A Kansas police chief who called out a local McDonald's -- after one of his officers claimed he was served a cup of coffee with a vulgar and insulting message attached -- said Monday the officer has resigned after fabricating the incident.
Herington Police Chief Brian Hornaday confirmed the unnamed officer made up the story about being given a coffee cup with "F-----g pig" written on it. The incident caused a stir on social media over the weekend and resulted in criticism of the fast-food giant.
"This was completely and solely fabricated by a Herington police officer who is no longer with our agency," Hornaday said during a Monday news conference.

2020 Democratic front-runner Joe Biden said miners need to find "jobs of the future" when talking about transitioning the economy away from fossil fuels.
"Anybody who can go down 3,000 feet in a mine can sure as hell learn to program as well," Biden said Monday during a campaign event in New Hampshire, according to the Washington Post's Dave Weigel. "Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program, for god's sake!" [Tweet]
On Sunday, Biden also said he wanted to throw fossil fuel executives in prison for damaging the environment.
"Put them in jail," he said. "I'm not joking about this." [Tweet]

Musician Linda Ronstadt drew parallels between the election of President Trump and the rise of the Nazis in Germany during an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN.
"You have read a lot about the Weimar Republic in Germany, and you sort of see great parallels between then and now," Cooper said in a preview clip released Monday.
"Well, great parallels," said Ronstadt. "There were a lot of chances. Hitler rose to power; there were a lot of chances to stop him, and they didn't speak out. And the industrial complex thought they could control him once they got him in office. And of course, he was not controllable."

Bum appétit! A drooling and pungent homeless man made double-dipping look like child’s play at a Midtown Whole Foods, grabbing from the hot food bar with his bare hands to stuff his bearded face—as employees just chuckled and said they were powerless to stop him. A Post photo editor had just plunked down $17 for a jerk chicken dinner at the store across from Bryant Park Sunday night when he spotted the grungy gourmand ignoring numerous “no sampling” signs to treat the bar like his personal feed-bag. President Trump and Barack Obama are locked in a dead heat as 2019’s most admired man, according to a new study that underscores the political divide in America.
It was Trump’s first time earning the distinction and his predecessor’s 12th.The Gallup poll, conducted each year since 1948, asked Americans to name which man and woman living anywhere in the world they admire most.Of the people surveyed between Dec. 2 and 15, 18 percent of respondents named both Obama and Trump. But the results were predictably split along party lines — with 41 percent of Democrats naming Obama and 45 percent of Republicans choosing Trump.

Kevin Gaines, 20, was captured at his home Thursday night after six weeks on the lam, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies released body cam video showing them watching Gaines’ live on Instagram, Fox 35 Orlando reported Saturday.
“In watching the video, Deputy Billy Leven could tell Gaines was inside the house,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “When he pointed his spotlight into the window, Deputy Leven could see the light show up in the live Instagram video shortly before it abruptly ended.”

New York is in a State of Decline.
Despite the nation’s longest economic expansion, the Empire State is actually losing population, an analysis of newly released US Census data released Monday reveals.
The total state population as of mid-2019 was 19,453,561 — a drop of 76,790, or 0.4 percent, from the previous year, according to the study by the Empire Center for Public Policy.
New York was one of only 10 states to suffer a total population decline in 2018-19 — its fourth consecutive annual decrease after five years of growth, and the largest population drop of any state.
Only West Virginia, Alaska and Illinois saw their populations fall at a faster percentage clip.

Biden was speaking at a rally in Milford on Sunday evening when a man entered the hall and began shouting at him.

Recent elections in Virginia have placed the Virginia government within arm's length of widespread gun confiscation. Around eighty-four counties and cities throughout the Commonwealth have pledged to ignore and resist these measures. Some Virginia elected officials have called for the National Guard to carry out such confiscation, which would imply the arrest and disarmament of local officials who get in the way. Governor Northam has stopped short of adopting such an idea, but he will not rule it out. Additional stories indicate that the government will disable internet and telephone access to affected areas during the crackdown.

When President Barack Obama shipped $1.7 billion in cash to Iran as part of his nuclear deal, he was funding terrorists. It was entirely predictable, for his partners in the deal are committed to the destruction of Israel first, and then of the United States, once they have the nuclear means to do so.
The Armageddon that would break out after the US defends itself is a feature, not a bug in this plan, for the return of the Twelfth Mahdi will accompany the climactic global conflagration, and bring about the end of history, with Islam triumphant.

Complaints emanate from Democrats about rigged, unfair Senate impeachment procedures. That doesn’t make much sense because the House Democrats rigged the whole thing on their side and it takes more chutzpah than most folks can muster to whinge about somebody else doing what they just did.
The Pubs don't have to rig anything. Simply operating by normal rules, they can find Trump not guilty and throw the whole thing out. But the Democrats did rig their half of this by not even letting Pubs ask questions, running it in the basement, leaking to the press and stretching “high crimes and misdemeanors” to mean anything they want it to mean.

Writing as an evangelical Christian who has taught ethics as a professor at the college and graduate school level for 42 years, and as the author of a major textbook on Christian ethics and another widely-used book on the relationship between politics and the Bible, I wish to respectfully differ with Mark Galli’s editorial, “Trump Should Be Removed from Office” (Christianity Today, December 19, 2019). As 2019 ends, the positive economic news regularly astounds financial experts. The stock market continues to reach new highs, while unemployment is at an historic low level. Consumer confidence is soaring, and Americans spent record amounts for the Christmas season. Under President Donald Trump, onerous regulations and taxes have been cut, and Americans have used the extra money to energize the economy. This has happened while inflation and interest rates are at low levels and wages are increasing.

A recent Bloomberg investigation showed the outlet violated that policy, and the liberal HuffPost is having none of it.

In the fantasy world inhabited by progressives, passing laws to restrict gun ownership and the carrying of firearms prevents violence. (snip) Worshippers in a suburb of Fort Worth, Texas heroically demonstrated the wisdom of our Founders and the superiority of Texas-style governance yesterday when an attempt was made to slaughter a large number of people at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement (can you imagine a pair of names more likely to elicit scorn from elitists?). Armed parishioners fought back and shot the gunman dead before he was able to slaughter more than two of them.

"The Ten Ships," which was written ten years ago, argued that Afghanistan had no intrinsic geographical value in the War on Terror. (Snip) Time has been kind to that assessment. Attempts to remake Afghanistan into something moderately Western through nation-building has wound up feeding the Taliban. "Families of almost 150 U.S. service members and civilians who were killed or wounded in terror attacks in Afghanistan sued a group of Western contractors involved in the nation's reconstruction for allegedly bribing the Taliban for protection for years."

Global warming protests, past the point of absurdity long ago, have become even more extreme thanks to a relatively new group from England. The founder’s background shows exactly why the organization has chosen to engage in the mindless behavior it’s become known for.
Though she has a doctorate in molecular biophysics, Extinction Rebellion architect Gail Bradbrook, called a “neo-pagan” by Britain’s Daily Mail, intentionally went down a path filled with folklore, superstition, tribal rites, and primitive hallucinogenics.
She’s a “lifelong activist,” reports CNN, who has “spent decades working on an array of social justice campaigns,” though few ever lead to real change. So, “in order to bring about real, radical change

You’ve heard about a “battle of the bands,” a contest among rock bands, country music bands, even high school marching bands. Long ago, a noisy competition between rival brass bands was held on a dreary December night, the prelude to an actual military battle the next day.
This is the story of the original Battle of the Bands.
There’s something particularly sad about being far from home during the holiday season, especially for soldiers in wartime. It made things worse for thousands of troops massed on the rolling hillsides of middle Tennessee at the end of 1862.

This week on the Sunday news shows: The New York Times executive editor said journalists need to do a better job of understanding religious people, presidential candidate Andrew Yang said he is open to the possibility of prosecuting President Donald Trump once he's out of office, and Washington Free Beacon founding editor Matthew Continetti discussed the growing distrust between voters and the media. New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet said it's "odd" to be called a member of the elite, but he acknowledged journalists must do more to understand religion.

If you thought you can’t top the stupidity we experienced in 2019, brace yourself for 2020 because it’s going to be a pronoun-fueled weather cult pinko freakshow. But it won’t be all amusing antics – the left hates us and its ugly mask is coming off, revealing the even uglier fascist visage lurking beneath. If you listen to them, and if you aren’t an insufferable goo goo wimp who refuses to hear them, you will know that they intend to silence you, even imprison you, and deprive you of the ability to participate in your own governance. So, if you want to live as a free man or woman –

On Sunday, NBC News political director Chuck Todd dedicated the final Meet the Press of 2019 to insisting President Trump had brought about a “post-truth society.” The same network that pushed the totally-bunk Steele dossier for years and tried to sink Justice Brett Kavanagh’s nomination with the ridiculous allegations from Julie Swetnick, wanted to lecture the public about falling for and spreading lies and misinformation. In the process, Todd lashed out at Christians for believing in “fairy tales.”“This Sunday, alternative facts. The assault on truth (…) This morning, Meet the Press takes an in-depth look at our post-truth society

Democrats, fast on the heels of new impeachment articles against President Donald Trump, have seemed to have settled on their election and reelection strategy for 2020 — impeach ‘til the cows come home.
It’s one click past witch hunt and one small, very small step before “get the somofableep!”
Republicans, ever the party of the genteel, have a different phrase for it; they call it “overplaying one’s hand.” And certainly, Democrats, digging as they are for more articles of impeachment, even as they hold tight to the existing articles of impeachment, even as they send dictates over to the Senate to command-control

The IRS placed a tax lien on Hunter Biden seeking $112,805 in unpaid taxes from 2015, according to records the Daily Caller News Foundation obtained.
The federal agency issued the previously unreported lien in November 2018 and it seeks unpaid taxes for a year in which Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, served on the boards of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings and the Chinese private equity firm BHR Partners.
“We have made a demand for payment of this liability, but it remains unpaid,” the IRS stated in the lien notice, which it filed with the Washington, D.C., Recorder of Deeds.

We are now looking at 2019 in our rear view mirrors, since it is time for those irritating “The Best/Worst of the year” lists. This past year was full of irritations, on many levels, from the shallow and superficial, to the rarest of rare political actions taken by the most irritating Congress in history. Let’s start with some of the candidates:Speaking of shallow and superficial, there is that previously little-known actor Jussie Smollett. His claim to fame was as a character in the FOX TV show “Empire.” Smollett, a gay black man, became a hero portraying, you guessed it: a gay black man.

Anti-Semitic attacks continue to shake our city and state. Last week, eight attacks — including four in just in 48 hours — sent a familiar shockwave rippling through the Jewish community. Then Saturday came the horrific stabbing in Monsey, New York. The poison of Jew-hatred is spreading.
Like many of you, I’m thinking, “Not this subject again.” How many columns can be devoted to it? I’ve read them. I’ve written them. It’s exhausting, and it’s dreary. Jews are being beaten up, anti-Semitism flows some years and ebbs in others. So what?
But it matters — gravely.

During a recent CNN interview, New Yorker editor David Remnick expressed consternation with the public’s refusal to accept at face value what the news media report about President Trump. Our intransigence, it seems, is a source of considerable frustration for the Fourth Estate: “We don’t understand why the evidence of things, why facts don’t penetrate so many of our brothers and sisters in the United States of America.” Remnick and the press corps for whom he presumes to speak evidently fail to comprehend that this patronizing attitude toward their “brothers and sisters” is precisely what created and still drives public mistrust of the media.

On Friday the Wall Street Journal ran an extra-long and remarkable editorial about the agenda of Elizabeth Warren (“Elizabeth Warren Has a Plan, Oh My“), which is so far beyond extravagant that “socialism” seems an inadequate adjective. She makes Bernie Sanders look cautious by comparison. As the Journal put it in the lede:
“[A]s we discovered after a tour of her 60-some policy papers, Ms. Warren is proposing a transformation of American government, business and life that exceeds what the socialist dreamers of a century ago imagined.”
Warren is not simply offering lots and lots of free stuff (Medicare for All, free college, higher Social Security benefits,

Well, they managed to do it and it didn’t take long at all. Just yesterday we were discussing how the city of Baltimore, Maryland had tied the 21st-century record number of murders at 342 on Thursday. And there were still several days to go until the end of the year. On Friday night another man was shot multiple times and at some point early Saturday morning he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. That was number 343, a higher death toll than any seen in the city since the early 1990s. (Baltimore Sun) Baltimore police recorded the 343rd homicide of the year Saturday with the fatal shooting

A Thai Navy Seal who was part of the dramatic three-day rescue of a youth soccer team from a flooded cave in Thailand in 2018 has died of a blood infection he contracted during the daring operation, officials said.
The Royal Thai Navy said Friday on Facebook that Petty Officer 1st Class Bayroot Pakbara was receiving treatment but his condition worsened after the infection spread into his blood. Officials did not disclose what specific infection Pakbara suffered from, or how he contracted it.
Pakbara, who was referred to as a "hero" by the Navy, will posthumously be promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

This short video is suddenly everywhere. It comes from a livestream of the service at the church near Fort Worth where someone opened fire on parishioners with what looks like a shotgun. He was immediately shot by two legally armed persons, one of whom reportedly was a security guard. It appears that altogether, there were six people who immediately pulled guns in response to the shooter. [Video]
In recent months, there have been a number of anti-Semitic attacks, including attacks on synagogues. There have been a number of attacks on churches as well. Anti-gun pieties do nothing to protect innocent people when lunatics or ideologically-motivated murderers strike.

For several years now the climatistas have liked to point out that the Pentagon—the military industrial complex!—is down with climate alarmism, issuing a series of reports saying that climate change might be a serious security risk in the future. I always enjoy this celebration, because it is the first time I can remember that the left has embraced with complete credulity something coming out of the Pentagon, which they otherwise wish to gut if not abolish. (By how much do Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders want to cut the defense budget?) Equally amusing is the lack of any perception that Pentagon bureaucrats, like all bureaucrats,
