Minneapolis City Council members, who just two months ago moved to eliminate the police department, sounded the alarm during a Wednesday meeting about a surge in crime seen by their constituents.Council members pressed police Chief Medaria Arradondo about the uptick in crimes that included daylight carjackings, robberies, assaults, shootings and street racing.“Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?’” said Council Member Jamal Osman, noting that constituents’ calls to the Minneapolis Police Department have gone unanswered.

Why would a cop take a risk of losing his job or getting hurt if he engages, especially when the mutant is released later and not prosecuted?

Let me see. Now you cut my budget, laid off a large part of my crew, told people to disregard us and what we do, and now you want us to do our job after you took away our tools? Well, we will get around to it some time soon. Maybe.

Are they a new kind of stupid? What did they think would happen if they defunded the police? And if I recall correctly the city charter requires that the city provide X number of police per 1,000 residents - pretty sure they have ignored that statute. This mess is not just Minneapolis - also in Aurora, CO - the cops came to disturbances caused by a man taking a golf club& breaking other people property but refused to take him into custody - twice they stood down. Why? The police officials indicated he was so violent he would likely resist arrest and the cops might have to use 'deadly force' - so they went away & left the citizens in danger.

Wait until the leftist environmental wing insists on allowing rivers to run free and natural, and demand that all of the dams be blown up. The democrat politicians will tell those living downstream to just accept it for the good of the environment. Liberals don't think long range.

Illiterate people politicians have never learned from history's quotes.
Pay for police protection, or pay for criminal Marxist Communist traitors destruction and stealing.
"You Get What You Pay For"
-- Duncan Hines - Famous Cake Mixes
Borrowed from -- Gabriel Bell, 15th. century
Of course God' Holy Bible is the best source for the truth, even Quotes:
Genesis 8:21
And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

In this city council meeting w police chief Arradondo the council president claimed the police were being defiant. Needless to say she’s made anti-police statements in the past. Can’t have it both ways.

Cutting money for protection by police then awarding marauding thugs freedom, placing turnstiles behind the jail and court rooms what did you think was going to happen? Now that trained or dedicate law enforcement disappear where will you find more. You all screwed up 'big time' on this stupid idea.

A bunch of freakin communist illiterates. Why should any police officer respond to ANY potentially violent situation where, if they have to take action, it will cause protests, riots, looting and they will either be suspended or wind up in jail. All this for trying to protect the same people who are trashing them. AND REMEMBER ONE THING, THESE ARE ALL COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS ATTEMPTING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY. GOT IT.

Just like during elections, votes have consequences. The Minneapolis City Council members voted to defund the police. Now they have increased crime. Duh.

I don't even know what to say. I feel very sorry for the cops. They are damned if they do their job. And they are damned if they don't do their job. Not doing their job (i.e., not enforcing the law) at least won't get them thrown in jail. But by god if they end up shooting a person in the line of duty, they'll be wearing the orange jumpsuit for years.

#29, that is why a bunch of officers have retired and left the force. I'm guessing that a bunch of the remaining officers are trying to do what they can to lower the crime rate, but not get themselves in trouble with the current insane rules of engagement. Officers tend to be very civic minded and love their jobs. That explains why there hasn't been a 100% resignation. Well, that and they need their jobs in these screwy times, and I suspect some are hoping for a big change in the city council in November.
