Despite the lack of any definitive proof that the President has the authority to simply cancel student loan debt without congressional approval, Joe Biden is reportedly in talks to do precisely that and he claims a decision will be coming in a matter of weeks. The progressive lobby in Congress has been pushing Biden to take such an action, but he supposedly isn’t prepared to give them everything they want. The target figure for progressives is $50,000 in debt relief for everyone. Biden said he’s not going that high and there are expected to be income caps associated with any proposed relief. What the exact figures

What about all those who dutifully paid off their student loans, through massive efforts of toil and labor?? Any incentives for us for doing the right thing?

I’m trying to find in the constitution where it says a president can cancel debt. He has no such power.

These are the same scam artist that will want the tax payers to pay off their mortgages and car loans in another few years. What’s the difference? They signed on for their student loans. A perfect example is that AOC. She wants us to pay off her student loans while she’s driving a Tesla. No thanks, I didn’t sign up to pay deadbeat peoples student loans.

Brandon has authority neither to cancel debt, nor to allocate funds to pay off the loans. Unless those funds are his personal money; but that should probably be frozen while it is determined whether he got it legally. The emails between The Big Guy and his son Hunter strongly hint at impropriety.

everything this clown does causes chaos and dissention and the horrible thing about it is - it's all intentional so, how can he remain in office, he is, even though his brain is melting down, the most purposefully vindictive and hateful person who has ever held the office except, maybe, for comrade obama

And next year's tuitions will rise faster than inflation and college's personal endowments will grow by hundreds of millions. Yep, all as planned.

Congress no longer writes and approves lawmaking. Joey just write EO'S and we must all OBEY. Why is no one standing up to this nonsense?

And however he writes his edict from on high, don't expect it to benefit anyone we know. Dem voters in selected areas will be the only beneficiaries.

The Republicans better have their lawyers all lined up to stop this nonsense in its infancy.

The elitist will benefit after all. Biden is considering salaries of $125,000-$150,000.

Don't believe an executive order will be able to give student loan forgiveness. This will need to become law by the house/senate. It will never happen in the Senate.

Biden will issue his Executive Order and it will immediately be challenged in court as illegal. Biden will get to claim that he tried, and blame the courts.

There is language in the 1965 law that could be interpreted to read that the president had such authority.
My question, addressed to any lawyers on this site is this.
Who has legal standing to sue? I don't know. But then I'm a mere arbitrator.
There will be a wonderful legal debate on this issue, on cable networks. Even Jeffrey Toobin can hardly wait to get his hands on this. (He seems to have a firm grip on things.)

#8 tuition has been running out of control since the government decided to guarantee the student loan. Look at the universities. They are all country clubs with fancy buildings. They don't care if the student graduate or not, let alone with a degree in basket weaving, because they know they got the money. The government created this problem years ago because "everybody has to go to college" since the high schools don't educate not even in the minimum skills. I am not defending those who didn't pay the loan. But the government keeps on printing to give "OUR' money to underserving third world hell holes like the Ukraine, so why not printing money that stays in America.

If the burden of repayment of loans is taken off the borrowers, and placed on taxpayers in general...without a law passed through the Congress...isn't that Taxation Without Representation?!

Why not just cancel all accumulated interest and make people pay off the principal?
Then end the tax-exempt status of college endowments to (start to) raise the corresponding revenue.

The President should never have this kind of power. Obama really set the stage for CommuNazi dictatorship and no one challenged him,

#2, your loan is a contract, and the government can not invalidate a contract.

Lack of information. Doesnt give range of cost to tax payers. Regardless i assume its a lot. How does an executive have the authority to soley approve such a large expenditure of public funds; something very wrong with that policy. This is only possible because obama nationalized that debt; again how was he able to set up such a large future give away. This will buy very few votes since those freeloaders will already vote for the coomie party. This may backfire because many hardworking former demonrat voters and union workers will be pretty upset with this huge giveaway. If done by executive order can the next guy come in and reinstate the loans or will they pull the obama thing and have all records destroyed. This again is a plan that does not benefit all americans and therefore clearly must fall under equal protection. I want my 10000$ too; i did pay back my student loans long ago but if taxpayer money is being thrown around i demand my share.
