ATLANTA — Movie director Ryan Coogler was briefly handcuffed by Atlanta police after a bank employee mistook him for a robber when he passed her a note while trying to withdraw a large amount of cash from his account. The “Black Panther” director, who is Black, walked into a Bank of America branch Jan. 7 and passed the bank employee a withdrawal slip with a note written on the back asking her to “be discreet when handing him the cash,

"Mistaken"?? Heck, he probably has been a bank robber, fits in with standard Black Panther operations in the past.

Sue the bank... They will settle out of court rather than lose all that Atlanta black business.

#1, "Black Panther" in this case refers to the Marvel super-hero movie, which Mr. Coogler directed.
This was a cluster all around. If I, a white septuenagarian, were to withdraw $12K from my bank, I would not want that big a cash transaction to come to anyone else's attention either. I hope Mr Coogler receives a large settlement for his humiliation.
What this illustrates to me is how supercharged our society has become over any event with a racial component. For this state of affairs I hold the divisive Obama and his minions entirely responsible.

Wish I knew if the note said 'THIS IS A STICKUP' or not. That would be clue for the teller.

A man who self-identified as Ryan Coogler, who is Black, trying to withdraw more than $10,000 from Ryan Coogler's account, a woman bank employee, who is Black, “received an alert notification” from Ryan Coogler's account, while a black Lexus SUV was parked out front with the engine running.
Yeah, sure, you betcha, a perfectly innocent combination of circumstances.

ALL the bank employees, including manager, are black. All 3 responding police officers are black. But hey, racism.

The alert notification caught my attention along with his California “identity” card. Um is that a drivers license? Was that his drug dealer waiting in the car?

Anyone with half a brain... no, make that 1/10 of a brain, should no better than to EVER EVER EVER pass a NOTE to a Bank Teller.
Regardless of what the note says, bank security seeing this will be put on high alert. The customer can lean over to the teller and quietly say "for my safety, please conduct this withdrawal with discretion".
But, frankly, I smell a stunt here.

First of all who needs that much cash oh wait dealers don't use venmo. Second of all, branch banks do NOT like big transactions one time I had to DEPOSIT a large check from a real estate transaction and they were EXTREMELY jittery.

Agree with #10. I know someone who tried to DEPOSIT $10,000 in cash in a local bank and had no end of trouble from the bank. It was perfectly legitimate - he and his wife were housing a foreign friend's daughter for the school year, and the friend paid them a lump sum in cash for their expenses. Years ago, I received a large check from an out of town bank (again for perfectly legal purposes) only to be questioned about the purpose. Now, I do anything over a few thousand dollars with wire transfers. Banks seldom question those.

“The “Black Panther” director, who is Black…”. Well, I thought the director of a black action movie was white. Thanks for letting us know otherwise.

Guy walks into the bank ask for money out of his account, has a withdrawal slip, but the article does not mention that the dude had a mask on. (bank robbers tend to wear mask by the way) and tells tell the bank teller to be discrete. Sounds a lot like a robbery attempt to me. Did the guy have a sign on his mask that says "I am the Black Panther Leader"? No. So how was the teller supposed to know other than it looked suspicious and there is a lot of nefarious activity going on in these crazy times.
The guy should have given the teller his ID (given he was masked) along with the withdrawal slip so she could see he was legitimate. This is about equal fault both ways to me.
