A movie prop masters union has told members it was a live round and not a blank that Alec Baldwin fired at a female cinematographer on Thursday in New Mexico, killing her and wounding the movie's director in a tragic on-set accident. Halyna Hutchins, 42, died shortly after being shot by Baldwin around 1.50pm Thursday at Bonanza Creek Ranch, near the city of Santa Fe in New Mexico, where they were filming the movie Rust. Joel Souza, 48, the film's director, was also hurt and spent several hours in hospital, but was released later the same evening. Police have disclosed few details about the shooting, saying only that

So much for anti-Second Amendment Alec. “A projectile was fired”…. Doesn’t know enough to check any gun to be sure it is not loaded, etc., etc. And why was he pointing it at the cinematographer? You don’t point at anything you don’t want to kill. (Hear that, Lt. Michael Leroy Byrd, Capitol Police?)

I can't believe that movie sets using firearms ever allow live ammunition on any set with real actors present. This would be insanity. The crews may be getting sloppy but are not that stupid. If there was live ammunition on the set it was because someone broke the rules intentionally.

My comment on a previous article said that this seemed unlikely to be a blank, more likely a live round. Now...how in hell did a live round get on set, and into a gun?

Simple explanation is that it wasn't a "prop" gun, rather, someone's personal protection firearm. That would explain the information blackout too.

You never ever point a gun at someone unless they're a threat. You ALWAYS personally check the gun to make sure it's unloaded and safe. Baldwin, being an anti-gun, anti 2nd amendment 'expert', who can tell the gun owners of the America how foolish we are to have or want guns, needs to be prosecuted. But because he's a darling of the left for his lame portrails of President Trump, he'll get a light slap on the wrist.

Correction: Baldwin did not ACCIDENTALLY kill Halyna Hutchins but NEGLIGENTLY. There can be no quesiton that he did not intend her death or even intend to shoot a live round, but the pointing of the weapon at her was INTENTIONAL and therefore NEGLIGENT. There might be a good case for manslaughter here, and the woman's family will have a certain wrongful death action against the star.

A) It was/is a western movie, circa 1880's, all guns would be single action pistols, a lever rifle, or a dbl barrel hammer shotgun. B) they were filming inside a church, cameras and such were outside filming through windows, as well as inside C) IF it were part of a scene? It is ALL on film. D) might be malicious rumor but...supposedly 'someone on the crew' has reported that they had asked him to do another Take of a scene, to which he responded, "Another TAKE?, I oughta just F'n shoot both of you...pointed the gun at them, then pulled the trigger"

As a period piece, western type film a person's 'personal protection firearm' would stand out visually like a sore thumb. Sort of like a 1998 Corvette in a movie set in 1920s Chicago. More importantly, a live round is completely different looking than a blank. There shouldn't be a single live round on a movie set, EVER. Someone - likely more than one person - is in BIG trouble.

They're working with guns. Didn't they stop, and check it? People make mistakes. Even if someone else checked the gun, I would still check it personally. A room full of people can all make the same mistake. It happens. This sounds like everybody flunked gun safety. The props people. Baldwin. Even the people that were shot. Dumb question time...how easy is it to spot live rounds versus blanks?

Sounds like Baldwin violated fundamental gun safety rules. Also, the armorer was apparently negligent. You’d think movie set armorers would be required to undergo extensive training and on-set job shadowing with a certified, experienced armorer before being hired by a production company.

“ But it remains unclear how a blank could have killed Hutchins…” I wonder how close Baldwin was to Hutchins. Some of you may remember that actor Heath Ledger killed himself with a prop gun which was loaded with a blank. He was joking around on the set, picked up the gun, pointed at his own head and pulled the trigger. The force of the blast killed him. If Baldwin was really close to her, the same thing may have happened.

A live pistol cartridge looks very different from a blank pistol cartridge. Easily visually distinguished. Here's the comparison of a handgun blank vs a .45 Colt live cartridge, the most common caliber in "old west" handguns in movies. https://image.sportsmansguide.com/adimgs/l/1/100142i_ts.jpg https://image.sportsmansguide.com/adimgs/l/1/13969i_ts.jpg However, a blank shotgun shell looks essentially identical to a live shotgun shell. This would be a more easily understood human error if the gun in question turns out to be a shotgun.

Somebody has to be blamed, according to Alec the Idiot it's the NRA's fault. Realizing it's a western it was possible they were using period correct firearms like single action pistols and lever action Winchester types. Very different from modern autoloaders or modern firearms. It takes a whole different skill to master them. I don't believe that was a blank to enter one person killing them and injuring another no blank could do that. I especially enjoyed the interview with the whiz bang other actor, "like she told me to pick a gun" like now pull the hammer back (that's a single action) and like pull the trigger, "like it was weird" like wow how stupid is this nerd. Sounds like Kamala Harris speaking. Now that Baldwin has a body count maybe PTSD you better not take his parking spot in New York or he'll blow you away and raise the notches on his six-shooter along with his body count. My sympathy meter for Alec Baldwin won't move but I feel sorry for the victim though.

At a minimum we appear to have involuntary manslaughter. Did he point the gun at these people? Did he voluntarily pull the trigger? Things could escalate from there... Possibly he was just examining the "prop" and it accidentally discharged. That's the least culpable scenario. Tragic for everyone involved and their families Very sad.

Why would anyone with brains trust him with anything but a squirt gun? With special effects these days, why does any actor have to shoot a real gun? Just give him a dummy gun, and dub in the sound.

RE: Movie sets, Gun safety I have been on 5 movie sets, and LOTS of protections and protocols were in place, even on "The Crow" where Brandon Lee was killed, I had a friend working on that set, it was verrry complicated because there were a LOT of actors, stunt folks, dozens of people all running around, in/out, all shooting at the same time, my friend can be seen in the re-cut/re-shot/released version getting "killed" several times, wearing very slightly different clothes. It's frik'n hilarious to watch it with him on video with the pause button.."Look here I am, bang I'm dead, then..here I come in from the left, bang I'm dead, now coming in the window, bang I'm dead...now from the left again, bang I'm dead...here I am on the right, bang I'm dead..all within about a minute" That said... On the John Wick films, each one setting a new "Body Count" record, actor Keanu Reeves has become a REAL gun expert, very accomplished shooter, trains constantly...and ALWAYS exhibits gun safety protocols on screen, muzzle control, trigger finger control, checks the chamber every time he handles a weapon, and every time he reloads.

I don't believe this is the first time Alec Baldwin has handled a gun on a movie set, so he knows better. As I stated on a previous thread, and #14 mentions, he should be charged with manslaughter, at a minimum, and assault with a deadly weapon (against the director). He surely will face a lawsuit for wrongful death. Now, he gets to ponder the question he posted years ago about what it must feel like to accidentally kill someone.

Blanks can do damage at close range. You can bet Baldwin was blaming someone else the second the gun went off. The first thing he does is ask why someone gave him a loaded gun. Why was he pointing a gun at someone with his finger on the trigger when they weren't even shooting a scene? He was talking to the director and the person responsible for shooting the movie. They were probably within a few feet of each other.

However, they were not using union prop masters for tis production - they were using local works for the area they were in. The gun wrangler is required to have a special Federal license and is responsible for every firearm on set. When not being used in a scene, firearms are supposed to be locked and he is the only one with access. Even when used, actors are supposed to aim to the side of their target, but seems like this entire production was a mess and that Baldwin was a big part of that. He could kill one and injure another with one shot if the bullet passed through the victim. If it is true that he 'pretended' to shoot her or the director because someone asked for another take, that is the definition of negligent homicide.

FTA: "It remains unconfirmed if it was a live round or a blank that was fired; a prop masters' union described it on Friday morning as a 'live round' and Baldwin was heard asking people around him why he'd been handed a 'hot gun'." Regardless of the projectile, the fact remains that Badwin knowingly placed his finger inside of the trigger guard of a handgun, pointed it toward the camera director, which indicates his actions were a gross misuse of a firearm and not a scripted part of the film, and pulled the trigger. Those three things were not accidents but were more ignorant horseplay with a firearm that resulted in death. The "trigger finger" or pointer, is the single most important "safety" on any gun and that finger should never enter the trigger guard and touch the trigger until you intend and are clear to shoot something or someone downrange. Even the kids of pacifists have grown up hearing "consider every gun loaded" enough times for it to be a part of our popular culture. Baldwin is why leftists should never be around guns, knives, or matches.

Two thoughts, after reading the article and the comments: 1) Baldwin strikes me as extremely arrogant, precisely the type of person who believes 'the rules don't apply to me'..... including gun safety rules. 2) Hard Nard (#53) had the same thought as I did. There apparently was some ...er....disagreement with Union people leaving the set and Non-Union people coming on set to replace them. I would not....for ONE SECOND....put it past a Union thug to do a little 'sabotage'. I know this might sound a little strong..... but go back to the headline..."Prop masters union claims". In a situation like this, I would not be at all surprised if some Union type decided to either do a bit of sabotage, or on the other hand plant a 'story' that just MIGHT lead to a narrative that makes Union production mandatory..... for 'Safety'. But....this is all speculation on my part. Let's see what other information comes out over the next week or two.

Labor contracts got broken, union rules got violated, scabs got hired, and safety went out the window. Why? Because it was Baldwin's money at stake, and rules are for the little people. In other words, when push came to shove, Baldwin turned into the craven, lawless money-maker that he's always accusing everyone else of being.

When I took the training class for my CCP permit, the very first thing they taught us was what to do when you are about to touch a given firearm is to say (if it is a person handing it to you) "may I see the action". If you are picking it up yourself, you first open and then inspect the action yourself. The action is that part of the firearm that holds the cartridges (a cartridge is a shell, packed with gunpowder, capped with a bullet or a "blank"). It is a round chamber on a revolver, a magazine and slide assembly on most automatics. Once the action is opened, you can remove/inspect the cartridges from it, to see what you will actually be firing - blanks (usually cotton or cardboard at the end of the cartridge) or live rounds (metal balls, aka the "bullet", at the end of the cartridge). You always ask to see the action, opened, and inspect it yourself, before touching the firearm. Always. If there is no one to open the action, you open it. If you do not know how to open it, Do not touch it. That said, I do not know if Mr. Baldwin has such training, but regardless, I will have compassion for him - he will have to carry this around for the rest of his days.

Doctors across the country are expressing shock and outrage after the Biden regime shut off distribution of monoclonal antibodies, preventing them from treating patients infected with the Delta coronavirus with the life-saving therapeutic. In a letter addressed to Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra Tuesday, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo accused the Biden administration of “actively preventing the effective distribution of monoclonal antibody treatments,” undermining Florida’s strategy to handle the disease. The Biden administration paused shipments of the monoclonal antibodies because according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the treatment isn’t effective against Omicron, which they claim became the dominant strain earlier this month.

COVID-19 vaccine mandates “have to be repealed” as the vaccines are “still in research” and “people cannot be mandated to participate in research,” says Dr. Peter McCullough. McCullough, a cardiologist, epidemiologist, and internist who manages COVID-19 patients with heart-related complications and patients who become ill after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, contends that COVID-19 vaccine mandates violate the Nuremberg Code. “When it comes to research, research can only be voluntary. The U.S. Constitution is the sacred text of American government and civic life. But it’s time to face facts: The document, written in 1787, isn’t working. The signs are all around us. Just 38 percent of Americans in a recent Gallup poll expressed either a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the presidency, down from 48 percent in 2001. Congress, never high in the public’s estimation to begin with, fell from 26 percent to a mere 12 percent. The Supreme Court has also taken a hit, down from 50 percent to 36 percent during the same period.
