On Wednesday, the Cathedral of the Rockies near downtown Boise finished replacing a stained-glass windowpane that the church felt was racist and non-inclusive. “To any African American in our community, when they see Robert E. Lee, they’re not feeling warm and welcomed,” said the church’s lead pastor Duane Anders. The Methodist church, which sits on 11th St. in Boise’s North End, was built in 1960. At the time, a giant stained-glass window was installed that mainly depicts early Christian leaders, except for a panel at the top. The upper panel features George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Robert E. Lee standing shoulder to shoulder.

Comments:

Yay! The Boise Methodists WOKE! (No mention of female Bishop Kelly's sexual orientation; if she was a lesbian, ALL the boxes were checked.) I'm not a member of the congregation, but their cathedral is gorgeous! (Was before - still is, I'm sure.)

I do not understand why a “church” would canonize a politician, general, or a church administrator. That’s what a cult does.

Lee and Washington were Episcopalians, Lincoln wasn't much of anything, so I don't see why they were honored in a Methodist church anyway. And of the three, Lee was the most Christian by far. And OP, she was married to two men (divorced the first one) so she probably wasn't gay, but she and both husbands were radical leftists.

Way back in 1969 my local banker told me the reason for leaving the UMC was the election of the first African-American bishop after the 1968 union of The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Church. That was Bishop Roy Nichols.

Lead Pastor Duane Anders openly displays his ignorance or history in an attempt to be woke. From my reading of many books about Robert E. Lee, he was an unapologetic Christian with strong religious beliefs. But, it is a challenge to find a woke person who is not ignorant.

Why would they want to replace "a stained glass window depicting Robert E Lee with first black female Methodist bishop"? I mean civil war general with black female bishop that's historic!

I was raised a Methodist, and in my teen years, attended a very good, nice Methodist church. Since then, the Methodists have been taken over nationally by communists, and many local churches have moved to the extreme left. I no longer attend or even seek a Methodist church. They are not people I would associate with. A perfect example of why.

BYU and Boise State players made a striking image Friday night as they held each others’ hands and knelt together on the blue turf of Boise’s Albertsons Stadium after a game between two nationally ranked football teams. Pastor Mark Thornton stood in their midst and prayed over them as some players bowed heads and others lifted faces heavenward. Virtually every player from both teams participated. The massive huddle between what normally are on-field rivals covered the logo at midfield and sprawled for 15 yards.

One of Boise’s largest churches is removing a controversial reminder of Idaho’s connections to the Confederacy — a stained-glass window featuring Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The Cathedral of the Rockies installed stained-glass windows for its then-new building in downtown Boise in 1960. Church documents show that the window, featuring Lee standing with Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, was meant as an “inclusive nod to Southerners who have settled in Boise,” said the Rev. Duane Anders, senior pastor. “Clearly, white Southerners,” Anders said.
