A lesbian minister in Nantucket, Massachusetts, is canceling her church’s annual Fourth of July celebrations in an act of political protest apparently against the country’s — as well as her own congregation’s — “whiteness.”
Rev. Erin Splaine announced to her community Thursday that the Second Congregational Meeting House Society, Unitarian Universalist church would be canceling its customary July 4th celebrations, which include a public reading of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. "We came to this decision in large measure because of the recent gutting of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court,” Splaine wrote in a letter to the Nantucket Current. She was referring to

I remember during the VietNam war when people could send away for a minister's license and ordination by mail as a draft dodge.
There was a test. Q: Do you believe in Universal Life? A: Yes. Congrats, pastor.

LGBTQ+ as a religion. Anything can be turned into a religion. There is religion and there is God. Don't confuse them.

I loved Nantucket. But that was many years ago. But I can see the leftist, woke swine after inhabiting
Martha's Vinyard have now come to "infest" Nantucket. When the beaches on that island began having
problems with the behavior of beach goers and debris started washing up from failing windmills I knew my
love affair was over. God, tell me a place they haven't ruined....

My family always considered the Unitarian Church "the ethical debating society" pretending to be a church.

No apologies necessary, #3. You beat me to it too. :-)
On a slightly more serious note, it seems like the concept of privacy has fallen by the wayside somewhere. People didn't used to feel compelled to define themselves publicly and stridently on the basis of the specific sex organs and acts they prefer. Now, it's commonly viewed as oppression to express total disinterest in the sex lives of others.
Now, as a general rule, I'm in favor of lesbianism because it is a sanitary and, theoretically, largely private way for otherwise unappealing people to gratify one another in the absence of any risk of inadvertent reproduction. This lady fits that bill.
However, I'm also generally opposed to people who hate their country using pulpits as a platform to decry it. What this woman believes is both historically ignorant and religiously irrelevant. There is immeasurably more freedom, more liberty, and--in the case of the garden variety lesbian that she appears to be--more sexual license in the world as a result of America.
If America didn't exist, voting would not be the world's preferred method of allocating political power on the basis of the consent of the governed. The right of people such as she to speak their small minds in public settings would be dramatically curtailed. Lesbians would be stoned to death in more public squares. Every Jew now alive would likely be dead. And there wouldn't be a free black man or woman anywhere on the face of the Earth.
That we passed through many trials of arms and conscience, and some errors, on our way to securing our freedom and sharing it with all those who live within our borders is a testament to this country, not an indictment.
So, on Independence Day, is it asking too much to muster up two cheers for the United States of America? For some of the beneficiaries of all of the blood shed by better men, apparently it is.
This woman has no idea how lucky she is to be an American.

Just another illiterate democrat spewing lies. What the SCOTUS did has nothing to do with casting a vote. Now if this moron is worried about redistricting, one should remind her that the New England states do not have one republican representative. Get that dummy, not one in all those states, that's 9 states, like in NINE of them. Chew on that for a while.

Love Nantucket, but it is infested with liberals. The working class are super nice people, but the elites are leftist snobs and idiots. Think John Kerry.
