The Charlottesville, Va. city council on Tuesday unanimously approved a move for its now-infamous statue of Confederate leader Robert E. Lee to be melted down to create public artwork that will "reflect racial justice," The New York Times reported. The city council will give the statue to the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, which plans to melt the monument to create a new piece of public artwork, according to the measure. The city council selected the Jefferson School’s proposal “Swords Into Plowshares,” from other potential bidders for the statue, according to The Times. According to its Indiegogo campaign page, the Jefferson School plans to “transform a national symbol

Just wondering when “racial justice” will be achieved (never) and how long there will be special preferences and segregations available for certain minorities, such as schools, student centers, job quotas, political groups (forever)? And how many cultural sacrifices will be made to try to appease our overlords?

Same here #8. When I grew up in the Deep South we were forbidden to use the ‘N-word. In my family it was considered a word used by low class people. Now the word fits a big part of the black community. Over the years I have given donations to a local black history museum but never again. Melting down Lee’s statue is sure to stop the slaughter in the black community....or maybe not. Let’s seal off the ghettos, provide free ammo and let them have at it. It will be at least a boon to the black funeral homes.

So, what can we expect from the present generation (and their supporters) in place of some of the great remembrances of far greater substance than they can even dream of, Maybe a few stadiums for sword fights? Maybe a.few jewelry stores to plunder? Let us see or hear what you have in mind. O r maybe a GREAT BIG statue of your leader,George soros,

#6 No. He most certainly was not! Lee freed every slave he inherited before there was a Civil War. Lincoln respected the man enough to ask him to lead the Union Army, and Lee only declined because he was first a citizen of Virginal, a sovereign state that had left a union. Lee wrote that "slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil." The slaves he gave away would have been worth millions in today's dollars. How much of your personal wealth have you given away freely to end slavery? There are more slaves in the world today than when Lee was alive. To think he is "infamous" is either ignorance or hypocrisy.

"Swords into Plowshares"...hilarious. I wonder if any of them know about "Project Plowshare" that used the exact same rationale to detonate atomic bombs in futile tests that were supposed to prove the weapons could be used for peaceful purposes - while contaminating every area one was detonated. This sounds nearly as useful and equally as well thought out.

It's not metaphysically possible to turn injustice into justice, and I consider what Antifa, BLM, and the rest of the 'woke' mob did in Charlottesville to have been an injustice. A real offense against truth and decency.
That includes the trashing of monuments and propagandized coverage in the 'woke' media.

Gen. Robert E. Lee was the spiritual founder of my fraternity (Kappa Alpha Order) and as such I have his portrait hanging on the southern wall in my den. You can try to erase his history or melt his statue but I've read and know a different Gen. Robert E. Lee than what horrifies liberals about him. I will never forget him or his legacy and no liberal can make me forget. LGBFJB

Lee was an important part of the success America had in "turning swords into ploughshares" the first time we did it. His role probably saved a lot of lives by tamping down confederates who wanted to continue the fight as a guerilla war. Send some history books to these people...Quick!

Ancient Romans used to excise citizens by destroying statues, coins, and any other reminders of the outcast. But that was 2000 years ago. One would hope, 2000 years later, we would have a more sophisticated approach to history… but then we are dealing with the Charlottesville city council. During my sojourn in that town I passed that noble statue many times and lament the travesty of its destruction.

Has Kamala piped in with her suggestion of what the resultant artwork should be? I assumed it would be a technically accurate portrayal of Jussie Smollett, titled Rectal Crainial Inversion, er Lynching of an Actor. But the sculpture is still in the early stages right now so that is subject to change.

Sculpt a big black hand with the middle finger extended. Robert E. Lee is among the ten best generals ever born in this country, I don't care which side he fought on. The Racial Justice Morons don't realize that without people like him they might still be slaves because they couldn't change that by themselves.

Melt it down then do what? Donate it to the Gettysburg battlefield with other statues of participants of that day. That statue doesn't heal the racism of the people melting it. They will still be racist, haters and woke into the future and forever. I despise stupid people who do stupid things in life.
