President Biden on Friday plugged his $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan at an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of Amtrak, a company near and dear to the longtime rail commuter. “I’ve been riding Amtrak almost as long as there’s been an Amtrak,” said Mr. Biden, who famously commuted from Delaware to Washington, D.C., via rail when he was a U.S. senator. “Amtrak became my family.” He was speaking from a station in Philadelphia, Pa., where he says he ended up a handful of times after falling asleep. “In the past, when I’ve ended up at the 30th Street Station, Amtrak Station, it’s probably because

A controversial mural of George Floyd in Phoenix has been painted over.
The mural depicted Floyd's face on a $20 bill, with the hashtag '#the_price_of_black_lives' hanging above his head. The $20 bill was in reference to the counterfeit bill Floyd allegedly used on May 25, 2020, prior to his arrest and death at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin, who was recently convicted of Floyd's murder.(Snip) The defeat came after some community activists decried the mural for its traumatizing capabilities and lack of input from black community members. 'This is a mural designed by white people that celebrates white violence,'

Former President George W. Bush appeared to blame himself for the country’s “populist uprising” on illegal immigration after he failed to pass comprehensive reform during his eight years in office. During an interview with “The Dispatch” podcast, Mr. Bush expanded on comments he made earlier this month that his failure to pass immigration reform was one of his biggest regrets of his presidency. “Now, the reason I say it’s a regret is because it’s my fault,” the former president said Thursday. “I tried to reform Social Security before reforming immigration. And, you know, I was warned. I’ll never forget, a bunch of Republicans

The New York Times, Washington Post and NBC News all issued retractions Saturday for their coverage of Rudy Giuliani following a raid of his Manhattan apartment by the FBI. The Times appended their correction to a story about the role Giuliani may have played in the 2019 recall of ambassador Marie L. Yovanovitch and whether he received a warning from the FBI about Russian disinformation. “An earlier version of this article misstated whether Rudolph W. Giuliani received a formal warning from the F.B.I. about Russian disinformation. Mr. Giuliani did not receive such a so-called defensive briefing,” The Times wrote Saturday

Rudolph W. Giuliani says that the FBI secretly spied on his Apple iCloud account beginning in late 2019 when he was having regular messaging conversations with his client, President Trump, during House impeachment proceedings. Mr. Giuliani said the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan on Thursday informed his attorney, Robert Costello, that covert wiretapping took place. “He asked [the prosecutor] to repeat it because he couldn’t believe it was true,” Mr. Giuliani said this week on the “Rita Cosby Show” on WABC radio in New York. “To me they just trashed the president of the United States.”(Snip) “Unless these people have no ethics

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have almost doubled the size of their estate in Hawaii, purchasing a neighboring 600 acre plot for $53 million in a move likely to further enrage his island critics. The Facebook founder, who began buying up chunks of the island in September 2014, added the additional land on March 19, according to Pacific Business News. Kauai is the fourth largest of Hawaii's eight main islands, and home to 67,000 people. The north shore land, which includes the spectacular Larsen's Beach, was bought from a nonprofit organization established by a local family, whose roots, the paper reported,

Too much booze before dinner proved unhealthy for a Brooklyn man and two strangers he’s accused of shooting during what should have been an evening of fine dining at Williamsburg’s famed Peter Luger Steak House, police said.
Arkies Sommerville—who a waiter said never placed an order—was hit Friday with attempted murder charges after cops said his stray bullets hit two strangers as he beefed with family looking forward to a meal of USDA Prime.
Sommerville, 24, also faces weapons possession charges—and he and his brother, Armel Sommerville, 19, are suspected in a Feb. 2 home invasion robbery in Littleton, N.C., a detective there confirmed.

A New Jersey police chief facing charges of insubordination over multiple accusations, including offering an officer a promotion in exchange for sex with his wife and daughter, should be demoted, a hearing officer has determined. Retired Judge Raymond A. Batten ruled that Vineland Police Chief Rudy Beu, 60, was guilty of insubordination, conduct unbecoming a public employee and neglect of duty as well as other charges. City officials wanted to suspend the chief for 180 days without pay as well as demote him, pressofatlanticcity.com reported. But in the April 23 written decision, Batten recommended that Beu be demoted to deputy chief.

President Biden spent 30 seconds frantically looking for a mask he left in his pocket before his outdoor rally in Georgia this week—saying he’d be “in trouble” without it—despite being fully vaccinated. Footage from Thursday’s drive-in event in Duluth—which marked his 100th day in office—showed the commander-in-chief immediately hunting for his missing mask after arriving at his podium. “I can’t find my mask!” he could be heard saying, initially drowned out by the loud welcome music of Jackie Wilson’s “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher.” First lady Jill Biden joined him in his desperate search as he repeated

Even as the United States begins its troop withdrawal, Afghanistan experienced a rising wave of violent attacks against security forces and civilians during President Biden‘s first three months in office. The attacks, blamed mainly on the Taliban insurgency, raise fresh questions about the country’s fate as President Biden sets a definitive end date for U.S. combat troops in the country. Power-sharing talks between the Taliban and the U.S.-backed government in Kabul have largely stalled even as the Pentagon and NATO countries begin the process of bringing their troops home.
