Somewhere in the piles of garbage lining the streets of Bushwick, residents might find Mayor de Blasio’s word. It’s been six months since the mayor promised to pump more money into the city’s street-cleaning efforts. And the trash problem has only gotten worse.De Blasio in September announced initiatives to reallocate Sanitation Department funding to bolster litter-basket pickups in communities hit hardest during the pandemic, including Bushwick in Brooklyn. But according to the official mayoral report of “acceptably clean city streets,” street cleanliness there plummeted to 33.3 percent in January, compared with 86.1 percent the month before.

This is why government should never be trusted to pick up the garbage. My city uses private waste haulers like Waste Management and COVID hasn't affected our waste pickup in the slightest.

I agree with #4. There is no reason for trash pickup to be stopped because of covid. Here in my city it's the same; private haulers who pick up the trash. They haven't missed a week since the virus was first recognized.

Having trash collectors and school teachers "employed" by the government is yielding similar results. There is a lesson in there somewhere.

There should plenty of revenue left over from defunding the police give it to the sanitation department instead. The mayor's wife said 'police yourself' so do your part and pick up your trash. You can imagine what NY must look like if you have ever seen parks, concerts or other venues when liberal leave, it's disgusting.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti described himself as “ecstatic” over the $1.35 billion that the city will receive from the $1.9 trillion “COVID relief” bill passed by Congress on Wednesday and set to be signed into law by President Joe Biden.Coronavirus relief bills have been enacted repeatedly for a year, mostly by President Donald Trump, and often after delays by Democrats, who were reluctant to see Trump take any political credit. The new bill, however, includes payments to cities and states, as well as pension bailouts for unions, and money devoted to long-term “progressive” Democratic Party policies. The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday:

Buried within the $1.9 trillion emergency spending bill that Congress sent to President Joe Biden's desk on Wednesday is a provision that could effectively block states from cutting taxes if they accept federal bailout dollars. That provision, added to the bill by the Senate last week, could put a halt to several states' plans to cut taxes this year as a way to stimulate economic growth following the COVID-19 pandemic. Depending on how the text is interpreted, the measure could also make it illegal for states to create new tax credit programs like the ones that have become a popular mechanism for expanding school choice.
