A black finance worker has sued City giant AIG after her boss dismissed her complaint she was the victim of 'unconscious bias'. Investment apprentice Julie Nyeko told senior manager Brenda Monaghan she was worried she was being unfairly treated due to her race. She insisted colleagues needed training to identify prejudices they might not be aware of. (Snip) Miss Nyeko was later sacked for gross misconduct over her absences, failing to do work required and claiming for pay on days she had not worked. Now the junior investment worker has successfully sued AIG after bringing a victimisation case to an
I guess the 'you can hire them, but you can't fire them' trope has become reality. It doesn't matter if you don't show up for work, screw off, falsify time sheets, etc. As long as you are black, you are good to go.

No’s. 3 and 4 have nailed it. This lardass woman does what all of these people do when they get called out. The AIG manager made the mistake of not building a complete dossier of this woman’s exact performance. I think it’s safe to say that when a potential employer checks her background, they won’t even bother looking at her. Quick! Where is Andrea whatshername from The Five?

We hired the valedictorian of Prairie View A&M, in Texas into our engineering department. He was a smiling, pleasant young man, and went into an engineering group that I often did work for, as an internal consulting engineer in my particular specialty. Within a few weeks he called for a meeting, and I invited him down to my office. He explained that he had this job that he needed me to do, and since that was what I do, specialty engineering analysis, I said, "OK, tell me about it". And he explained HIS production enginering job, not any sort of specialty engineering analysis work. I pointed this out to him, and said, "No, that's your job, my job is to do special analysis work to support your production work, not do your production work. I'll be happy to help you as much as I can with special analysis if you need some."
He was pleasant and left. I picked up the phone and called a friend who worked in this new black engineer's department. I started to explain that he had visited me, and my friend immediately started laughing and said, "Did he try to get you to do his job, too?" When I said yes, he laughed again, and said "His idea of his job is to tell other people to do stuff, not actually do any engineering work himself. He's been trying to get us to do his work, and we tell him that we have our own work. He just doesn't get it."
The valedictorian lasted about 8 months before I heard that he "had moved on to another job". He was apparently not going to do any engineering work, or very possibly, was incapable of doing it, even though he had earned the valedictorian spot at a historically black college. It was funny at the time and ultimately sad for him. He had set himself up to fail, for certain.

How much of this will it take for corporations to eliminate the Diversity Department?

Poster #1: Required to hire - hard to fire. Most time, if the name on a resume looks like a Scrabble puzzle, it would go right in the round file. Too much trouble.

Please forgive my 2nd post but it occurred to me that poster 7's tale is EXACTLY like mine. In my case, the female POC couldn't even explain to a new department head what her function was. I quote here: 'I tell them what to do'. Most unpleasant conditions for all of us.

A "black finance worker." It has not been proven she did any work so that description may be an exaggeration.

Civil rights used to be about treating everyone the same. But today some people are so used to special treatment that equal treatment is considered to be discrimination.

This is why so many businesses are reluctant to hire many minorities. They wear a chip on their shoulder, and don't you dare expect them to do the job you want them to do. She wasn't even a full fledged investment banker thankfully or there could have been real trouble. I am sorry that businesses are having such a hard time firing incompetent people. Used to be that was no problem, but now it is some form of bias on the part of the business.

Oh My MakaMaka! PC totally gone crazy and insanely out of control! This loser should've been terminated immediately for poor work ethics and lack of team participation. Company should start hiring based on "At Will" employment policy.

It does more harm than good to allow someone with a poor work record recover lost wages. At least they were not forced to re-hire her.
