Of the many shocking statements made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their full-scale assault on the monarchy during their two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey, the most peculiar was surely Meghan’s claim to know nothing about the British monarchy when she first met Harry. She was so incurious that she didn’t bother to read a volume of history or biography. She said she didn’t even do an internet search to learn the basics. Her knowledge of the Royal Family, she said, was based only on what Harry “was sharing with me.” (Snip) she said her sense of Royal life was based on “fairytales.”

Buried within the $1.9 trillion emergency spending bill that Congress sent to President Joe Biden's desk on Wednesday is a provision that could effectively block states from cutting taxes if they accept federal bailout dollars. That provision, added to the bill by the Senate last week, could put a halt to several states' plans to cut taxes this year as a way to stimulate economic growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Depending on how the text is interpreted, the measure could also make it illegal for states to create new tax credit programs like the ones that have become a popular mechanism for expanding school choice.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has criticized West Virginia Governor Jim Justice's plan to introduce major tax cuts, after the Republican took aim at Manchin over the latest COVID-19 stimulus package. Justice complained Monday about a clause in the American Rescue Plan that prevents states from using relief funds to offset revenue losses from tax cuts. The governor wants to eliminate personal income taxes in the state, phasing them out over the next few years, beginning with a 60 percent cut in January 2022. The lost income tax revenue would be recouped through increases in other taxes but would still leave the state with a $90 million shortfall, according to The Intelligencer.

The $1.9 trillion stimulus package heading to President Joseph Biden’s desk contains language saying states cannot “directly or indirectly” reduce tax rates if they want the money. The aim of the provision is to bar states from cutting taxes and then back-filling the revenue hole with federal dollars meant for relief. At stake for Missouri is an estimated $5 billion in relief that is designed to help pay for government services and help businesses, families and schools weather the ongoing pandemic.

The employees fled and the suspect exited the business a short time later. Several nearby citizens confronted the suspect as he was leaving. One of the citizens was armed and at some point, during the confrontation, the citizen fired several shots. The suspect ran on foot and was apprehended nearby, by the citizens and held until police arrived,”

After “Good Morning Britain” host Piers Morgan severed ties with the show over comments he made concerning Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, he doubled down by saying that he still does not believe Markle. After a heated exchange with weatherman Alex Beresford, Morgan stormed off the set of the show on Tuesday as Beresford called him “diabolical” for his trashing of Markle. He would return later to further debate the subject with Beresford, but after more than 40,000 complaints to the network over his comments referring to Markle’s accusations of Royal Family racism and bullying, Morgan resigned from the show.On Wednesday, Morgan tweeted to address the situation and

After a full day questioning perspective jurors in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, only three people have been chosen to serve on the case. The first juror, a chemist in his 30s, lives in Minneapolis and is engaged to be married. The man, who is white, described himself as a "pretty logical person" and said he has generally favorable view of the Black Lives Matter movement as he believed all lives matter equally. He said he doesn't believe that the Blue Lives Matter counter viewpoint is necessary. The man also said he had never seen the

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Disturbing claims of racism on the court led to the William Peace University Women's Basketball Team walking out on their shot at the conference title. The team did it in an act of solidarity with Lauryn Cross -- a star point guard. It started back in January when, during a heated matchup against Mary Baldwin University, she says a white player insulted her. (Snip) Meredith College Head Basketball Coach LaQuanda Quick issued the following statement: "The Meredith College basketball team and the College's athletics program take accusations of racism, on the court or off, very seriously. Congress is set to approve the largest injection of federal cash into a growing economy in U.S. history. The nearly $2 trillion stimulus package headed to President Joe Biden’s desk Wednesday comes after lawmakers approved nearly $4 trillion last year as the economy cratered under the coronavirus pandemic. And the White House still wants trillions more in stimulus spending this year through a sweeping infrastructure package. (Snip) It will be a moment of glory for Biden when he signs the new relief act in the coming days, the centerpiece of his early agenda. But a sunny ending is not fully

During the four years of Trump’s presidency, the leftists were free to go crazy with their theories because they never had to put them to the test: Believe all women? Check. Women deserve special privileges? Check. Men who claim they’re women really are women? Check. Democrats are the workers’ party? Check. Democrats are the Black party? Check. Open borders are good? Check. Now that Democrats control the entire federal government, though, and can set policies, leftists are discovering that many of their most beloved theories cannot coexist. The inevitable clashes will create opportunities for conservatives.

Doddery old Joe Biden isn't even trying to hide it anymore. His gaffes and garble are soaring to orbit. The faraway look in his eyes is growing dimmer. The public is noticing. He called himself a transition president. He presumably joked that he'd resign if he ever disagreed with Harris. But much sooner than anyone thought, a Hollywood style starlet build-up for Vice President Kamala Harris is beginning as if to prepare the public for his replacement. Start with this International Women's Day tweet from someone at the controls of the Twitter account of senile old Joe:

One of the most famous and popular TV personalities in Britain walked off the set of his TV show and resigned after getting flak over his charges that Meghan was just drama queening to Oprah when she claimed to have considered suicide. So great is Piers Morgan’s media clout that the show business bible Variety wrote, “Morgan’s shock departure from “Good Morning Britain” is sure to be a blow for ITV,” rather than a risky gambit for the broadcaster. (snip) Morgan may be in for official trouble, according to NBC News: The United Kingdom’s Office of Communications announced it was investigating the show’s Monday episode under its “harm and offence rules.”

Just one week ago, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas flat out denied that there is a crisis at the southern border. “The answer is no,” he said in answer to a reporter’s question. “I think there is a challenge at the border that we are managing.” The very next day, administration officials informed President Joe Biden that the number of migrant children in the U.S. is on pace to beat the previous record by 45% and that there aren’t enough beds to accommodate them. Then Monday, Mayorkas started pleading for volunteers to help Border Protection cope with the

The Centers for Disease Control released another study showing no statistically significant decrease in "daily case" or "death growth" rates from COVID-19 in areas with mask mandates. This comes after a similar CDC study in October indicated that mask mandates do not appear to have slowed or stopped the spread of the coronavirus at all. Still, the CDC continues to recommend that all Americans wear masks, except in certain private settings when individuals are fully vaccinated, unless the goalpost-shifting Dr. Fauci gets his way. This whole "masks don't seem to be having much effect, but wear them anyway" bureaucratic calculus may seem like a frivolous controversy to Americans

And the trash problem has only gotten worse.De Blasio in September announced initiatives to reallocate Sanitation Department funding to bolster litter-basket pickups in communities hit hardest during the pandemic, including Bushwick in Brooklyn. But according to the official mayoral report of “acceptably clean city streets,” street cleanliness there plummeted to 33.3 percent in January, compared with 86.1 percent the month before.

Here is some exciting news for those who are impatient for our glorious multicultural future to arrive. A cultural line has been crossed. And the implications of this, beyond the expected hosannas from the usual proponents of globalism and multiculturalism, are ominous. The German-language Junge Freiheit reported Monday that “according to the Hessian state government, muezzin calls can be made without a permit.” [SNIP] “Contrary to the assumption of the questioner, no (immission control) approval is required for the Muslim call to prayer, with or without loudspeaker. Approvals were therefore not granted and can therefore not be withdrawn or revoked.”
