Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Selma, Alabama, on Sunday, where she will walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to mark the 57th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, a key moment in the civil rights moment. Bloody Sunday commemorates when, in 1965, 600 people began a march from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery, Alabama, demanding an end to discrimination in voter registration. At the Edmund Pettus Bridge, state and local lawmen attacked the marchers with billy clubs and tear gas, driving them back to Selma. Seventeen people were hospitalized and dozens were more injured by police. The vice president will also

Happily, even if they rename the bridge as they surely will, all the history books telling about the civil rights movement will still have to refer to it as the Edmund Pettus Bridge, named after a Confederate general.

Why is it that the two black-ish people who made it to the Executive branch within the Democratic Party have no family history of American slaves? Not one of their ancestors was held in bondage in the U.S. and excepting Obama’s slave-holding ancestors neither Obama or Harris have any connection to American slavery. Both were raised for a significant number of their formative years in foreign countries and in the U.S. in Honolulu and Berkeley/Palo Alto, CA rather than the American South or anywhere else with histories of Jim Crow laws. Harris should be as much a symbol of black oppression as Elizabeth Warren is of Native American oppression.

WASHINGTON — Some social media users suggest that soaring fuel prices in the U.S. aren’t the result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, increased consumption or supply chain issues as daily life resumes after two years of stagnation brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the flurry of Facebook and Twitter posts offer, without evidence, that a nefarious scheme is underway: President Joe Biden’s administration is intentionally driving up the price of gas to get more American drivers behind the wheel of an electric car. “$6.00 a gallon gas is how you get people to buy electric cars,” claims one popular

U.S. inflation accelerated to the fastest pace in four decades again last month, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated Thursday, with the recent surge in oil and gas prices linked to Russia's war on Ukraine likely to keep rates elevated well into the second half of the year.
