New York—A statue of Thomas Jefferson will be removed from the New York City Council’s chambers at City Hall, a commission voted on Monday. During an hours-long hearing, the New York City Public Design Commission acknowledged the statue needs to be removed before the end of the year, however, a new location has yet to be determined.(Snip)The City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian caucus has long objected to its presence because Jefferson wasn’t just a U.S. president or a founding father, he was also a lifelong slave owner. Assemblymember Charles Barron and his wife, City Councilmember Inez Barron, led the fight to remove the statue.

The statue has been there since 1833, but that doesn't matter because this now a bLACK and Latinx nation, and the statue depicts a White man. Meanwhile, the city and state of New York are named in honor of the Duke of York, who made his fortune trading slaves. Who will the state and city now be named for? Al Sharpton, Gay Barry? Ru Paul? The possibilities are endless.

The arch in the city's Washington Square Park features that old cracker George Washington, who owned many more slaves than Discredited Thomas Jefferson did. Get out the bulldozers, boys.

Obviously Jefferson should be erased from this country’s history. There will have to be a lot of name changes…Missouri’s capital city for one but there are maybe hundreds or thousands other things named in his honor.

Homeland Security reported another 192,001 encounters with illegal immigrants on the southwestern border in September, topping off one of the worst fiscal years on record. The monthly total marked a slight decline from July and August, which Customs and Border Protection touted as a needed improvement. But the numbers were still startlingly bad for an administration that insists it has things under control along the boundary with Mexico. Fiscal year 2021 ended with 1.7 million encounters with illegal immigrants. Nearly all of those came on the watch of President Biden, and security experts attribute the number to policy changes and a lack of enforcement since his inauguration.

As Lowry sees it, it’s a fool’s game to overestimate Trump’s dominance of the Republican Party this far in advance of the 2024 election. Lowry writes, in an op-ed posted by The New York Post on Friday, that Republican politicians who think the Republican Party belongs to Trump can be forgiven, given that he not only survived two impeachments and the January 6 attack against the U.S. Capitol; he has since continued to thrive.
