An Illinois lawmaker this week introduced a proposal that he said is aimed at stopping discrimination in schools based on a student's hair — citing his own experience growing up. State Sen. Mike Simmons, a Democrat from the northside of Chicago, introduced his legislation on Monday. If passed, it would bar schools from having rules against "hairstyles historically associated with race, ethnicity, or hair texture," specifically referring to "hairstyles such as braids, locks, and twists." "No student should be forced to compromise their identity, nor should we continue to allow young people to be traumatized like this in 2021," said Simmons

It is so bold of this Dem pol to bring up hairstyle rules in the schools of Illinois. One might say he has HAIR BALLS in doing so. This is Illinois, people, We have our act so together when it comes to state pensions and budgets and taxes and debt, we really do have time to focus and energy to spend on hairstyles in our schools. HAIRSTYLES! They are so important. Why waste time on all that other stuff? Illinois has such a stellar performance on everything else.
This guy -- not his hairstyle, don't get confused -- is an example of why businesses and people are leaving Illinois in droves. We have the second highest tax burden of any state in the country. We have a massive state pensions problem -- caused by our bloody pols who over-promised and under-funded. And our DARK BLUE government spends money like it is a meth addict with his dope.

It may be stylish in Ethiopia but here it looks unkept and nasty. It probably stays that way for weeks or longer.

The schools main worry is lice. Those tormented hairstyles don’t get washed very often.

Your hair is not your identity. Get a grip. And most kids of school age are very passionate about everything they like or dislike; it's the end of the world if their desires are not affirmed. Tolerating that behavior is harmful enough; but encouraging it is a kind of abuse.
Codes for clothing, hair, accessories, etc. (and severe restrictions on piercings, tatts, and other body-modification practices) are healthy and life-affirming, particularly during a person's formative years.

This is definitely of critical importance. Let’s worry about hair styles, but whether the students are learning anything or can even read. Don’t worry that school unions have used the COVID hype to stay out of work for over a year, but still collect wages and benefits.
Simmons is a typical stupid Democrat, ready to pass a new law, without any understanding of the issues or the resultant effects. Did it not occur to this nitwit that, kids being kids, some will go to extreme hairstyles if there are no rules—like 3 ft diameter Afros, or 10 ft braid weaves, or outlandish colors. This bill will only allow hairstyles to be a distraction in schools.
Where is the bill that will allow principals to fire lazy, high absence, unprofessional teachers.

C'mon, man! Black 'do's that look like flower pots or tumble weeds are great. I once saw a 'do rag' that looked like a noose. That caused me a quick exit.

"No student should be forced to compromise their identity," unless, of course that student is white and must sit through Critical Race Theroy.

I think if Sen. Simmons went to Africa with the hair do he has, they would laugh at him. Many of the "cultural" hair do's that people claim are a part of their ethnic heritage are nothing more than bizarre weaves or sheer laziness. Sen Simmons looks like he has a giant bow on his head. Which part of Ethiopia claims his hairstyle. I did a quick Google search of Ethiopian Hairstyles. They were all either natural afros or neat cornrows. Nothing like the mess on his head.

These people are not aware that African women used cow dung on their hair too, to keep the flies away from their faces. Every day that these complainers wake up, they should thank GOD that they were taken out of Africa.
