It seems the Biden administration will listen to the public when the rejection of their ideas is clear and loud. On April 19, 2021, the Department of Education (DOE) proposed a new regulation to promote culturally responsive teaching and information literacy skills under the American History and Civics Education programs. Jeff Bezos announced he is giving away $100 million each to activist Van Jones and humanitarian José Andrés during a press conference Tuesday morning following his ten minute space flight with his company Blue Origin.
At the end of the press conference, Bezos said, “I have a little surprise for you. I am announcing today, a new philanthropic initiative … The Courage and Civility Award. It recognizes leaders who aim high, and who pursue solutions with courage, and who always do so with civility.”
Bezos said that “we should question ideas, not the person. … We need unifiers and not vilifiers.
An American born to a 17-year-old mother, adopted at the age of 4 by her newly wedded Cuban immigrant husband and raised in middle-class circumstances in Texas and Florida, gave a valedictory speech at his high school graduation speech in 1982. His goal in life, Jeff Bezos said, was to colonize space.

In news that’s flying below the radar a bit, more evidence of just how corrupt and compromised the FBI has become emerged today.
You may recall the much-ballyhooed plot to supposedly kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last year. Arrests were made in October of 2020, with the claim being that the FBI had stopped the kidnapping plot as well as a plan to overthrow the government. After it came out in the weeks following the bust that one of the participants was anti-Trump and a Black Lives Matter supporter, the story quickly died down.

Last week, the CEO of Black Rifle Coffee, Evan Hafer, gave a long-form interview to Jason Zengerle for the New York Times Magazine. I don’t know what he expected to achieve by the exercise, but I’m pretty certain that what he accomplished represented a significant deviation from the plan.
The piece framed Black Rifle Coffee as a “Starbucks for conservatives” and promoted the piece by saying that the company was trying to distance itself from some of its customers. Note that Black Rifle Coffee retweeted this tweet and that usually means that the tweet met with the approval of the person sending it:

Capitol protester sentenced to eight months

Paul Allard Hodgkins, one of the protesters who stormed the Capitol on January 6, received his sentence today. Judge Randolph Moss, an Obama appointee, sentenced Hodgkins to eight months. This is the first felony sentence handed down in connection with the events of January 6.
The felony, to which Hodgkins entered a guilty plea, is obstructing a congressional proceeding. He carried a large “Trump 2020” flag onto the floor of the U.S. Senate near the presiding officer’s desk.
The prosecution sought a sentence of 18 months for Hodgkins. That sentence would have been far too harsh. Hodgkins didn’t engage is violent conduct and reportedly he had no previous criminal history.
Project Veritas published a video featuring a packaging engineer from Hasbro, one of the country’s largest toymakers. It contained some wild claims and cast white children as inherently racist. David Johnson shared internal Hasbro training materials based on critical race theory. The training was mandatory for all employees. The trainers discussed how Hasbro could use product development to infuse anti-racist messages into toys. According to the website of “The Conscious Kid,” the organization that provided the training:

Days of outrage over multiple comments regarding the removal of COVID-19 posts prompted a U-turn of sorts by Ms. Psaki on Tuesday.
“We’ve not asked Facebook to block any individual posts,” the Democrat told reporters when pressed for details on its relationship with Facebook. “The way this works is that there are trends that are out there on social media platforms.
