One of the hottest trends in the restaurant world right now is delivery — and Minneapolis just gave people one more reason to stay home and place their food orders online: The city has placed a ban on the construction of new drive-thru windows. Be it restaurant or coffee shop, pharmacy or bank, the Minneapolis City Council approved the new rule this past Thursday, leaving current drive-thrus untouched (as well as businesses that are currently waiting for approval), but preventing the construction of any new ones within the city. "We're not closing any of the current drive-thrus," Council Vice President Andrea

Follow the money. Who benefits from this? Is there a new Association of Drive Through Restaurants that formed a PAC and is giving $$ to the pols who voted for this?

I bet the restaurants will turn to numbered parking spaces. Customers use an app on their phones to order and alert the restaurant that they are sitting in parking space x. Then a staff member will deliver the order to the parking space. In the end, I don't see how this changes traffic for the better. If anything, cars may be backed up waiting for spaces for their occupants to place their orders. Think of a burger joint during the noon rush! Doesn't sound pretty to me.

While this is an inconvenience to all, think of what it does to those who are confined to a wheel chair but have the ability to drive. They can pick up their medicines at the Pharmacy, cash at the bank's ATM drive thru and then lunch at McDonalds without having the hassle of leaving their vehicles.

Although, if your drive through window faces Mecca, they will make an exception.

Liberals just love to enact laws to force the unwashed to ''behave responsibly'' even though the affect of the unintended consequences will be far worse than the supposed catastrophe they were saving us from in the first place. Of course, the way to solve the new problem is to take a away more freedom and tax dollars from the masses.

When we don't pay attention, the virtuous little Church Lady types pass laws like this.
Will be interesting to see what happens to her in the next election.

However, with a nod to cultural sensitivity, drive-bys will be encouraged.

This may be aimed at Chick-fil-A. On Saturday I was driving past one in Norfolk, VA (heavily military area) and the line at the drive-thru was backed up around the building, down the side road and onto the main road. The main road was four lanes wide so drivers were able to get around the line and continue on down the road. All I thought as I drove by was, “Good for you, Chick-fil-A”!

Unless the drive-thrus are causing traffic problems back out on the street, the city has no business with this type of regulation. Somehow, somewhere, a Muslim complained.

Personally I dislike drive-thrus. Generally filled with lazy people too lazy to park and walk inside. Have seen many lines around the building while no one's inside. No telling how much gas is burned by these.

I think #13 zeroed in on the truth.
There are four Chick-fil-A stores in all of the Twin Cities metro. Actually in the whole state.
Two at the airport, one in the U of M student union, and one in a suburban shopping area in Bloomington.
This is passive-aggressive liberal power politics on display, Minnesota style.

Lisa Bender is one of many liberal proponents of restricting car use in the Twin Cities. Most recently she was in the news for being a loud vocal critic of city residents who don't shovel the snow off their sidewalks. Such people are selfish and uncaring of others like the elderly and pregnant women who must walk through the snow. When a reporter checked in on the council members and their compliance with the sidewalk snow removal ordinance.....there was only one errant homeowner among them: Lisa Bender, who was the recipient of seven complaints and of whom the city hence shoveled her sidewalk and charged her $149. Her first response was that she was a working mom with a couple of little kids and couldn't always promptly shovel her sidewalk. But then when this story got publicized, she quickly changed her tune to say that she was being discriminated against because she is a woman. That's Lisa Bender.....the one behind this drive-through ban. Just another lib on the Mpls City Clowncil. The St. Paul City Clowncil is just as bad.

According to other sources, the reason for this is to reduce carbon emissions by 2040. Global warming, you know.
Gas stations are included in the list. Sorry, linking the articles is beyond my capabilities at this time.
