A U.S. District court judge in Pittsburgh has struck down the most significant portions of the Wolf administration’s efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, finding that state-imposed limits on outdoor gatherings, its stay at home order, and its business shutdown orders were unconstitutional. A Federal Court in Pittsburgh found that the Pennsylvania Governor has violated the US Constitution with key COVID-19 restrictions. This will ripple out to all of the States and end up in the Supreme Court. It would be *highly* unusual for the Supreme Court to reverse this Federal Judge's decision. I’m sure this was just an honest mistake. But even if so, it’s a darned curious one. It turns out that only yesterday, Michigan was making military and overseas absentee ballots available for download and printing in advance of the general election. For a lucky few candidates, the embarrassment is mitigated by the assistance of journalists who accept the explanations or, even better, don’t ask for them in the first place. Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for president, is in that enviable position. Whenever he makes a political mess, he is blessed with people, many of them not in his employ, who will clean it up for him.

One of the deputies wounded in a brazen ambush in Compton, Calif., over the weekend was released from the hospital Wednesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. “Great news, one of those deputies was released from the hospital today,” Villanueva tweeted Wednesday night. “He has a long road ahead for recovery. But he's not alone. We, as a community, are in this together.” Villanueva did not identify the deputy, who was one of two shot in the head as they sat in a marked car near a transit station Saturday.

The Academy of Country Music Awards left fans stunned when, for the first time in its history, the evening ended in a tie between Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett for entertainer of the year. While the award is a hallowed one among country musicians and fans alike, some fans weren't terribly pleased to see it split between the two crooners. "Of course they had to make the ACM Awards Entertainer a Tie and make sure a man still won, couldn’t let a well deserving, hard working woman have it this year on her own," said one viewer on Twitter.
