Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles—Seventeen cars of a Union Pacific train derailed Saturday afternoon in Lincoln Heights, the same area which has recently seen rail car thefts. Drone video showed the scene of the derailment near San Pablo Street and Valley Boulevard, which is expected to be blocked for some time. The tracks were still surrounded and littered with empty boxes from companies like Amazon and UPS, left behind by cargo thieves. Union Pacific officials said nobody on the train was hurt and the cause of the derailment is under investigation. Though it's unclear if another theft occurred Saturday, the train company says it has asked the L.A. County District's

Comments:

The district attorney refuses to punish the looters, so they loot even more, causing even greater damage. Businesses suffer and the government laughs. USA in microcosm.

What's the betting line on whether this was an intentional derailment by the thieves? I'm betting that it was intentional so that they could steal more stuff.

First thing that crossed my mind, #2. I am not a big believer in coincidence in the first place, but the derailment happens right here at this time? The railroads are going to have to go back to the old days of having their own armed presence, and deal with this vermin. Shoot a few of these looter scum dead, and this crap will come to an end.

It's probable that (1) the Union Pacific Police (which is an outgrowth of the famous Pinkerton Agency **) is not allowed to do more than arrest these thieves (shooting them would be probably be murder); (2) that policing the railroad rights of way is exclusively the responsibility of the Union Pacific Police; and (3) if the local police can be granted authority to police these rights of way, they will not give their assistance (even if the railroads will financially subsidize such services). I recently read that the physical security regarding prevention of breaking into boxcars has been weakened over time. If this is correct, perhaps these boxcars can be physically reinforced. It's probable that the subject cars have been derailed by these thieves - to give themselves more time to break into them. ** https://www.up.com/aboutup/community/safety/special_agents/index.htm

The fourth dose of the Covid vaccine is less effective on the Omicron variant and provides only limited defence, a preliminary study in Israel has found. Israel's Sheba Medical Center began administering a fourth vaccine to more than 270 medical staff last month during a trial program. Experts studied the defence of the Pfizer booster in 154 people after two weeks and the Moderna booster in 120 people—who had previously been vaccinated three times with the Pfizer vaccine—after one week. The clinical trial found that both groups showed increases in antibodies 'slightly higher' than following the third vaccine last year. But it said the increased antibodies did not prevent
