DES MOINES — Senate Republicans indicated Wednesday they expect to forge ahead with broad-based tax reform yet this session despite a number of unresolved issues clouding the outlook of Iowa’s economy. “What we’re trying to do is put Iowa on a shining pathway going forward and re-imagine what a competitive tax code looks like here in the state,” said Sen. Dan Dawson, R-Council Bluffs, before the Senate Ways and Means Committee advanced a major tax policy bill on a party-line vote. Senate Study Bill 1250 proposes to accelerate the state’s 2018 income tax cuts by eliminating the existing revenue “triggers” that need to be met before lower tax rates kick in.

Here's a plan, for free: Take the money, disburse, and spend. Cut the Taxes. When Yellen says 'no,' haul her into federal court. If you win, hooray! If you lose, tell the cities to cough it back up and let Joe (or whoever by then) try to collect.

It's too bad tax cuts or a down right suspension of federal income taxes for employers and employees wasn't tried. But, I suppose, those taxes need be payed to DC first to make sure the politicians and bureaucrats get THEIR paychecks before anything is re-distributed.

During his first primetime address to the nation, President Joe Biden denounced violent attacks against Asian Americans during the coronavirus pandemic as un-American, calling on the attacks to end immediately. Discussing how the pandemic had served to divide and antagonize Americans on a range of issues, Biden called out "vicious hate crimes against Asian Americans who've been attacked, harassed, blamed and scapegoated." "At this very moment, so many of them, our fellow Americans, are on the frontlines of this pandemic trying to save lives," Biden said of Asian Americans who have worked in front-line jobs during the pandemic. "And still, still they are forced to live in fear

Following up on this story written by my RedState colleague Bonchie earlier today, readers need to understand that the Democrats have used his very tactic in the past to reverse the certified outcome of an election for a seat in the House of Representatives, and they did so under circumstances where the outcome of that particular race had no impact on the operations of the House in any respect. As Bonchie explained in this story, the dispute over the outcome of the Iowa House race is now pending in the House Committee on Administration. The Democrat challenger, Rita Hart, made

The New York state assembly has authorized its judiciary committee to start an “impeachment investigation” into sexual misconduct allegations brought by six women against Andrew Cuomo. The panel’s investigation, which would run parallel to one being led by the state attorney general, Letitia James, would be authorized to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence, said Carl Heastie, the speaker of the state assembly. “The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious,” Heastie said in a statement.

Gee, who could have predicted this outcome from the rapid dismantling of the disincentives against border swarming? The US currently holds 30% more minors in adult detention centers under Joe Biden than at any time during the Trump administration, the Washington Post reported last night. They aren’t the “cages” built and used in both the Trump and Obama administrations, but there’s not much difference to these facilities either, Nick Miroff notes: The magnitude of the crisis facing President Biden at the U.S.-Mexico border came into clearer focus Wednesday as the new administration was holding record numbers of unaccompanied migrant teens and children in detention cells

The Texas Rangers are on track to become the first team in Major League Baseball or any major U.S.-based sports league to have a full-capacity crowd since the coronavirus pandemic started altering the sports landscape a year ago. On the same day Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s order took effect allowing businesses in the state to operate at 100% capacity, Rangers CEO Neil Leibman said Wednesday that the team hopes to be at that for the April 5 opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. “We’re very confident we won’t be a super-spreader event,” said Leibman,

An influx of unaccompanied migrant children awaiting shelter at the southern border has raised serious humanitarian concerns as federal health officials struggle to find space for them in Department of Health and Human Services shelters. A record number of them are being held at adult detention cells beyond the legal limit of 72 hours. Nearly 3500 minors are waiting at border patrol stations, spending an average of 107 hours inside the steel and concrete cells built for adults, Washington Post reported. More than 8500 unaccompanied migrant children are now housed in Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) shelters as they wait to be placed with relatives or sponsors.

Buried within the $1.9 trillion emergency spending bill that Congress sent to President Joe Biden's desk on Wednesday is a provision that could effectively block states from cutting taxes if they accept federal bailout dollars. That provision, added to the bill by the Senate last week, could put a halt to several states' plans to cut taxes this year as a way to stimulate economic growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Depending on how the text is interpreted, the measure could also make it illegal for states to create new tax credit programs like the ones that have become a popular mechanism for expanding school choice.

Earlier today I wrote about how so-called journalists had achieved peak stupid in response to a segment Tucker Carlson did on his program Tuesday night about New York Times tech reporter Taylor Lorenz. To recap, Carlson talked about how Lorenz used International Women’s Day to portray herself as a victim of a year-long, online “harassment and smear campaign”, which she says “destroyed her life.” In a segment on how powerful people like Meghan Markle were declaring themselves powerless, Carlson took issue with Lorenz trotting out the victim card, especially considering her position at the supposed newspaper of record at a time when so many are out of work.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey of likely voters, 50% said they are not confident that “Joe Biden is physically and mentally up to the job of being president of the United States.” Another 48% have confidence in Biden, though only 34% were “very confident” that he was up to the job.

So how bad is that illegal immigration crisis getting at the border? The Biden team threw out their “border czar,” Roberta Jacobson, a National Security Council member in charge of southern border affairs, to try to deal with mess they created. But it was a disaster when the “czar” refused to admit that the crisis was in fact a crisis. First, she tried to claim that it was President Donald Trump’s fault for causing “pent-up demand.” Funny how it isn’t Trump illegal aliens are citing when they say why they are coming, they say it’s because of Biden’s own words they are coming, they’re even wearing shirts with his name on them

It’s almost our favorite day of the year: the beginning of Daylight Savings Time, when we can fast-forward our clocks, stop the winter darkness that descends by mid-afternoon, and crawl out of our stuffy homes after dinner into the evening light. Amid Biden’s “dark winter” of COVID hell, the act of “springing forward” out of Standard Time is especially welcomed this year. That’s why a glorious piece of legislation popping up in the Senate is a bright spot this week — not only because it’s bipartisan, but also because it would literally grant daylight to weary Americans.
