Rising prices are putting increasing pressure on President Biden and the Federal Reserve to prevent inflation from derailing the recovery from the coronavirus recession. A surge of consumer demand unleashed by government stimulus, improving vaccinations and fewer pandemic restrictions is putting a strain on global supply chains. Manufacturers and other hard-hit industries are struggling to get back up and running after a year of lockdown measures, causing supply shortages and raising costs. All of those factors combined to push the consumer price index (CPI) up 0.8 percent in April and 4.2 percent over the past 12 months, the fastest annual rate since 2008

I’m sure most readers have seen this stunning photo from Israel from a few nights back, showing a Hamas rocket attack that was likely attempting to overwhelm Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile defense system. The early reports on this photo didn’t make clear which was which; I assumed (correctly it turns out) that the missiles on the right are the Hamas rockets, and the unusual swirl pattern of the launches on the left are the Iron Dome interceptors. I have no technical expertise in the domain of missile defense, but the spatial pattern of the Iron Dome is probably explained as the complex

On Sunday, about a week into a budding war between Israel and Palestine, a CNN contributor in Pakistan by the name of Adeel Raja declared, “The world today needs a Hitler.” Raja has a long history of supporting the late Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, sometimes explicitly mentioning what Hitler did to the Jews — a reference to the unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust.
Raja has deleted the tweet, but Greg Price and Benny Johnson kept the receipts. CNN has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
“The world today needs a Hitler,” Raja posted on Twitter Sunday afternoon.

Thick black smoke billowed into the air Sunday after a train derailed in northwest Iowa, prompting authorities to evacuate part of a small, nearby town.
The fiery derailment happened early Sunday afternoon on the southwest edge of Sibley, which is a town of about 3,000 people roughly 200 miles northwest of Des Moines.
Photos and video of the derailment posted online Sunday show about 30 train cars piled up along the tracks with flames and a large plume of smoke coming from one end of the pile of cars.

Remember the old 1970s sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter"? It aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979. The president of the United States throughout half that period was the infamous peanut-farmer-turned-worst-president-ever Jimmy Carter.
Perfect timing. Because 2021 is clearly the new 1977.
The new version of that sitcom is "Welcome Back, Carter. Except Add Dementia." It stars our current president, Joe "Basement" Biden, as today's hapless, pathetic, destructive Jimmy Carter.
Basement Biden and Jimmy Carter are alike in so many ways it's almost surreal.

However, we’ve increased wages, enhanced employment incentives like a $500 sign-on bonus and introduced dozens of new full-time, year-round positions. The Democratic mayor of Portland, Oregon, said he is 'grateful' to President Joe Biden for rescinding Donald Trump's order allowing an influx of federal agents to help quell riots that gripped the city last summer.
The executive order, issued in July, directed agents to protect monuments, statues and federal property as violent mobs ransacked Oregon's largest city following demonstrations sparked by George Floyd's murder.
The order is one of several issued by Trump that Biden has now rescinded, prompting Mayor Ted Wheeler to tweet: 'Thankful for the support of the current administration.'

Rhode Island Democrat David Cicilline is asking colleagues to sign on to a resolution that would censure three House Republicans for trying to minimize the events surrounding the January 6 riot at the Capitol.
Censure is a very serious matter. Only expulsion from Congress would be a worse punishment. If Democrats are going to censure Republicans for downplaying what happened on 1/6, what should the punishment be for hysterically overexaggerating what happened at the riot?
Cicilline said the Republicans — Reps. Andrew Clyde (Ga.), Jody Hice (Ga.), and Paul Gosar (Ariz.) — claimed the riot was not an insurrection and engaged in other efforts to undermine the “damage that was done.”

President Joe Biden will reverse former President Donald Trump’s policy to require immigrants to have the means to pay for health care so they would not rely on government programs, he said during a meeting with so-called Dreamers on Friday.Fox News reported on the policy reversal: The 2019 order denied visas to those seeking entry into the U.S. who were deemed a “financial burden” on the health care system. Biden, in a proclamation announcing the rollback, said the policy did not “advance the interests” of the nation. Aging hippies have a penchant for recalling the 1960s as some amazing, idyllic moment in time. As Jonah Goldberg writes in Liberal Fascism, it’s “bizarre how many people remember the 1960s as a time of ‘unity’ and ‘hope’ when it was, in reality, a time of rampant domestic terrorism, campus tumult, assassinations, and riots.”
Goldberg hits the nail squarely on the head when appraising why aging hippies feel that way. Their “liberal nostalgia” for the 1960s is more about a longing “for victory” than an interest in “unity.” Leftists love the 1960s for the same reason that they love the 1930s, a decade also marred by “political unrest, intense labor violence,

The social media and mainstream media outlets from which most Americans get their news are engaged in a blackout of anything Donald Trump says. This is shocking, to say the least, but Trump is doing his best to circumvent the censorship. Thankfully, it appears that he’ll also be launching his own social media platform around July 4. As I noted, I think he should do something a lot bigger than that, but this is a start.
In the meantime, Trump has his slightly buggy “desk,” which he uses to communicate with America.

I’ve always had great respect for our legal system. It’s as good as any of which I’m aware. No, I’m not naive. I’m fully aware that every institution depends on the competence and integrity of those involved and that means sometimes decisions are rendered that are wrong -- muddy thinking and sometimes corrupt judges; self-seeking prosecutors; incompetent counsel; bad and poorly written laws; false testimony by liars -- all contribute now and then to unjust resolutions. But in recent years, my faith has been even more badly shaken by continued and obvious corruption all the way down the line.

They're a bad memory for Americans old enough to remember the 1970s - but they're also likely causing a few sleepless nights in the White House, as the United States' economic recovery from the unprecedented coronavirus recession hits some bumps. The jolts are dampening consumer confidence, ramping up inflation fears, and helping Republicans build their case against President Joe Biden and his ambitious plans to revamp the U.S. economy with trillions in new spending. As the 1970s show, high joblessness and rising prices the United States saw in April can be a potent political force.

Police in Northern California have arrested three social activists on charges that they vandalized the former home of a police expert witness after he testified on behalf of fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin during his murder trial in the death of George Floyd. The arrests Tuesday in Santa Rosa were in connection with the targeting in mid-April of the onetime residence of defense use-of-force witness and retired police officer Barry Brodd. Pig's blood was smeared on the house in Santa Rosa, north of San Francisco, and a pig's head was left there. Police were quick to conclude that the thousands of dollars

Eric Clapton has hit out at 'propaganda' over vaccine safety, claiming he suffered alarming side effects after his Covid jabs. The legendary guitarist, a lockdown sceptic, said his hands and feet became 'useless'–prompting fears he would never play again. In a message to his music producer, he said: 'I took the first jab of AZ [AstraZeneca] and straight away had severe reactions which lasted ten days.' The 76-year-old said he 'recovered eventually' but suffered further 'disastrous reactions' six weeks later after the second shot. He added: 'My hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks,

MINNEAPOLIS, MN- On Wednesday, May 12th, attorneys for former Minneapolis Police Officer Tou Thao filed a motion asking the court to sanction prosecutors for failing to disclose information about the coercion of a specific witness. [Tweet] According to reports, Bob Paule, one of Thao’s attorneys claimed that the Hennepin County medical examiner, Dr. Andrew Baker, was coerced to include “neck compression” in his findings and that the prosecutors knew of it.
The motion also asked the judge to kick the attorney general off of the case for prosecutorial misconduct. Reportedly, activity had picked up for the impending joint trial this coming August of former Minneapolis Police Officers

In a twist worthy of Mark Twain himself, a St. John’s University professor has been fired for reading a passage containing the N-word from Twain’s anti-slavery novel “Pudd’nhead Wilson” in her “Literature of Satire” class.
Hannah Berliner Fischthal, an adjunct instructor at the Catholic college in Queens for 20 years, uttered the N-word once during a remote class Feb. 10—after she first explained to students the context of the word and said she hoped it would not offend anyone.(Snip) The day after the class, however, she got an email from a student who said she had to “abruptly” leave

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., told her followers on Instagram that she will keep wearing her mask in "shared indoor public spaces" even though she is fully vaccinated.
"NYC got hit so hard that I think some of us are going to take time adjusting as we feel comfortable," the New York Democrat wrote on her Instagram story.
"Personally I'm going to keep wearing my mask in shared indoor public spaces like elevators, subway, grocery store, etc.," she said.

With COVID vaccination "rollouts" ongoing, it would seem the angelic host of Big Pharma has swooped in to avert the end of the world, triumphing in the nick of time over a super-lethal, super-contagious, super-pandemic...with a whopping 0.15% infection fatality rate. (Snip) COVID-19 may mark not the end, but the dawn of an age in which mankind will be constantly and inescapably peppered with custom-engineered viruses of all kinds. A great many of these will go by the name "vaccine."

Prince Harry seemed determined to outdo Meghan Markle on the obnoxious celebrity front.
The oafish royal on the lam from his U.K. duties, who's now set up shop here to live the billionaire lifestyle, is now, like a lot of them, telling us how to run our country. He's calling our First Amendment 'bonkers.'
Kid you not.
According to the London Spectator (hat tip: Daily Caller), citing a podcast interview that Prince Harry made with the Davos-like Aspen Institute:
I’ve got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers. I don’t want to start going down the

Is planting misleading innuendo about oneself a good tool to sell the services of an information provider? In what other product category does one openly debase the quality as a means of gathering attention? Tucker Carlson, whose viewership is more than 4 times that of Don Lemon’s, likes to characterize the CNN host as stupid. That label certainly applies to the publicity stunt trick Lemon pulled on Friday night:
“CNN Tonight” anchor Don Lemon announced Friday that “this will be the last night” of the show he’s hosted since 2014 (snip) "I’ll be back on Monday with my newly named show Don Lemon Tonight. See you Monday at 10pE."

The biggest loser from the ongoing Hamas rocket barrage is not Israel. It’s Mahmoud Abbas.
He was already losing before Hamas opened fire. He is now down and out. A totally irrelevant figure in the recent unrest.
What was the spark that lit both the violence on the Arab street and the Hamas rockets? It was the decision of Mahmoud Abbas to, once again, call for a Palestinian election. What else is new? He has been doing it regularly ever since he lost the initial Palestinian election in 2006.

Plant-based and additional meatless products are accused of misleading buyers under a bill the Texas House approved Monday.
“Texas is the latest state to debate measures that would prohibit foods that don’t contain animal products from using words like ‘meat’ or ‘beef’ in their name,” the Dallas Morning News reported.
The bill was approved following a debate but needs one additional vote in the House to move on to the Texas Senate.
According to Rep. Brad Buckley, his bill would help protect consumers, including vegetarians and vegans, from purchasing a product by mistake.

I’m biased, because I know Antonio Garcia-Martinez and something like the same thing once happened to me, but the decision by Apple to bend to a posse of internal complainers and fire him over a passage in a five-year-old book is ridiculous hypocrisy. Hypocrisy by the complainers, and defamatory cowardice by the bosses — about right for the Invasion of the Body Snatchers-style era of timorous conformity and duncecap monoculture the woke mobs at these places are trying to build as their new Jerusalem.

A new report has found that Hollywood’s culture of bullying, abusive behavior, and employee mistreatment continues unabated despite high-profile scandals that have drawn widespread attention to the problem.
Anita Hill’s Hollywood Commission reportedly released additional findings of its most recent survey on Friday, saying that assistants still bear the brunt of executive misbehavior, experiencing two to three times more bullying behavior than other types of workers.
“Nowhere in Hollywood is the stark power differential more visible than between executives and their assistants. That dynamic drives higher levels of abuse among assistants across all kinds of entertainment work,” the study said, according to multiple reports.

Saturday concludes National Police Week of 2021. While Biden had initially planned to fly the flags at half-mast today--which should be expected of him--he quietly changed his mind in an update to the original proclamation. As Landon reported, this comes after the president had already canceled former President Donald Trump's plan for the "National Garden of American Heroes." (Tweet) Conservatives also used this week to call Democrats out for their defund the police mantra, as well as their hypocrisy for using police as private security, like Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), as Spencer reported.

As we previously reported, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) took out a building that they said contained Hamas military intelligence operation.
It also contained offices for the Associated Press and Al Jazeera, among other media outlets.
Prior to hitting the building, the IDF warned the media outlets and others in the building to get out before they took down the building.
Some in media were upset that Israel took out the building. But as we noted, how could media not know that Hamas had an operation going on in the building, if they were sharing the building with them?

Florida might as well be known as the sixth borough.New data from the Sunshine State’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles offers the latest glimpse of just how many New Yorkers fled south during the COVID-19 pandemic. At least 33,565 New Yorkers exchanged their NY drivers licenses for Florida credentials between September 2020 and March 2021.That’s a 32% increase from the same period the prior year, when 25,370 New York driver’s licenses were traded for Florida ones.Florida officials said a major cause of migration was parents looking to get their kids back in full-time, in-person school.

The New York Times has a remarkable story out this weekend that offers its typical “behind the scenes” construction of how the White House operates—in this case, under President Biden. While the story tries to soften the blows with lots of fluff and filler, it paints a devastating picture of Biden for the careful reader. It explains he has a quick temper, takes a long time to make decisions, and needs to be heavily propped up by staff to function. It reminds us that Biden is indeed a creature of the Senate, where he mostly attended hearings, made speeches, fiddled with legislation, and seldom made

A commander of a U.S. Space Force unit tasked with detecting ballistic missile launches has been fired for comments made during a podcast promoting his new book, which claims Marxist ideologies are becoming prevalent in the United States military.
Lt Col. Matthew Lohmeier, commander of 11th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado, was relieved from his post Friday by Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, the head of Space Operations Command, over a loss of confidence in his ability to lead, Military.com has exclusively learned.
"This decision was based on public comments made by Lt. Col. Lohmeier in a recent podcast," a Space Force spokesperson said
