San Francisco is famous for its tech trend-setting, but here's a different kind of trend-setting now that it's got a leftist prosecutor who won't do his job:
Shopping from behind locked glass-case barriers. Not just some goods, but now, all the goods..
Here's what appears to be a citizen video, from someone trying to get the attention of the local press, of the Safeway supermarket at Church and Market in an area between the Mission district and the Castro district. (Snip for tweet) Obviously, this is an attempt to thwart shoplifters, given the retail theft free-for-all going on in that city. The problem didn't just crop up out

Is it like this in every aisle or just that one?
Because stores have been putting health & beauty items behind glass for years in high crime areas.

Might I suggest double doors with roll down cage steel bars? WHEN the Lefty Mob shows up wait until they are inside, then lock the outside doors...when they try to get out, lock the second set of doors behind them.
Then tell the cops you are gonna follow their prosecution to the end!

FTA: ''As Boudin faces a voter recall, and 40% of San Francisco's residents say they plan to move out...''
By 'moving out' I hope you mean a different California city. You elected these commies, so I prefer you stay the hell out of Florida.

Tell me who shoplifts a Gucci purse?
A poor hungry person eats leather?
Or are they just genetic thieves?

San Franciscans voted for this mess, they should have to live with it. Even a circus pin-head could see that nothing good would come from electing a D.A. born of two convicted felons (Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert), reared by two unrepentant leaders of the terrorist Weather Underground (Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn), and an admirer of Hugo Chavez.

Hey Chesa, with all that radical money you have acquired, try fixing the gap between your front teeth. Hard to take you seriously when you look like you just came from a dumpster dive.

My niece talked to a retired couple who moved from San Francisco to a small town in Kentucky (2,500) people. They sold everything and bought a nice house. They told her that high crime, high taxes and constantly being "told what to do" did them in. They are happy here and are NOT going to vote Democratic.

Locking up the goods instead of the thieves is the same as disarming the law abiding instead of the
gang-bangers. We're far more compliant - so far.

Unfortunately, the thieves will just bring a brick and continue their rampage after breaking the glass.

Stores will have to triple the number of employees to follow customers around to unlock each item needed or have a waiting area until an employee is available to help each customer much like waiting for a prescription.
Secondly, once the thieves figure out the system, what's to keep them from bolting once they have items in their basket? The problem is lack of prosecution.

Are you aware that " Chesa " is named after everyones favorite convicted and escaped murderer Joannne Chesimard. She's living in Cuba. " Chesa" is the stepson of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn ( Weather Underground ) his mother ( Katherine Boudin) went to prison for her murder.........Weather Underground member too.

next step for Safeway would be to go back to the 50's. 2 doors, one marked whites, the other marked blacks, and that door opens to a competitor.

LOL #17. Years ago before my time, there were not self-service grocery stores. You gave a clerk a list of what you wanted and walked to the back and got what you wanted. Once phones became common the stores also started delivering. I can still remember my grandmother phoning in her grocery list and in less than an hour, a guy in a pickup brought her order.
Maybe that's where we are headed again. I did notice one of our Walmarts has small stuff like razors locked up or packaged in bulky anti-theft cases. The clerk told me that people stole them to sell at flea markets. This in a small, mostly low-crime city in Georgia.

Just close the stores & leave.
That is the only thing that will work!

I remember when Flint Mi turned lawless. Good people, and goods, when behind secure and bulletproof cages, while the criminals wilded the streets.

While they're at it, they should lock themselves behind glass cases, Planet of the Apes-style Put a little placard on the cages. Homo Socialist.

Just build a wall around each and every blue state. Then dig a moat around each wall. Then stock the moat with alligators.
