Tax officials must give former President Donald Trump’s tax returns to a congressional panel, the Department of Justice said Friday.
The House Ways and Means Committee has long sought the returns, only to be stymied by federal officials.
Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.), chairman of the panel, has said he wanted six years of Trump’s tax returns as part of a possible adjustment of federal law concerning tax policies.
The attempt was blocked by the Treasury Department during the Trump administration.
The Department of Justice previously said that refusal did not violate

President Pop Pop’s had a very bad week, so here’s the politicized DOJ to try to change the subject, and give the Sunday talk shows something else to focus on. Trump is the Democrats ‘squirrel!’

For the umpteenth time this week: the DOJ is nt our judiciary! They have no role in this. They are trying to convince the. country that whatever they say is the law of the land, but i sure hope most Americans are not that stupid.

That a congressional committee needs ONE individuals private tax information to "Review/ ReWrite Overhaul Overall Universal Federal Tax Policy, which is supposed to be equal to all"...is total BS. His are the ONLY ones they are chasing, no federal tax policy should ever be written to target ONE individual. IF they were truly interested that there might be some loopholes they should plug that allows the Rich to bypass standard taxation...they need Joe's, Hunters, Pelosi's, Bezo's and Zuck's...as well as Soro's and Slim's.

DoJ can pack sand. Their opinions are not legally binding, and should be ignored.

Garland is showing his true colors and they aren't Red, White and Blue.
If the Republicans did nothing else right while Obama was President they kept this clown off the Supreme Court.

I would rather see AOC tax return and bank account. President Trump was a billionaire before he entered public office. AOC probably didn't have $20,000 to her name before she entered public office.

Can any liberal with a shred of integrity (impossible by definition) say they would not howl in protest if Lightbringer Hussein was subjected to this?

Maybe ask for Planet Abrams tax returns too! I’m wondering how she paid her loans, house, and back taxes off, as well as buying a multimillion dollar house…

#9, I'd like to see the entire House and Senate on both sides of the aisle subjected to the same scrutiny.

IMHO this is a good thing, a precedent has been set. Now some elected conservatives need to demand Bidens, Pelosi, etc tax returns. As someone stated a while back, "why investigate someone who came onto the political scene as a billionaire, investigate those that came in with basically nothing and are now multi-millionaires".

Regarding release of President Trump's federal income tax returns:
At the end of his 33 page "Slip Opinion" (no date of issuance) Assistant Attorney General, Stephen A Engle, of the Office of General Counsel, concluded at the most directly relevant sentence, as follows:
"For these reasons, we advised that the Committee’s request for the
President’s tax information under 26 U.S.C. § 6103(f) should be denied.
Congress could not constitutionally confer upon the Committee the right
to compel disclosure by the Executive Branch of confidential information
that did not serve a legitimate legislative purpose."
Most of his 33 page opinion explained why the request for President's tax returns did not state any "legitimate legislative purpose."
The article includes:
"In our judicial system, ‘the public has a right to every man’s evidence.’ Since the earliest days of the Republic, ‘every man’ has included the president of the United States,” Chief Justice John Roberts, a George W. Bush nominee, said at the time."
The article includes no context surrounding Robert's statement, above. President Trump's tax returns are not "his evidence." The quote is an absurdity as a general proposition. This dispute is currently not within "our judicial system." And there are millions of instances in our judicial system where the pubic has no right whatsoever to see all, some, or any part of what constitutes "evidence."

If the Democrats want to see a Presidents tax returns in order to formulate policy, they can ask Joe Biden for his. I am sure that he will be more than happy to release the past 8 years of his taxes (every page, form, and deduction) to the Congress for review. In the interest of transparency, Biden should also release Hunters taxes along with all related forms. Why waste time studying the past President when they can do a real life case study!

Speaking of tax laws, does anyone know if the bartender from the Bronx has paid off her student loans? Since she now is driving a $60,000 Tesla I think we have a right to know.

If a Trump DOJ were doing things like this the media and every jurist and every Dem politician would be screaming about how the DOJ is supposed to watch out for the rights of the People, not operate as a policing arm of the Dem/Left Party.
disgusting. He would have been horrid on the Court, but he is doing extreme harm right where he is... getting revenge? evil
