We are now looking at 2019 in our rear view mirrors, since it is time for those irritating “The Best/Worst of the year” lists. This past year was full of irritations, on many levels, from the shallow and superficial, to the rarest of rare political actions taken by the most irritating Congress in history. Let’s start with some of the candidates:Speaking of shallow and superficial, there is that previously little-known actor Jussie Smollett. His claim to fame was as a character in the FOX TV show “Empire.” Smollett, a gay black man, became a hero portraying, you guessed it: a gay black man.

Dittos to all of the above PLUS: Designers that decided "leggings" (skintight spandex) should be used as stand-alone pants paired with a waist-length top. Have the wearers taken a really good look from the back and side in a full-length mirror? Do they really think they look pretty? Do they care that they actually look desperate and pathetic? I remember when "ski pants" came out (in the 80s?), and it was suggested that no one over a size 6 or 8 should wear them. Ski pants were tame compared to this form-fitting silliness that subjects the general public to spectacles best left in a downscale tavern. Recently one of the "grandmothers" at grandparents' day at a large upscale Christian school in Dallas was wearing these spandex pants with a short top. (At another event at the same school, one grandmother had a full chest tattoo worn with a sundress. But that's another topic.)

Agree with all of the above! This L.dotter community is a hoot. But I didn't see anyone single out for mention Elizabeth "Princess Flailing Arms" Warren. However, IMO the piece of cake has to go to the mayor of Bend Over, Indiana who cannot be criticized due to having a husband he can't stop kissing in public. Butt-judge is the winner simply because he is not just irritating but effectively evil by wrapping himself in misquotes and revisionist statements from the Bible. The question I always ask myself about him is: "If Dante was still alive and re-writing his Inferno, exactly which circle of Hell would he stick sneaky Pete in?" Would he go into the Second Circle reserved for Lust --- or the Sixth Circle of Heretics for sinners who mislead people away from the true God source. The deeper down the better, I'd guess!

2020 Democratic front-runner Joe Biden said miners need to find "jobs of the future" when talking about transitioning the economy away from fossil fuels. "Anybody who can go down 3,000 feet in a mine can sure as hell learn to program as well," Biden said Monday during a campaign event in New Hampshire, according to the Washington Post's Dave Weigel. "Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program, for god's sake!" [Tweet] On Sunday, Biden also said he wanted to throw fossil fuel executives in prison for damaging the environment. "Put them in jail," he said. "I'm not joking about this." [Tweet]

Recent elections in Virginia have placed the Virginia government within arm's length of widespread gun confiscation. Around eighty-four counties and cities throughout the Commonwealth have pledged to ignore and resist these measures. Some Virginia elected officials have called for the National Guard to carry out such confiscation, which would imply the arrest and disarmament of local officials who get in the way. Governor Northam has stopped short of adopting such an idea, but he will not rule it out. Additional stories indicate that the government will disable internet and telephone access to affected areas during the crackdown.

On December 29, Breitbart News reported that a gunman at West Freeway Church of Christ opened fire, only to be shot dead by an armed parishioner. Jack Wilson, the good guy with a gun, was one of many parishioners who drew their guns to fight back when the heinous attack began. On December 31, Elivia Diaz, editorial columnist for the Republic and AZcentral.com reacted to the quick takedown of the gunman by claiming that Wilson’s defensive gun use “has turned into a PR tool by gun advocates.”

On Sunday, NBC News political director Chuck Todd dedicated the final Meet the Press of 2019 to insisting President Trump had brought about a “post-truth society.” The same network that pushed the totally-bunk Steele dossier for years and tried to sink Justice Brett Kavanagh’s nomination with the ridiculous allegations from Julie Swetnick, wanted to lecture the public about falling for and spreading lies and misinformation. In the process, Todd lashed out at Christians for believing in “fairy tales.”“This Sunday, alternative facts. The assault on truth (…) This morning, Meet the Press takes an in-depth look at our post-truth society

Nothing is ever as simple as good guy versus bad guy. Reality exists mostly in varying shades of gray. But there is no question Jack Wilson acted heroically as a church volunteer security guard when he killed a killer in the sanctuary of the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, on Sunday. Wilson, a deeply experienced firearms instructor, was legally carrying and took down a gunman with a single shot. Are we relegated to finding solace in the fact that only three people died inside of a church in the latest tragedy, and must we seek comfort
