Legalize heroin. And enact common-sense battery control laws.

I asked a Tesla owning friend of a friend how he 'refills' when on a long trip. He said there are plenty of charging stations and it takes half an hour. Adding defensively that you need that time to rest anyway. But what if it is a holiday weekend and that half hour comes only after waiting for another one or two. He said there are not enough Teslas yet to cause that. I don't know, I prefer the old internal combustion plant.

Seems like Teslas shed parts, including flaming batteries, pretty easily, perhaps to absorb the crash better. Whatever the reason, it would seem there is a safety issue with the battery (batteries) holder rupturing and spewing flaming projectiles significant distances setting house fires. NHTSA needs to pull these from the road and Tesla redesign or replace the receptacle to ensure public safety. They pulled the 737 Max...

Essentially after reading the article in post 9, DUI for marijuana is almost impossible to prosecute successfully. He will walk on that charge. We demonize inebriated drivers but there never seems to be there never seems to be any concern about stoned ones. Wonder why that is?

Re #13, THC is detectable in blood, so DUI drivers don’t always walk away. And they get nailed for refusing to be tested. California and some other states apparently now have breathalyzers that can detect it. Level of impairment visible in sobriety testing on the roadside is also grounds in Oregon as I understand it. THC is known to affect depth perception, which is a serious impairment for a driver.

There are times I would like to drive a Tesla. If they can just make it so that it travels a longer distance.

If they only do a urine test then any good lawyer would be able avoid a conviction.

One of my cars is a Model 3.
Bad: Build construction is "ok" on a good day, at best. The GUI is horrible and unintuitive. You do have to plan for long trips.
Good: Tesla sends someone to my door to fix most things on the spot. It is very fun to drive (my other cars are designed for track and fun sports cars, not station wagons so I know fun). The instant electric torque is a kick. The seats are super comfy.
It did cost too much but maintenance is cheaper long term and I have a special situation where I pay zero to recharge it in my area so in the last year it's gone 10k miles for only $25 out of my pocket.

And lithium-ion batteries don't just "burn" - they go off like a pyrotechnic fireworks display.

"Rains Flaming Batteries" ?
A lot of people still imagine the giant electric car batteries as being filled with thousands of rechargeable Lithium-Ion triple-A batteries. Good grief.

Sorry, hit reply accidentally.
The fastest charge on a Tesla is about 1.5 hours to 2 hours, with a very powerful charging station, much more than most homes....incidentally, most of these charging stations have a diesel generator...so the Tesla is actually a diesel car.
In any case, to do a 1/2 hour charge, you'd only get about a 40-50% charge increase, so your already short range would be shortened even more. Imagine filling your gas tank through a nozzle like a soda straw. You could "refuel" in half an hour, but not fill up the tank.
Electric cars are expensive toys.

Coming back from Idaho after the eclipse we were stuck on I80 due to a grass fire about 75 miles east of Reno and it was hot enough for AC - I was hurting from the stop and go with the heavy Shelby clutch and alongside me was one of the high end Tesla's - after about 30 minutes they rolled the windows down in spite of the heat and smoke, pulling into the first gas station he was right behind me and as I finished up filling my tank went over and started chatting with him at the charging station (not a super charger) he was looking at another 30 minutes just to get to Reno and the closest super charger station…

I wonder how they could prove that he was legally impaired from pot. Is there a test with a threshold for being too high?
