Tesla will recall 54,000 electric cars in order to disable a self-driving feature that prevents them from coming to a full stop at intersections with stop signs.
The Teslas being recalled have an autonomous “rolling stop” function in which they move slowly through a stop sign without coming to a full halt. In most states, vehicle are required to come to a complete stop at intersections outfitted with stop signs.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the self-driving feature endangers driver safety since “failing to stop at a stop sign can increase the risk of a crash.”
According to the NHTSA, Tesla introduced the rolling stop functionality

It's not in every car. It is in the ones who paid $10k for the full self drive and then signed up for the beta and then turned the one feature on.
Let's be realistic. Zero crashes, injuries, or deaths. And will be fixed by a software update rolled out remotely to all vehicles.
I don't understand the Tesla hate. I love my 2 seater ridiculously over powered sports car. I also love my Tesla. They each serve a purpose. They are not agenda driven political tools of the left.

I don't think it is "Tesla hate" so much as it is "oil hate" and the concerted effort by the goobermunt, greenies, and the enemedia forcing e-cars down our throats.

No one likes Federal & State subsidies and taxpayer funded "freebies" handed out to make a technology into a "winner." Corn Ethanol and Tesla both have the same familiar odor.

If you need a self driving feature on your car, perhaps you shouldn’t be in one.

Why do you want your vehicle to drive itself? Are you really that lazy?

The first horses that were designed were able to come to a complete stop.

Stop signs say STOP. Now no one is perfect including me but I do come to a complete stop 90% of the time. It is the law. So, if a self driving car does a rolling stop who gets the ticket? In a crazy sort of way I’m starting to like Elon Musk.

No worries, it's a feature not a bug. To be fair, most drivers of manually controlled cars treat stop signs the same way, I know I do. If you can see a hundred yards or more in both directions, you save time and wear and tear on the brakes by not full stopping just to please the traffic cops. They love to write easy tickets.
When viewed seperately from the world around them, Teslas are good cars except for the occasional meltdown, it's a matter of cost, the lack of a charging infrastructure away from home and government fanaticism over ICE technology to please the green weenies that keep me from owning one.

What happens if someone is walking down the sidewalk wearing a shirt with a stop sign printed printed on it?
Or an advertisement so adorned?
What happens if malicious actors find these kids of bugs and exploit them?

This is part of the "Elitist" package for the rich and privileged. They are above the law, don't you know. That is also why the government (the rest of us) subsidizes the purchase of Teslas.

I think the Tesla hate is a spillover from the Toyota Prius hate. People didn't like the Prius because of the pretentious climate change people who chose to drive them. This little beep, beep kind of car letting everyone know it's a green car. The hate for Tesla is basically the same as the Prius but adds the added issue of it being a high-priced vehicle as well. So, the drivers of a Tesla are viewed as rich pretentious climate change people. It's also has the problem of being associated with Elon Musk, and Elon Musk is viewed as a pretentious know it all by a lot of people.

I've observed that a lot of Irish drivers ignore stop signs...and even more drivers here in Nuevo Mexico ignore stop signs. Can we be reprogrammed?

I'm 78 and I'm going to drive my own car until they shovel dirt on me! That's why I have a couple of classics that you have to 'row your own. Today's car jackers won't be able to shift and get away, like they can't dial a rotary phone, read cursive or do math w/o a calculator.

Self driving should be absolutely illegal. It is VERY dangerous.
