VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis called George Floyd by name, twice, and offered support to an American bishop who knelt in prayer during a Black Lives Matter protest. (Snip) Francis “wants to send a very clear message to these conservative Catholics here who are pro-Trumpers that, ‘Listen, this is just as much of an issue as abortion is,’” said Anthea Butler, a presidential visiting fellow at Yale Divinity School. Butler, who is African American, said the Vatican is telling Catholics “to pay attention to the racism that is happening and the racism that is in your own church in America.

I would respect the Pope a little if he had said, “Don’t want an officer kneeling on you, don’t commit crimes.”

What does racism have to do with it? They didn’t let a white felon, stoned on fentanyl, walk and arrest the black perp. At most you have one cop that may have committed police brutality. The System didn’t do this. The System arrested and will try the cop. Hey Pope, let’s talk about a pedeophile priest and if that’s a bad actor or if it’s a characteristic of the entire Catholic Church, you infallible hypocrit.

I think the Pope needs to brush off his Catholic doorstep. When my parents divorced in 1970, my mom tried to go to church but found out she was ex-communicated. Excuse me but isn't that discrimination? She wanted to go to church but stopped going because of it.
I will not judge all Catholics because of a few. . .

Yes, #8, that's what I believe is happening. I fear for the Church under this twisted and evil leader. I'm very uncertain of what will be preached once NJ's governor ALLOWS us to return. We are blessed with a great man as our pastor. The financial hits have been severe there, with our annual Feast cancelled and no one in the pews. Will concessions be forced upon him just to stay afloat?

The pope is a liberal and de facto head of the "The Lavender Mafia" - a group of effeminate subversives; diabolical Marxists that have been undermining the faith since the 1960s.
As they rose to higher levels, they brought their minions along with them. Now most of the hierarchy is corrupt, including "Frances."

OP and others, the Pope's message DOES express sympathy for those affectd by the riots. How could you possibly have trusted AP to actually describe what the Pope said? Full Text of the Pope Francis’ Message on George Floyd
Dear brothers and sisters in the United States, I have witnessed with great concern the disturbing social unrest in your nation in these past days, following the tragic death of Mr George Floyd. My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life. At the same time, we have to recognize that “the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost.” Today I join the Church in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and in the entire United States, in praying for the repose of the soul of George Floyd and of all those others who have lost their lives as a result of the sin of racism. Let us pray for the consolation of their grieving families and friends and let us implore the national reconciliation and peace for which we yearn. May Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of America, intercede for all those who work for peace and justice in your land and throughout the world. May God bless all of you and your families.

#7, your mom wouldn't have been excommunicated for getting a divorce. Divorced Catholics may receive the Sacraments, as long as they don't remarry without an annulment. And even if she did remarry, she wouldn't have been excommunicated for that.

It’s as if the bowels of Hell have flung open their gates, and loosed every kind of demon there is to run wild and wreak havoc on the planet. You cannot take a breath without one of them being in your space. In fact, you’re lucky if there is only one. These are very dark times, my friends. We must stay strong and pray, constantly. There is a very powerful, recent letter written by Archbishop Viganò to President Trump. In it, he details the struggle now in the world between the forces of good and evil, and advises Trump to stay the course and root out this evil. He lays out everything you feel is going on, and in the black and white terms that used to be the hallmark of the Catholic Church. It is worth the read.

Again the Pope Francis shows his lack of amateur understanding of political and social events. America has made greater strides against racism than probably any country in the world where Catholics have been a major diving force, certainly more than Italy. Unfortunately America has also made great strides in abortion, hundreds of thousands of innocent unborn children legally killed out of convenience every year. Abortion does not in any way compare to even a hundred George Floyd incidences. The like-minded United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) are essentially a pariah to most Catholics. No Catholics I know pay attention to the Church leadership outside the celebration of mass and helping the needy. We smile and non out of respect but not agreement. As a lifetime Catholic I have come to the conclusion that the Church leadership has no better understanding of secular matters than its parishioners.

The faux Pope is not someone I will listen to any more, on any topic. I am not a Catholic, but I have respected the Popes, up until now. I attended Catholic school for a year, and came away with respect for nuns and the Church, in general, even though I was never convinced to switch from being a Protestant.
I don't respect this man, this fake Pope at all.

Whether its at work, in organizations, or at church, you start to tell people they are racists when they know they are not, that is a good way to get them to go find other jobs, organizations, or churches to be associated with.
Sadly, I have the strong feeling that this current "movement" is going to create far more racists than it is going to convert existing racists.

The Pope was rightly recognized by Martin Luther as an Anti-Christ. He hasn't changed since Luther's time. How can one be infallible and be wrong so many times? You get one chance...make a mistake and infallibility goes out the door! It's like modern day Prophets who are wrong time after time after time...but they keep at it. The Bible is clear that a true Prophet of God is never wrong about anything!

Pope Francis is a globalist and I think not a very happy man. I remember his face when President Trump and Mrs.Trump came to Rome to visit with him. Mrs. Trump, who is Catholic, brought her rosary beads for the Pope to bless and he stood there with a scowl on his face. No grace. He needs to pray more.

#21, thank you for the longer context of this quote. What Pope Francis actually said is not BLM boilerplate, and in fact admonishes the rioters/looters to stop their own destructive behavior.
I usually don't write to defend Pope Francis-- believe me, I'm no fan--- since he has served up so much gaggalicious flapdoodle in the past. However, re-read the original article and note that there are no direct quotes in it from Pope Francis. The ONLY direct quote is from "Anthea Butler, a presidential visiting fellow at Yale Divinity School," at the rest of it is sheer editorial comment passing for news.
I am sorry to see so much uncritical comment on the part of L-dotters. In religious studies, it's called eisegesis: reading into a text what you expected or wanted to see.
