If you take Uber and Lyft, you’ve probably realized some higher fares and longer wait times. Across the Chicago area, viewers have reported extreme price surges during all hours of the day. Some receipts sent to NBC 5 show a more than $50 price tag for a 2.5-mile ride. A trip from Lake View East to near downtown Chicago shows rates pushing $30. (Snip) The Independent Drivers Guild of Chicago blames the higher prices on less drivers on the road. Organizer Kevin Nelson said recent carjackings and COVID-19 have contributed to a lack of drivers willing to take the risk.

Comments:

Imagine that, drivers not willing to risk losing their car, or life.

Walking could be suicide. The chimps would come out of the trees like piranha after an injured cow. Better to spend the money and stand a better chance at arriving alive. Better still, dont be there at all.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx on Thursday pointed to stress-induced drug abuse during the pandemic as the impetus to get moving on her plan to wipe clean the record of convicted marijuana dealers and expunge offenses for heroin and cocaine possession. “Especially in this last year with COVID — overdose deaths were at a high. Those people weren’t criminals. They were people who were suffering. Whether that was cocaine or heroin or Fentanyl or prescription drugs, I’m not making value judgements on which person used what type of drug to say that’s a disorder,” Foxx told the Sun-Times.

U.S. resistance to getting a COVID-19 vaccine is slowly diminishing, a new online survey finds, but it still exists and at especially high rates in some blue-collar jobs -- and nearly half of respondents are worried about side effects. For adults under age 65 who are hesitant, reluctance is mainly driven by concerns about safety, side effects and distrust in government, the poll found. It's also largely linked to people's line of work. The bottom line: "Vaccine hesitancy is emerging as a key barrier to ending the COVID-19 pandemic," said lead author Wendy King, associate professor of epidemiology in the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.

The initial requirement went into effect Feb. 1 and was set to expire May 11. “The federal mask requirement throughout the transportation system seeks to minimize the spread of COVID-19 on public transportation,” Darby LaJoye, the senior official performing the duties of the TSA administrator, said in a statement. “About half of all adults have at least one vaccination shot and masks remain an important tool in defeating this pandemic.”
