Boystown, the nickname dropped by
business leaders in Chicago’s premier
gay neighborhood last year, is
still going strong: ‘It’s always

You could be forgiven for thinking this neighborhood is called Boystown. Up until a few days ago, the banners lining the main north-south artery, Halsted Street, still blared the catchy nickname of Chicago’s signature LGBTQ neighborhood. The rainbow-colored bike racks on the sidewalk say Boystown. Pausing in his work at a local doggy day care to answer a reporter’s questions, Carlos Negrete, 40, put his hand to his heart. (Snip) A younger generation of activists concerned about the inclusion of lesbians, people of color, and transgender and nonbinary Chicagoans cheered: Here was a powerful signal that Boystown wasn’t only for

Comments:

Chicago's gayest neighborhood is scolded for being transphobic and not welcoming non-binary Persons of Color. I wonder if it will end with rainbow flags being burned.

Historically it's only White Males who have every truly valued diversity and sacrificed for people not like them. For the rest of the world, the oppressed just want to be the oppressor, and and the "inclusive" and "diverse" only want to be around people just like them.

It is unfortunate that this district would choose a name associated with one of the most horrific political, pedophile scandals of the 1980s & 1990s. Or, perhaps it was deliberate.

So Chicago's Greenwich Village is changing it's name from the aptly names Boystown to some to be determined name. How about Sodom or Gomorrah? Boystown was an accurate description of the citizens and what occurred there. With the new diversification of the area to include other members of the LGBTQ community they could just call it Alphabet City.

A Pakistani court has overturned the death sentence of a Christian couple in a blasphemy case, acquitting them for lack of evidence after they had spent seven years on death row. A lower court had sentenced Shafqat Emmanuel, a watchman at a factory, and his wife, Shagufta Kausar, to death in 2014 for allegedly sending derogatory remarks about the Muslim Prophet Muhammad in a text message to a local cleric, Khalid Maqsood. Vice President Kamala Harris had one job: Be the woman of color Joe Biden needed at his side to win the presidency. That job was completed in November, and now, it's clear that Harris doesn't know what to do with herself. A New York Times story on Thursday attempted to make something out of Biden's recent announcement that he was appointing Harris to lead his administration's efforts to dismantle all the ways that states organize their elections. (This is often referred to by Democrats and the media as “expanding voter rights.”) "Wow. Sounds like a serious undertaking," you might say.

Crews were at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in south Minneapolis early Thursday working to reopen the intersection to allow traffic to move through the area once more. The intersection, informally known as George Floyd Square, has been the site of a memorial for Floyd since his death at that location more than a year ago. It had been closed to traffic since, and some city officials and community members pushed to reopen the streets due to concerns over access and public safety. KSTP's Ashley Zilka, who is at the scene, reported dozens of city crew members

TULSA, Okla. — The City of Tulsa resumed its search Wednesday of a cemetery for possible victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Crews worked to define the boundaries of a mass-grave feature that was discovered in October at the Oaklawn Cemetery. State archaeologist Kary Stackelbeck said crews were able to locate three of the four corners of the mass-grave feature, giving searchers an overall sense of its dimensions. She said searchers have also determined there are three additional burials in the area, bringing to 15 the number of coffins they’ve found at the site. The search began last year

How old is too old to be a United States senator? Consider, for a moment, the octogenarians in office. Dianne Feinstein, the oldest sitting senator, turns 88 this month. She’s served since 1992. Charles Grassley, three months younger, celebrates his 88th birthday in September. He’s held the job for 40 years. Richard Shelby is 87. James Inhofe is 86. Pat Leahy is 81. The three men have served in the senate for a total of 106 years. And there are plenty more right behind them: Twenty-three members of the Senate are in their 70s; only one is under 40. According

KEOKUK, Iowa — Democrats lost last year's election for Iowa's 2nd Congressional District by the narrowest margin in a House race in almost 40 years. After the six-vote heartbreaker, some expected Democrat Rita Hart to immediately declare a rematch in the southeast district long held by her party. So far, no Democrat has stepped up to run. The hesitancy to jump into a district now as competitive as they come is one measure of Democrats' fatigue in a state viewed for decades as a true battleground. Even as the coronavirus pandemic gradually wanes and President Joe Biden's job approval remains strong
WHO renames Covid variants with Greek letters 15 replies

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a new naming system for variants of Covid-19. From now on the WHO will use Greek letters to refer to variants first detected in countries like the UK, South Africa and India. The UK variant for instance is labelled as Alpha, the South African Beta, and the Indian as Delta. The WHO said this was to simplify discussions but also to help remove some stigma from the names. Earlier this month the Indian government criticised the naming of variant B.1.617.2 - first detected in the country last October - as the "Indian variant", though the

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) would likely be among the first to admit that he's not the most popular name in Republican circles these days, but that doesn't mean his successful bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 can't serve as a template for future contenders. The Republican Party's 2024 picture is muddled. The consensus seems to be that until former President Donald Trump makes it clear whether he'll run, potential candidates will lay low. One way they can do that and still make some headway if they do ultimately enter the scrum is to get involved with 2022 House
