How Mitt Romney Decided
Trump Is Guilty

Original Article

Posted By: rubberneck, 2/5/2020 2:40:47 PM

Mitt Romney didn’t want to go through with it. “This has been the most difficult decision I have ever had to make in my life,” he told me yesterday afternoon in his Senate office. Roughly 24 hours later, Romney would deliver a speech announcing that he was voting to convict President Donald Trump on the first article of impeachment—abuse of power.

Comments:

I would be willing to take the esteemed Mr. Romney at his word... if he didn't have a long and storied history of personal political opportunism. He was anti-Second-Amendment before he was for it. He was pro-abortion before he was anti-abortion. He was a Trump fan when he was courting an endorsement, then he stabbed Trump in the back, and continues to twist the knife. I was once a lukewarm fan - not any more!

Mitt can keep telling himself (and others) that he is voting guilty because it is the right thing to do, but he will still be wrong! TDS has apparently mutated so that it also infects previously respected Republicans. Also, how can Romney vote to convict if he felt that he needed more witnesses and information when he voted for more witnesses because the case was apparently not proven?

I would hope the good folks in Utah will get rid of him at the end of his term, if not before. There has to be a REPUBLICAN in Utah willing to run for that Seat. Mitt has never been a true Republican, and he hates Trump, so I guess we should have expected him to do this. Maybe he thought it would get him a lot of attention, and it has, only I think it's not going to be the attention he would like. I think he's a disgrace! I hope his fellow Senators feel the same and let him know it!

Romney must have been sleeping, reading a book, or something during this whole sham impeachment process. Democrats alleged no crime. They just whined and sniveled because President Trump wouldn't help them with impeachment. They just wanted to impeach because they don't like President Trump or his policies. After some of the best minds in the legal world patiently explained why there were no grounds for impeachment, and after the transcript of the call was made public (surprise, surprise!) and destroyed Schiff's dirty little lies, how can Romney still find something to remove the President? Does he truly believe Schiff and Nadler? Of course not! No sane person would. Romney may have searched his soul, prayed, and all that, but he has made a decision to do the wrong thing for his own wrong personal reasons. If he is representative of the Mormons (and I don't think he is, no matter what he claims) that group needs to clarify it's position!

Anyone who has ever had the misfortune to serve on a hung jury has experienced this kind of irrational juror. Mitt must have completely missed the presentations of Pam Bondi and Eric Herschmann that clearly showed a serious concern for potential corruption regarding Biden's behavior in Ukraine even from the State Department witnesses. It doesn't matter how much evidence you present or logic you use you can't change their mind because their conscience or God or "heart" told them to decide they way they did. Maybe Mitt talked with his campaign foreign adviser, Cofer Black, who also served on Burisma's board and received laundered money to convince himself that Hunter was actually worth $83,000 per month for not even showing up. Jurors like Mitt are why OJ walked free.

EVERYONE knows that Romney detests Trump, and also resents the way Trump (which WAS nasty) had him in to talk about a major office and then rejected him. Also, I am sure the man is furious that Trump won what he couldn't. So let's not play games and pretend this is a decision drawn on principle. What WILL be interesting to see is if Romney, not yet up for re-election but in a very pro Trump state, will have the guts to vote impeach this afternoon. His constituents will hate him for it, and I presume will also REMEMBER>

Fooled me once, but not the second time. Lots of Anger about Romney now — with a possible proposal in legislature to recall a senator and all. The very good man Romney beat in the primary changed his Facebook photo yesterday and all sorts of people were asking him and begging him to run again and saying they hadn't voted for Romney and what a mistake R is. I will say, physically, Romney — I don't think looks the same — like pure evil has taken over and he has gone to the dark side. I am angry, also, because Romney never fought for us like Trump has. There was that first debate and then R just rolled over and that was it.

This tells me that the man is pathetically credulous and apparently can’t make distinctions. His motivations may even be base. That’s a very good question, #13. So much for reasonable doubt, particularly when no specific crime was actually defined. Due process has been woefully absent throughout this charade, and that alone should ensure acquittal.

As far as Trump supporters are concerned, who are the vast majority of Republican voters outside the DC beltway, from now on Romney is a non-entity in the Republican Party. In that respect it has recently reported that Romney is going to run for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2024. Romney should just forget it or get blown out of the saddle in 2024. Who knows maybe the good citizens of Utah will recall the holier than thou opportunist Romney taking him completely out of the DC political picture.

In a real courtroom the judge would have thrown out the arts of impeachment for “failing to state a cause of action”, such as if I brought a suit against some for being a Republican or being named Trump. In a courtroom the jurors would simply be fact finders- for example, do the facts show that driver A had a clear opportunity to stop but negligently did not do it. If there were two witnesses one saying the defendants stabbed the victim the other saying he did not, the the juror would have to decide who was telling the truth. I might pray on such a decision. Here there are no disputed facts. Just an absurd theory that the president cannot request the investigation of of someone if that someone’s father is a political opponent of the president. There is no law against the president doing so. There is no privilege against prosecution for the political opponent. So pierre prayed and hallucinated satan’s voice and voted to convict for a noncrime nonoffense. It’s just something the political allies of the political opponent don’t like.

So Mittens is clairvoyant as well. I wish he looked into the future ans saw he's butt being kicked by Cathy Crowley. So Romney knows Old Joe will be the nominee. HOw else can it be election interference if somelike Sanders or Lieawatha is the nominee. Its not election interference if the person being investigated isn't a candidate. Or maybe it was your split personailty that can see into the future. Regardless, dropping the bar for impeachable offenses to hearsay, rumors and made up charges without any basis of law is one sure way to insure despotism. And we know for sure one Dem/Socialist, The Bern, already has shown us his Mein Kampf plan for despotism.

During Romney's announcement on the floor of the senate, that pregnant pause he took while he was reading his decision to vote against Trump wasn't emotion. It was him thinking, "Am I really going to do this? Am I going to run a spike through my own head with this vote? Rats!! I can't back out. I already gave Chris Wallace the interview three hours ago that I was voting to convict Trump." And Romney repeatedly hiding his spiteful decision behind religion was despicable. Mitt Romney, backstabber extraordinaire will go down in history as a traitor to the constitution, as well as to the state that, and the president who, helped send him to the senate. "Pierre Delecto" proved what people already thought about him. As to the democrats, this was nothing more than the next stage of their nonstop #resistance effort, ongoing since the day Trump was sworn in. Do not consider it over.

I’ll be the skunk at this party. I believe, if Romney is actually aware of the fact that he has very few friends on either side of the aisle due to his vote, then he actually did vote his conscience. This vote could cause Trump to pound him in the ground forever. It could cause every republican in the Senate to avoid him for the rest of his days as a senator. And, it could cause the good people of Utah to vote him out when he’s up for election. All of this could happen if the above people mentioned feel the way the posters on this thread feel. If he truly knows this and loses his job, but has no regrets, then he voted his conscience. Only time will tell. As for myself, I don’t care either way. At my age, I refuse to let what any politician does ruin my life. It’s not worth it.

I can also give Romney the benefit of the doubt that he truly believes that the president’s intention was to request Ukraine to go after Biden because Biden is an opponent in the 2020 election. I disagree. I frankly didnt listen to all the Dems’ arguments during the House hearings or the Senate trial but I did read the transcript of the phone call and it simply doesn’t prove anything like that. vindman didn’t prove it. The other guy Sand whatever didn’t prove it. Maybe Trump is just super slick at these things but — nobody can convince me that that was his intentional goal. I think he will be more careful about the potential for appearances next time. But that’s it. If you are convinced he is corrupt, you see everything he does as with the worst motives. I see a man who loves the country and wants to fix everything. He’s coarse and rude and vindictive - but at the same time often funny, kind and good hearted, and has a strong code of right and wrong. I listened to him on Rush and hannity’s radio shows several times years ago - he was talking about the same things about the country then. He has an enormous task and so I give him the benefit of the doubt for things he has not yet addressed, and pray for a second term with a republican house and senate!

BYU and Boise State players made a striking image Friday night as they held each others’ hands and knelt together on the blue turf of Boise’s Albertsons Stadium after a game between two nationally ranked football teams. Pastor Mark Thornton stood in their midst and prayed over them as some players bowed heads and others lifted faces heavenward. Virtually every player from both teams participated. One of Boise’s largest churches is removing a controversial reminder of Idaho’s connections to the Confederacy — a stained-glass window featuring Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The Cathedral of the Rockies installed stained-glass windows for its then-new building in downtown Boise in 1960. Church documents show that the window, featuring Lee standing with Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, was meant as an “inclusive nod to Southerners who have settled in Boise,” said the Rev. Duane Anders, senior pastor. “Clearly, white Southerners,” Anders said.

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
