Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House could ultimately vote to unseat Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who won Iowa's 2nd Congressional District seat by just six votes out of more than 394,000 cast. Pelosi told reporters that the Democratic-led House Administration Committee “is following the law,” in its review of the election, and it could ultimately result in a move to force out the first-term Iowa Republican. “We will see where that takes us, but there could be a scenario to that extent,” Pelosi said. Democratic candidate Rita Hart has contested her narrow loss to Miller-Meeks, leaving the House Administration Committee to

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Thursday introduced for the second time a bill that would guarantee full payment forgiveness on rent and home mortgage payments throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Under the bill, titled the Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act, there would be no accumulation of debt for renters or homeowners, as well as no negative impact on a person’s credit rating or rental history. The legislation also calls on the Department of Housing and Urban Development to establish and oversee a “Landlord Relief Fund,” to cover any losses landlords would receive as a result of the payment cancellations. After a full day questioning perspective jurors in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, only three people have been chosen to serve on the case. The first juror, a chemist in his 30s, lives in Minneapolis and is engaged to be married. The man, who is white, described himself as a "pretty logical person" and said he has generally favorable view of the Black Lives Matter movement as he believed all lives matter equally. He said he doesn't believe that the Blue Lives Matter counter viewpoint is necessary. The man also said he had never seen the

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Disturbing claims of racism on the court led to the William Peace University Women's Basketball Team walking out on their shot at the conference title. The team did it in an act of solidarity with Lauryn Cross -- a star point guard. It started back in January when, during a heated matchup against Mary Baldwin University, she says a white player insulted her. Congress is set to approve the largest injection of federal cash into a growing economy in U.S. history. The nearly $2 trillion stimulus package headed to President Joe Biden’s desk Wednesday comes after lawmakers approved nearly $4 trillion last year as the economy cratered under the coronavirus pandemic. And the White House still wants trillions more in stimulus spending this year through a sweeping infrastructure package. (Snip) It will be a moment of glory for Biden when he signs the new relief act in the coming days, the centerpiece of his early agenda. But a sunny ending is not fully

A significant provision making any student loan forgiveness tax-free has been included in the $1.9 trillion federal coronavirus stimulus package that’s working its way through Congress and will likely soon be signed into law. Currently, any student loan debt canceled by the government can be considered taxable and levied at the borrower’s normal income tax rate. For example, if someone earns $50,000 a year, and was at a 22% tax rate, and received $30,000 in student loan forgiveness, they might be slapped with a $6,600 bill from the IRS. Soon, borrowers may be off the hook from these payments. What

Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill postponed the start of Derek Chauvin's trial in the killing of George Floyd on Monday, after an appeals court ordered him to reconsider his original decision to dismiss a third-degree murder charge against the former Minneapolis police officer. The decision came as a pool of potential jurors waited to start the selection process. The delay comes as Chauvin's defense attorney, Eric Nelson, said he is finalizing an appeal asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to review the question of whether Cahill should consider reinstating the murder charge. "We're prepared to try this case. It is not

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared the revelation that they married in secret three days before their wedding at Windsor Castle. Bringing up the "bombshell that has been lost in all of this", Piers said on Good Morning Britain today, "I didn't even know you could do that twice in three days". "So the vows they made on national TV were not real vows? So everything we saw was a sham. "Also who has the Archbishop of Canterbury in their back garden to get married? And they claim to be 'people of the people'. "The Archbishop of Canterbury wouldn't

SANAA - Yemen’s Houthi forces fired drones and missiles at the heart of Saudi Arabia’s oil industry on Sunday, including a Saudi Aramco facility at Ras Tanura vital to petroleum exports, in what Riyadh called a failed assault on global energy security. The Saudi energy ministry said there were no casualties or loss of property from the attacks. The defence ministry said it intercepted an armed drone coming from the sea prior to hitting its target at an oil storage yard at Ras Tanura, site of a refinery and the world’s biggest offshore oil loading facility.
