Seattle—Seattle police arrested a 43-year-old man for harassment after leaving a voicemail for Mayor Jenny Durkan in which he allegedly stated he wanted to kill her. Court documents identify the suspect as Rashidi Slaughter of Auburn. Detectives were told Tuesday the suspect left a voicemail at the mayor's office earlier that morning. They were able to identify the man, determining the call was made from Auburn.(Snip) Court documents transcribed the voicemail. It said the suspect did not want police in his life and wanted protective custody from the mayor. The document also says the suspect identified himself on the voicemail by name.

Rashidi Slaughter of Auburn is the blackest White Supremacist ever. Why would Mayor Jenny call the police over something like this? Obviously the man is merely suffering a mental health episode.

Too much booze before dinner proved unhealthy for a Brooklyn man and two strangers he’s accused of shooting during what should have been an evening of fine dining at Williamsburg’s famed Peter Luger Steak House, police said. Arkies Sommerville—who a waiter said never placed an order—was hit Friday with attempted murder charges after cops said his stray bullets hit two strangers as he beefed with family looking forward to a meal of USDA Prime. Sommerville, 24, also faces weapons possession charges—and he and his brother, Armel Sommerville, 19, are suspected in a Feb. 2 home invasion robbery in Littleton, N.C., a detective there confirmed.

A New Jersey police chief facing charges of insubordination over multiple accusations, including offering an officer a promotion in exchange for sex with his wife and daughter, should be demoted, a hearing officer has determined. Retired Judge Raymond A. Batten ruled that Vineland Police Chief Rudy Beu, 60, was guilty of insubordination, conduct unbecoming a public employee and neglect of duty as well as other charges. City officials wanted to suspend the chief for 180 days without pay as well as demote him, reported. But in the April 23 written decision, Batten recommended that Beu be demoted to deputy chief.

President Biden spent 30 seconds frantically looking for a mask he left in his pocket before his outdoor rally in Georgia this week—saying he’d be “in trouble” without it—despite being fully vaccinated. Footage from Thursday’s drive-in event in Duluth—which marked his 100th day in office—showed the commander-in-chief immediately hunting for his missing mask after arriving at his podium. “I can’t find my mask!” he could be heard saying, initially drowned out by the loud welcome music of Jackie Wilson’s “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher.” First lady Jill Biden joined him in his desperate search as he repeated

Even as the United States begins its troop withdrawal, Afghanistan experienced a rising wave of violent attacks against security forces and civilians during President Biden‘s first three months in office. The attacks, blamed mainly on the Taliban insurgency, raise fresh questions about the country’s fate as President Biden sets a definitive end date for U.S. combat troops in the country. Power-sharing talks between the Taliban and the U.S.-backed government in Kabul have largely stalled even as the Pentagon and NATO countries begin the process of bringing their troops home. In a just-released report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR, “enemy-initiated

The US government has still not ordered travel restrictions for India even as the country's COVID-19 crisis deepens—despite there still being bans in place on the UK, South Africa, Brazil and a number of European countries. The State Department issued a Level 4 travel advisory on Wednesday, which is the highest alert of its kind, urging all Americans to leave India if they can because of the current COVID-19 outbreak there. The alert also advises Americans not to travel to India as the country experiences a catastrophic second wave that is, in part, fueled by a deadly Indian variant

Joe Biden’s administration, seeking deep cuts to planet-heating emissions, is facing pressure to take a previously unthinkable step: declare the end of the internal combustion engine in the US. Washington state has moved to call time on the age of gasoline and diesel cars, with the legislature passing a goal that new car sales be only zero-emission vehicles from 2030, including out of state purchases that are then imported. The legislation now awaits to signature of Governor Jay Inslee, a Democrat who previously ran for president on the climate crisis platform. While not a strict mandate, the Washington bill is

U.S. resistance to getting a COVID-19 vaccine is slowly diminishing, a new online survey finds, but it still exists and at especially high rates in some blue-collar jobs -- and nearly half of respondents are worried about side effects. For adults under age 65 who are hesitant, reluctance is mainly driven by concerns about safety, side effects and distrust in government, the poll found. It's also largely linked to people's line of work. The bottom line: "Vaccine hesitancy is emerging as a key barrier to ending the COVID-19 pandemic," said lead author Wendy King, associate professor of epidemiology in the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.

The Transportation Security Administration announced Friday it will extend a federal mandate that requires people to wear masks in transportation settings, including at airports, on commercial aircraft and on commuter bus and rail systems, through Sept. 13. The initial requirement went into effect Feb. 1 and was set to expire May 11. “The federal mask requirement throughout the transportation system seeks to minimize the spread of COVID-19 on public transportation,” Darby LaJoye, the senior official performing the duties of the TSA administrator, said in a statement. “About half of all adults have at least one vaccination shot and masks remain an important tool in defeating this pandemic.”
