Boomers for Censorship

Neil Young (76), better known as “and Young,” was the first. A few days later, there were rumors that Barry Manilow (78) followed, but he appeared to deny them via Twitter on Friday afternoon. The same day, before the Denny’s early bird special expired, Peter Frampton (71) appears to have joined “and Young’s” tenuous movement. Let’s call it, “Boomers for Censorship.” If you’re not aware, earlier this week, “and Young” threatened to remove his music catalogue from Spotify if the corporate media behemoth did not remove the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast from its platform.

All the real musical talent, 50's and 60's rockers, have passed away, and I was never a big fan of any of these guys, so pulling their music is no great loss. I have a huge pile of LP's and that I listen to,as well as older country, when the artists weren't jumping around the stage singing the same word over and over. They won't be missed in my house.

Censorship seems to be getting more popular on all frequencies of the political spectrum. I stand with Voltaire, who supposedly said, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." For a country whose best ideas arose from political conflict some call democracy, it is disgusting anyone should support censorship...which generally means your argument fails.

He didn't threaten to leave, he demanded they either choose him or Rogan, can't have both, he said. Since Spotify just signed Rogan to $110 million dollar contract, it was an easy decision, and one that Neil Young brought about on his own. Funny to think of the counter culture musicians of the 60's and early 70's, and the politicians of the same era, all now demanding we trust the government. Really wasn't something they felt back then, however. This also makes you wonder what happens to a company who loses millions of subscribers or clicks, like Twitter seems to do on a regular basis over the past few years by de-platforming people, or same with You Tube? Do they all re-capture those lost eyeballs, and it doesn't affect their stock prices?

I have never understood the attraction to And Young, or many of the so called Counter Culture artists from the 60s. Bad singing voices, insipid lyrics, poor music and hygiene. Not trusting the government, but as they aged, they all seem to have sold out to group think and limousine socialism.

FTA: All that would need to happen now for Neil Young would be for some corporate entity to get behind him, herald his music, give him a platform, reinvent him as an icon of “courage,” The problem there for Old Man Young is that he has a history of being an anti-corporate activist, epitomized by his anti-corporate screed that masqueraded as an album, "This Notes For You." Good luck to him finding a corporation to back him.

I've also read that longtime "and Young" friend Joni Mitchell has also come out to support him and his campaign and is considering whether to risk her 3+ million plays on Spotify. Since she doesn't have any recent music to hawk it might be enough to just lend him vocal support... As a Boomer and a musician, it's really sad to see the toll that drugs and the lifestyle have wrought on once-great artists. And it illustrates that artists don't have to be intellectual heavyweights - it's just "Feelings! Whoa-o, feelings!" greyseal greyseal

The world’s elite: Tone-deaf, willfully

Are the world’s elite tone-deaf, willfully ignorant, or truly malicious? I must contemplate this question because, on a very human level, it points to where we’ve gone wrong, and what we must do to fix it before it’s too late. I think, honestly, it’s all three. It just depends on the person whom we’re talking about and what set of circumstances we’re contemplating. Let’s face it: There are a relative few who consider themselves “the chosen” in this world, the ones with the most money, the power-mad, the influencers.

Have you noticed the dwindling shelves at the grocery store? Are you still waiting on product orders placed months ago? In our household, this is a regular observation. School uniform items like pants and shirts that we ordered for our children last Summer took the better part of four to five months to arrive, and we were left scrambling for approved apparel for them to wear to school this past Fall. This phenomenon is not limited to school uniforms or grocery items either.

The Democrats and the propaganda ministry have tried to portray the events of January 6 as the greatest assault on democracy… in like, forever. But it seems like that narrative is starting to unravel. The unraveling began when many people began to suspect that the whole thing was a setup and started looking into it. It wasn’t law enforcement or MSM journalists investigating -- they could be controlled. It was amateur citizen investigators using the power of the internet.

The power of government rests on ignorance of the people, and it knows this, and therefore will always resist enlightenment. Leo Tolstoy Every nation has its fair share of people with no useful abilities, yet harboring considerable ambition and an insurmountable craving for la dolce vita. The longing is there, but with no means for its realization. So, what they to do? Sooner or later the mediocre find a workable solution: they go into politics. A sufficiently high position in a government structure that doesn’t require any special abilities or talents gives an nearly assured opportunity to receive lucrative benefits, including money, respect, and influence.

There is a real possibility that the European Union (EU) will endure major fuel shortages this winter. Record-high electricity prices are currently the norm with no end in sight. Russian president Vladimir Putin astutely understands that the EU heavily relies on Russian natural gas, which the Nord Stream 1 and now 2 (NS2) natural gas pipeline will provide. This $11 billion line to the German coast spanning 764 miles under the Baltic Sea will double the capacity of Russian natural gas and be used as a geopolitical leverage point against Ukraine, Poland, NATO, the EU, and most of all Germany, the largest economy in the EU.

Then the union walkouts spread to Maryland, New Jersey and California. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, a liberal Democrat, has attacked the Chicago teachers unions for "holding kids hostage." Most Americans today have a romanticized (and extraordinarily narrow) historical understanding of the conflict that we call the Civil War. In their imaginations, it goes something like this: With passions inflamed by a moral renaissance in the North regarding the institution of slavery in the South, the two sides decided to go to war over the issue. In the end, the evil South was righteously razed by the armies of the North, and thus, slavery was ended, and the former slaves made American citizens, as Abraham Lincoln intended.

Most people look at the choice of Kamala Harris for Vice President and scratch their head. “Why would anyone pick a person so wildly devoid of political talent or even the basics of likability?” they wonder. The conventional wisdom is that she checked the right number of boxes to fulfill left-wing interest group demands, which is partially true, of course. Overlooked, however, is how there is one more, rather good and important reason Joe Biden, or really any politician, would pick someone like Harris: because by comparison, you’ll always look better. Harris is such a singularly grating personality that she polls lower than lemon juice on an open wound.
