GENEVA -- American cyclist Quinn Simmons was suspended by the Trek-Segafredo team on Thursday after posting antagonistic comments on social media in support of President Donald Trump. The 2019 junior road race world champion replied to a journalist from the Netherlands who had criticized Trump on Twitter. ''Regrettably, team rider Quinn Simmons made statements online that we feel are divisive, incendiary, and detrimental to the team, professional cycling, its fans, and the positive future we hope to help create for the sport,'' Trek-Segafredo said in a statement. ''(He) will not be racing for Trek-Segafredo until further notice.'' The 19-year-old rider Wednesday

A self-righteous bicycle club! The absolute hatred that the Left posesses should be a wake up call for everyone who is decent and just. THis is a clear case of abuse of constitutional rights. Where in the hell does it say in this organization that you can't back a certain candidate? I hope Quinn flattens all their tires before he leaves lol.

He wrote “bye” in response to some journalist’s post saying if you support Trump you can go! Insane. I’m actually in the market for a new bike, probably $3k - $4k, but now it won’t be a Trek.

Notice it's not for his political opinions, but because in their view "made statements online that we feel are divisive, incendiary, and detrimental to the team"
After all, it's illegal to discriminate for political affiliation, but not necessarily how the comments might be interpreted in anyone's view who doesn't like those comments, it seems.
Does anyone ever report people on the Left who've made incendiary or divisive comments?

Glad I passed on the $3K Trek bike I looked at earlier this year and went with a Canyon instead. They may not be an American company, but at least they don't hate me.

At least the Trek-Segafredo is not an AMERICAN tradition. The Euros will find one to urinate on soon enough.

Sue them! Unless restriction on free-speech was included in some contract the cyclist had to sign, this attack on political speech is protected by out First Amendment to the Constitution!

OT: My BIL spent 4K on a bike, but he's an idiot. I can't say that with certainty about anyone else who spends so lavishly for a bike... but your case is under review.

This may well end his career. There are no solo winners in most road races because even the best need the help of team-mates to save energy through drafting.

Well, folks wail about players taking a knee and demand sports be apolitical...demanding the teams do something. Here, someone did something. Now the wail is "free speech". Well, he was free to speak...his sponsor is free to suspend support.

I could support the firm if they had a “nothing political” rule since that would be good business. But characterizing his statements as more satanic than satan, .... of course we know they suck at the millennial - chinese trough.

"Bye" and "that's right" are both right-wing, racist terms.
• "Bye" is short for "God be with you" - - and any mention of God is an attack on science.
• "That's right" implies that there is right and there is wrong - - and that's a white concept - - and it shows pure hatred against persons of color.
So - - he's lucky he's only being suspended from a bicycle team. If there were true racial justice he would be suspended from a gallows. I know I'm right. Bye!

I'll be sure to never buy anything Trek. But I have a pretty good carbon fiber bike already, probably don't need a new one at my age.

13, taking a knee during an official game on company, sponsor and fan time is very different than posting online on one's own time. The first is an official statement by the entire team of support for that political position if the team lets it happen. The second is first amendment protected speech.

So if a sportsman supports his country and his president, he is divisive and incendiary. Dear EU get you heads out of your backsides before ALL your countries exit.
Idea: picket bicycle shops that sell trek bikes

Trek doesn't own the team or manage it, they sponsor it, just like US Postal Service didn't own the team Lance rode with.
As the money bag, Trek could reverse this suspension overnight. Trek needs to make a public statement on this. Then we can decide how much Trek should be punished by the buying public.

I just contacted Trek bicycles at this site and told them that this was un-American, obnoxious, unfair and totalitarian. I was firm that any athlete should be able to support the President of the USA without being fired, especially when he does it in such a low key, non-confrontational, non-aggressive way.
Take a moment to send a comment. Perhaps we can get Mr. Simmons out of the leftist doghouse.

FTA: ... the team added that Simmons ''was not suspended because of his political views. He was suspended for engaging in conversation on Twitter in a way that we felt was conduct unbefitting a Trek athlete.''
I do not believe them. It is obviously politically motivated. It is truly straining at a gnat and beneath contempt to find the color of an emoji offensive enough to destroy the life and career of a talented 19 year old athlete. You REALLY had to be looking hard for something offensive in the actions of this young man.

Trek was also refusing to sell bikes earlier in the year to some police departments because they said they did not want their company name associated with institutional racisim.
