1,377 voters. And it provides yet more indicators that Democrats are fast losing Latinos, which, if it comes to pass and becomes a real realignment of voting preferences, is, in the words of Ruy Teixiera, “an extinction level event for the Democratic Party.”
First, let’s look at the ethnic breakdown on Biden’s job approval rating:
On the question of Biden’s handling of the economy, Latinos are more negative than whites (thought it is within the margin of error, so basically a tie):

Just how doomed are Democrats in November's midterms? It doesn't take a statistician to read the writing on the wall — inflation sitting at 40-year highs, gas reaching an all-time high, a woke Democrat-education complex running amok, and an open border that's triggered drug, humanitarian, and public health crises — and see that the party in power of the executive and legislative branches is in trouble. A new poll out from NPR and Marist shows just how bad Democrats are doing and among which groups their support is trailing GOP candidates by double-digits on the generic congressional ballot question that asks "If this year's election for Congress

Google Chrome has announced a significant update for its more than three billion users after detecting 30 security vulnerabilities on its browser — seven of which were deemed highly severe — just weeks after issuing an update for a zero-day vulnerability that hackers exploited.
The company issued a press release on April 26 announcing that it will promote Google Chrome 101.0.4951.41 in the coming days or weeks to the stable channel for Mac, Windows, and Linux, which will offer protection from the dozens of common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVE) found on the browser, which Statista reports is used by 3.2 billion people.

April 30th marks the Fall of Saigon, and the end of the war in Vietnam.
But April 30th demarcates more than just the end of the first war America lost; that date could be used as the beginning of the end of many “myths” about the war — the first being, that America’s military “lost.” In reality, the men who fought in Vietnam weren’t allowed to win. The politicians in Washington, particularly Robert McNamara as the Secretary of Defense, hamstrung our fighting men with absurd rules of engagement (ROE) that made it impossible to win.

For if Men are to be precluded from offering their Sentiments on a matter, which may involve the most serious and alarming consequences, that can invite the consideration of Mankind, reason is of no use to us; the freedom of Speech may be taken away, and, dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep, to the Slaughter.
—George Washington Washington was on to something. There is no more vital safeguard of our liberties than freedom of speech. Without it, we are, as Washington graphically notes, “like sheep led to the slaughter.”
Benjamin Franklin (writing as the widow Silence Dogood) said it as plainly as it could be said. In those wretched
