McDonald’s Shuts Down 850 Restaurants

McDonald’s announced Tuesday that it will temporarily close all 850 of its restaurants in Russia over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. “McDonald’s has decided to temporarily close all our restaurants in Russia and pause all operations in the market,” the press release stated. The press release was originally an email CEO Chris Kempczinski sent to McDonald’s employees and franchisees.

Comments:

Russia no longer has Netflix OR Mcdonald's. How is this supposed to hurt them? In a generation, Russia is going to be the most physically fit, mentally healthy society on the planet. If we want to punish them we should send the cast of the View along with CNN MSNBC and all of the woke celebrities.

Excellent comments, OP. Americans still working in Russia may complain. The only reason I ever visited McDonalds here is because my dog liked the biscuits at the drive-up window.

I once stopped at a McDonald's about seven years ago on a long trip because I needed some coffee and to use the restroom. I don't eat plastic unhealthy garbage they sell the same goes for Burger King. Soviets should be rejoicing about this news.

Even if Nordstream II remained open, with the loss of that many McDonalds Russia would not have nearly as much product to send through it. Think about that the next time you want to use a drive thru.

Big Mac, large fries, 32 oz coke is something like 1400 calories. 2,000 a day is optimal. We’ve learned how harmful obesity is when fighting disease. Russians are better off for it. Not sure how this will influence Putin. America can see the writing on the wall. A social credit system is coming.

If the Russian people are anything like a large chunk of people (pun intended) here in the US, the loss of Netflix and McDonalds might be enough to to start a populist revolt against Putin. (Kidding but not completely)

McDonald's thinks it is temporary. The Russians may nationalize their investments, and McDonalds may have to write off their investment. An 850 restaurant writeoff is significant, even to McDonalds. It is a very stupid move on the part of McDonald's. The Russians know how to cook hamburgers and fries. McDonald's is making a lot of mistakes. They increased wages to $15 and hour to start. Then, inflation hit, and raised the prices of all their products. Customers will begin go decline McDonald's price offerings. McDonald's stock is overpriced with all this screw ups.

In 1996, Mrs. Lakerman and I made two trips to Moscow, to adopt two children. While we were there, we were taken to the only McDonalds in Moscow, along with other adopting Americans, I guess so we could say we ate at a McDonalds in Russia. We stood in line for one hour, and were told by our interpreter that one hour was typical wait time. The food tasted the same as at an American McDonalds. Separate from that, Lucianne, was does a photo of two homosexual men kissing show up on the bottom of my screen? If you want to show homosexuals kissing, show lesbians. That would be less offensive.

Typical male teenager needs at least 2800 calories per day. At 19 I never ate breakfast. Too busy. At lunch I ate: Two big macs 1100, fries 400, Coke 16 oz 140, Chocolate Shake 600 Total calories=2240 Then I went home and ate supper. I was 6ft tall and weighed 140 lbs. McDonalds was a bargain and kept me fed without making me go broke. I didn't hit 160lbs till I was 30. And another thing, a typical athlete during training consumes 8000 calories per day. One thing about those athletes is with that much food they have to go a lot. At the Olympic Village the toilets get a work out.

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna – who was speaking to BBC TV’s Sunday Morning programme – accused Russia of “military tactics right in the cities of Ukraine”, adding they were carrying out a “terroristic plan”, with attacks coming from the air and also by land. “Shelled hospitals, the shelled houses for kindergartens and schools, and the ordinary households,” she said. “This is how the reality looks.” She said Ukraine was seeing “another wave of implementation of this terroristic plan of [the] Russian Federation”. Ms Stefanishyna claimed Russia was suffering “enormous losses” of soldiers and equipment, but this “does not deter Russia”.

Hundreds of trucks, RVs and cars descended on Washington DC Sunday, with the goal of shutting down traffic around the capital in protest of COVID-19 mandates. The “People’s Convoy,” inspired by the Canadian “Freedom Convoy” that brought Ottawa to a standstill last month, finally reached DC after departing from California last week, growing in size as others joined on the way. The stunt on Sunday failed to bring traffic to a complete standstill, but did slow it down at certain points. Convoy leaders said they plan to again drive slowly around Beltway – a 64-mile highway that encircles the city — on Monday.

But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God” (John 3:20-21). NASB

President Biden’s announcement that the United States will ban imports of Russian oil caused the price of crude to surge on Tuesday morning. However, the pain that Americans are set to feel at the gas pump could eventually be offset if Congress were to pass Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, a new study finds. An analysis released Tuesday by the nonpartisan think tank Energy Innovation finds that the climate change provisions of Biden’s now-defunct proposal, such as tax credits for buying new electric vehicles, would have reduced U.S. oil consumption by 2025 by half of the roughly 200,000 barrels of crude oil from Russia

WASHINGTON — Some social media users suggest that soaring fuel prices in the U.S. aren’t the result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, increased consumption or supply chain issues as daily life resumes after two years of stagnation brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
