With just four weeks left in office, Mayor Bill de Blasio launched the country’s first legal shooting galleries Tuesday morning, calling them safe havens for addicts—shortly before five people overdosed at just one of the clinics on opening day. “Overdose Prevention Centers are a safe and effective way to address the opioid crisis. I’m proud to show cities in this country that after decades of failure, a smarter approach is possible,” de Blasio said in a statement. The nonprofit-run centers, New York Harm Reduction Educators on E. 126th Street in Harlem and Washington Heights’ CORNER Project on W. 180th Street, opened Tuesday. There were five overdoses

A smarter way? Maybe if you're a democrat. I hope they build them along the East River so they can just slide the bodies into the water.

Does anyone know - - if these shooting galleries allow for spectators?
I'm not a drug addict myself - - but I'd love to go there and watch the show. I'd even pay a few bucks to do it. In fact, my great niece is having a baby shower - - and I thought we might have it there.
Any info, folks?

Defining Deviancy Down— “In 1993, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D., N.Y.) coined the phrase “defining deviancy down. Moynihan’s thesis was that, as a society, America has been “re-defining deviancy” so as to exempt conduct previously stigmatized, and quietly raising the “normal” level for behavior that was abnormal by earlier standards.” (Hat tip Think.com) Back when Democrat politicians weren’t all America-haters.

“A city Health Department study found that the supervised injection sites could save up to 130 people a year” - from a photo caption.
You know closing the border and ending the free flow of drugs from China through Mexico would save thousands - no, TENS of thousands of lives. But why build a fence at the top of a cliff when you can send ambulances to care for the broken bodies at the bottom?

Sorry, I feel nothing but loathing and disgust for NYC voters of this criminal-coddling Mayor. How could they possibly vote for such a horrendous leader? They have turned their once great city into a filthy sewer and let the rats run rampant over everything.

Whatever you subsidize you will get more of. #9 has the only viable solution. Stop the flow of illegal drugs. Make it harder not easier to use.

Don't see how the city gets around Federal Laws that prohibit the use, distribution, and possession of these substances. The DEA should raid the center, arrest all involved, including the mayor. After the first overdose the mayor should be charged with negligent homicide.

When I first saw shooting gallery, I thought gun range. Since it's New York, I figured since getting a gun permit in New York is pretty tough, how many gun ranges could they possibly have? Then I saw it was De Blasio and the story was about using drugs, and then it all made sense to me.

Just another step toward oblivion for our once great country. Wilhelm is, I'm having finding a derogatory descriptive adjective for this person, just a cog in the wheel toward communism. What scum. Just what we need, more ways for the illegal drug cartels to use their product. I wonder what the cut is for the democRATS.

Just another tale of the death of Gnu Yak Sitty. By the way, Warren, where did Chirlane McCray, your dutiful wife, hide the $850 Million missing tax dollars from her “mental health” initiative? Surely that’s enough bread to keep all those junkies in high quality Fentanyl for quite some time, and I know Xi needs the cash. 🙄

A Democrat's idea of "cleaning up the city" Their idea of cleaning their apartment is to shove 20 year's worth of old newspapers, melon rinds, coffee grounds, empty bottles, and other trash into the back bedroom.
They have to disrupt the cycle of addiction with involuntary commitment to treatment facilities. Hey, they killed off the old people in their nursing homes. Room for addicts now. Lock them in. Even if they go in and out a dozen times and it never works for them, at least while they are in they won't overdose in a corner somewhere. That's SOMETHING. Better than this, just relocating all the OD's.

When I first read the title...I thought...putting druggies in a shooting facility was a great way of getting rid of the losers...they can shoot each other...then I realized that shooting ...meant shooting up!...pardon my ignorance with the terminology...but as a conseal carry citizen..I assumed deblasio meant lock and load...shows how far from New York mentality I am...

I also at first thought the article was about an indoor rifle range.
I quickly realized what they are talking about are Government-run Opium Dens, to use the more accurate term.
