TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Months after President Joe Biden snubbed Canadian officials by canceling Keystone XL, a showdown over a second crude oil pipeline threatens to further strain ties between the two neighbors. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has set a May 12 deadline for Canadian energy company Enbridge to shut down its Line 5, which delivers oil from Alberta to refineries in the U.S. Midwest and eastern Canada. Whitmer agrees with environmentalists who consider the pipeline an environmental hazard, mostly because one 68-year-old section crosses the Straits of Mackinac linking Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Canadian officials say closing the pipeline

A long existing pipeline. The energy fascists can't stand cheap, safe, wonderful oil and fas competing with their expensive, bird killing, unreliable and guaranteed intermittent "green" garbage.

The NYPD will return a robot dog after it was condemned for targeting 'low income communities of color' with the dystopian four-legged surveillance machine. John Miller, the NYPD's deputy commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism, told the New York Daily News on Wednesday that the NYPD had cancelled its $94,000 contract with Boston Dynamics. Miller on Wednesday defended the metal canine, known as a DigiDog, from claims from critics like progressive congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who called it a 'robotic surveillance ground drone'. 'Shout out to everyone who fought against community advocates who demanded these resources go to investments like school counseling

More than half of American (and Californian) adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and nearly a third are fully vaccinated. Vaccination has now been opened to everyone 16 and older. Our biggest worry in the coming months isn't whether we'll be able to deliver enough doses; it's whether enough people will seek them. We’re getting closer to the point where every American who wants to be vaccinated will have gotten their needle stick. A quarter of Americans say they don't plan to be vaccinated; in vaccine-friendlier California, that’s 1 in 5. Of those who don’t

WASHINGTON — When President Joe Biden named Kamala Harris as his running mate, there were whispers about her ambition — would a former rival be a loyal soldier to a president she so sharply criticized on the campaign trail? (Snip) Harris has taken on one of the administration’s toughest tasks — addressing the root causes of migration to the U.S. from Mexico and Central America. The problem has bedeviled presidents from both parties for years and has no easy solutions. The player introductions from Tuesday’s Jeopardy! caused quite an uproar on Twitter as many viewers were left wondering if returning champion Kelly Donohue made a hand gesture which has been classified as a symbol of hate by the Anti-Defamation League. The symbol, which is often referred to as the “OK” sign, has been tied to white supremacists. Context does matter. One fan pointed out that Donohue held up fingers during his previous introductions in correlation to how many games he had won, and coming into Tuesday he had won three games so he held up three fingers. Crematoriums in the Indian capital Delhi have been forced to build makeshift funeral pyres, as the city runs out of space to cremate its dead. Staff are working around the clock, while parks and other empty spaces are also being utilised for cremations. Families have had to wait hours before being allowed to cremate their dead due to the rise in demand. Deaths have been surging in India as a second wave of infections devastates the country. The rising number of deaths - 380 were recorded in Delhi alone on Monday - has left crematoriums in urgent need of space. At the

The US is poised to ban menthol cigarettes in a move health experts say could have a positive impact on the health of Black Americans. The vast majority of Black smokers, an estimated 85 per cent, use menthol cigarettes, and now the Food and Drug Administration is set to take action this week. The FDA faces a Thursday court deadline to respond to a 2013 citizen petition urging it to ban menthol, in the same way it has other prohibited flavoured cigarettes. It's taken on new urgency now, in the eyes of many bishops, because Biden.... is the first to hold that office while espousing clear-cut support for abortion rights.

Kamala Harris hasn't been looking well lately. She gave a maskless interview to CNN's Dana Bash a week ago, and she looked much more jowly and wrinkly than she did just three months ago, when she took the oath of office.
