A lesbian minister in Nantucket, Massachusetts, is canceling her church’s annual Fourth of July celebrations in an act of political protest apparently against the country’s — as well as her own congregation’s — “whiteness.” Rev. Erin Splaine announced to her community Thursday that the Second Congregational Meeting House Society, Unitarian Universalist church would be canceling its customary July 4th celebrations, which include a public reading of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. "We came to this decision in large measure because of the recent gutting of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court,” Splaine wrote in a letter to the Nantucket Current. She was referring to

No apologies necessary, #3. You beat me to it too. :-) On a slightly more serious note, it seems like the concept of privacy has fallen by the wayside somewhere. People didn't used to feel compelled to define themselves publicly and stridently on the basis of the specific sex organs and acts they prefer. Now, it's commonly viewed as oppression to express total disinterest in the sex lives of others. Now, as a general rule, I'm in favor of lesbianism because it is a sanitary and, theoretically, largely private way for otherwise unappealing people to gratify one another in the absence of any risk of inadvertent reproduction. This lady fits that bill. However, I'm also generally opposed to people who hate their country using pulpits as a platform to decry it. What this woman believes is both historically ignorant and religiously irrelevant. There is immeasurably more freedom, more liberty, and--in the case of the garden variety lesbian that she appears to be--more sexual license in the world as a result of America. If America didn't exist, voting would not be the world's preferred method of allocating political power on the basis of the consent of the governed. The right of people such as she to speak their small minds in public settings would be dramatically curtailed. Lesbians would be stoned to death in more public squares. Every Jew now alive would likely be dead. And there wouldn't be a free black man or woman anywhere on the face of the Earth. That we passed through many trials of arms and conscience, and some errors, on our way to securing our freedom and sharing it with all those who live within our borders is a testament to this country, not an indictment. So, on Independence Day, is it asking too much to muster up two cheers for the United States of America? For some of the beneficiaries of all of the blood shed by better men, apparently it is. This woman has no idea how lucky she is to be an American.

Re #13: Everyone except the Lord Himself is a sinner in need of redemption. The problem with Erin Splaine (nice name!) is not that she's a sinner. It's that she is an unrepentant public sinner, exactly the wrong type of person to be in position of religious authority. I wouldn't accuse her of being a hypocrite; I would say that she doesn't belong in any Christian pulpit, although Unitarian Universalist would fit.

Americans came to a breaking point during the Biden administration — specifically, in the summer of 2023, when the Biden administration went all in on “pride” month and Americans were horrified to see a topless transgender activist at the White House pride event, while corporate queering ran amok. Cops on both sides of the US-Mexico border are investigating a sprawling underground passage uncovered in the Tijuana area that is believed to extend toward the US. The tunnel was found Saturday in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood during a raid carried out by Mexican federal authorities with support from the Mexican Navy, according to Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office. Investigators said the hidden passage stretches roughly 869 feet and sits about 21 feet below ground, making it one of the more substantial cross-border tunnel discoveries in recent years. The underground route was uncovered after authorities executed a search warrant at a property in eastern Tijuana.
